    No, it doesn’t matter. One is an AMD term, the other Intel so don’t worry about that. As long as it’s enabled is all the matters. Maybe try taking your ram out and reseating it.

    If your RAM has an XMP profile, you should enable or use it. XMP is a standard introduced by Intel, while EXPO was developed by AMD with the release of DDR5. Both standards work on AMD platforms; however, EXPO RAM is "optimized" for AMD processors (according to marketing). It’s best to use the XMP profile built into the RAM, which you can usually select in the BIOS.

    Here is an example of my Gigabyte BIOS:
    EasyMode (just on the left of the screen when going into BIOS):
    upload_2024-11-14_23-29-46.jpeg
    There is only "profile1" or "disabled". Same should apply for your RAM.

    Same option in the Advanced mode "Tweaker" Menu on Gigaybte:
    upload_2024-11-14_23-30-26.png

    There is a similar option with your MSI Boards BIOS.

    My advice is to reset the bios and take some dive into the whole bios stuff... It sounds that you have not very much knowledge about how it works and what it does. No hate but more supportive :) No problem its not that difficult but take some time to watch a tutorial on YT. And simple rule... If you have no clue dont touch it or search before you do something. It can hurt the pc and results in (big) issues. On the other hand it can improve the pc in a big step if you have the right buttons to touch. Modern Motherboards are way to "stock status" and i think that its not matching the modern pc specs now days. For example a system like XMP...
    Its not hurts in any form but they did not activate it when you get it out of the box.... Why?! If you dont like it turn it off is my idea instead the other way around that people with less Knowledge get stuck with a less performing pc and it takes the risk of braking other stuff

    No I absolutely agree! I didn’t know what XMP was until a few years ago and kicked myself for not knowing as my video editing was just so slow… after enabling XMP, everything suddenly ran smoothly in adobe premiere. I’m gonna deep dive tonight on optimizing this board for the specs I have. Sometimes the issue is finding others with the same exact configuration as yours.

    Finished the memory test! No errors. Part of me kinda hoped there would be error(s) as that could be a key reason for the memory related crashes but both my CPU and RAM are working as intended. I truly don’t know what to do from here. I’m gonna give DX12 another shot and see how it fairs. I did order a set of new ram that IS listed as compatible for my motherboard in terms of speed and timings (weird that my current set isn’t listed as compatible even-though my PC is generally stable).

    This was part of my initial diagnosing process a month or so back when the crashing was at its maximum after the TSW5 release, so a lot of these checks I've competed, but I ran them again and no errors. It's so strange... Gonna install the new RAM set when it arrives later today, run a memory test for them, then mess around in-game and see what occurs. I'll be sure to report back. Appreciate you all for your help with this!

    I should clarify, I made this post before realizing that after reinstalling my GPU, I plugged it into the wrong PCI port on my MoBo. Completely my fault but that’s what I get for doing it after working a 12 hour day and being dead tired. Once I realized the mistake and corrected it, my performance is back where it should be. I get 30-40+ FPS at Los Angeles now no problem. Using the Ultra preset.

    I’ve learned a lot of these issues experienced come down to your hardware. You can have a 4090 but if you have a weaker CPU, the GPU won’t work to its full potential because it’s slowed by the slow CPU speeds. Again, it’s just all about your hardware. I’m happy to say mine runs TSW5 almost flawlessly.

    DX12 really changes everything. I really don’t understand why dovetail won’t invest time in optimizing the game to run this as standard.

    • Map Screen Fix: No more frame drops when zooming in on the map. Used to be a huge annoyance!

    • Frankfurt-Fulda Boost: Coming into Frankfurt feels way smoother now. FPS only dips to 45-50 instead of the old 20-25, and in other spots, it stays around 80-110 FPS (was 40-60 before).

    • Less Micro Stuttering: Hardly any micro stutters on the routes I’ve tried so far (mainly Frankfurt-Fulda and MBTA Commuter).

    • Faster Loading: Loading into the game and services/scenarios feels almost twice as fast.

    • MBTA Commuter Route Performance: Pretty consistent 100-140 FPS. No special tweaks yet for this route’s “god mode,” so it’s a nice boost compared to previous dips to 60 FPS with DX11.

    I’ve got the Jet Wash tweaks from the Graphics Enhancement Manual, plus a few extras I was recommended:

    r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=0
    r.Streaming.PoolSize=7000
    r.Streaming.MaxTempMemoryAllowed=3000
    r.RenderTargetPoolMin=1200
    r.Streaming.FramesForFullUpdate=2
    r.Streaming.Boost=2
    r.GTSyncType=1
    r.OneFrameThreadLag=1
    s.ForceGCAfterLevelStreamedOut=0
    s.ContinuouslyIncrementalGCWhileLevelsPendingPurge=0
    s.LevelStreamingComponentsUnregistrationGranularity=10
    s.LevelStreamingComponentsRegistrationGranularity=30
    r.Streaming.NumStaticComponentsProcessedPerFrame=200
    gc.TimeBetweenPurgingPendingKillObjects=200

    These tweaks have made a huge difference—it’s pretty clear there was a CPU bottleneck going on before. Hoping I don’t run into any crashes, but so far, so good. Planning to give that one WCML service a go since it always crashed at a very specific point before—fingers crossed i can get through that.

    It’s odd though, I was fine with DX12 for a while, but when TSW5 dropped, the crashing issues started happening. It did happen around the time I started using lossless scaling, but even after stopping and removing it, crashes were still happening occasionally. :/

    If it means anything at all I’ve had more crashes with TSW5 than I’ve ever had before, probably with all other variants combined. Some of them were undoubtedly down to mods (the auto-announcement was certainly the cause of many of them), but the majority were down to the game. I have no proof but given how many other issues they’ve caused I suspect that looking at add-on manager and/or DRM probably won’t send you far wrong when looking for the culprit.

    my fps at Frankfurt goes from 43fps up to around 60fps depending on where you look at or what location you are at
    i am also using these steam launch commands
    -DX12 -high -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -NoVerifyGC -threads 16
    the -high probably does do nothing at all just test them out or google for it

    SGTDRE received a DTG support reply that not only said DX12 wasn't supported but explicitely stated to not use it, it "will cause crashes". (I'm done with TSW anyway :) )

    Joke, joke, I have been set at dx12 since early TSW4 and have not experienced any crashes related to using it. They just use this 'canned' response concerning dx12.

    Absolutely, I'll definitely look into using an add-on manager.

    I just completed the problematic WCML service in Journey Mode (1H75: London Euston - Manchester Piccadilly), which always used to crash after exiting London Euston and passing through the tunnel in the 50-55mph zone. This time, there was no crash at all. I'm running the same mods as before, except for lossless scaling, and everything ran flawlessly with zero issues. The only thing I've changed recently was a BIOS update before switching back to DX11. I'm not sure if that fixed it, as it was a minor update, but I already had the 2nd most recent bios update to that. I'm planning to install the new RAM soon to see if it further improves performance. For now, I'll just wait and see how things go.

    I'm using all of the above as well except for "-NoVerifyGC". What exactly does this do?

    Dovetail is allergic to modernizing and optimizing this game. It's worlds too far from what it COULD actually be and that's so depressing to think about. Firstly, with sticking to DX11 and also still continuing to make content for Gen 8 which at this point should've been dropped years ago. A Memory intensive game with memory intensive timetables, routes, and locos, but yes let's still make content to players who's systems still have 8GB of ram in 2024...

    I can run TSC scenarios with more than 40 active services within an hour without memory issues. From a technical standpoint, TSW is the worst train simulation game on the market - because DTG don't know how to code - they never knew. They are still basically an Addon producer only. A timetable is not memory intensive, unless you're totally overengineering everything. But I've already made my point. The whole game is just a hassle not worth my time, and not enough variety to choose from.

    No matter how hard JetWash tries, he cannot overcome the issues with the graphics alone. From too bright to too dark. I'm finding everything I need in TSC, a platform without any limits, with AP sky and natural lighting, no illegible displays in tunnels, better sounds and fantastic freeware routes. And even if a signal or tree is misplaced, you can fix that on the fly while driving in TSC.

    That's how my eyes perceive the world. You can look at the landscape while driving, it's nice and smooth. No distant paper trees or settlements on concrete platforms plonked onto an ugly shiny reflective hill. I really can't stand TSW any more, it makes me feel bad, so that's it from me here. Timetables are boring and they don't even work due to the rubbish data tracks.

    If you still haven't understood what to expect from DTG, then I'm sorry for you. This is not meant as bashing, I hope you enjoy what you paid for (I wish I could get my money back), but I went on an asset collecting spree last weekend which opened up a plethora of new routes for me, I am literally drowning in content, and TSC manages to put a smile on my face while playing and enjoying the work of freeware route creators, who made all their stuff with love, passion and a lot of time on a good and creator friendly platform. I've discovered stock I never knew existed. Unlimited supply.

    This just arrived. Can you imagine this? That originally was the straight line from Liverpool to Manchester. See what people made out of this. And for starters, the route ships with 103 scenarios. Btw, no invisible walls or inaccessible tracks ;)

    The colors and lighting in your TSC screenshots are amazingly realistic.
    But don't forget that DTG works with UE4, which looks like complete LOVE out of the box. To achieve good lighting and realistic colors you need a person, which is not a fact that exists. Because in my memory all games on UE4 looks so UNREAListic. It seems like no one can make this piece of junk look realistic.
    Instead of moving towards a realistic picture, Epic went down the path of "let's overload the picture with everything we can so that no one will understand this mess - then we call it technological". Shadows eats light, sunlight eats colors, every material is reflecting sunlight, 1080p render look like 360p upscaled to FHD, and overall it look like you are playing with HDR enabled on display that does not support HDR - that's UE4 from the box.

    I saw an interesting documentary on YT why game graphics look worse now than they did in 2010 which is considered as the peak, just like audio and HiFi systems from the late 70s are the crème de la crème, and you'll pay a fortune for vintage stuff of that era. I mean just listen to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and what Alan Parsons made of the recordings in his studio. Perfection. Then the Loudness and Compression war in the 2000s which sounded terrible. I do like Oasis, but the production of their first albums is horrible and shows clipping. You cannot run the sound through an equalizer because all dynamics are gone due to heavy brickwall compression.

    Nowadays, it's all about silly post processing.

    Just a heads up, Lossless Scaling has been updated to properly support 24H2 for those who were having issues with it before.

    Digital killed audio. Not because the medium is inherently bad, but because of what has been done with it by hamhanded producers.

    To me the high point of audio recording was the mid-70s, the peak of analog technology. Then came digital- all originally recorded on first-gen Studer desks with primitive A/D converters, which made everything sound "tinny" or "harsh" or "thin." In effect, the sound was pixelated. Back then the vinylheads blamed the sound on the CD format, but the medium was never the problem, it was recording tech. Move forward a few years: the desks got much, MUCH better (there are some Superaudio CDs to die for), but what also turned up was ProTools and its ilk: the age of digital processing was upon us, and producers simply couldn't resist the temptation to LOVE with the studio sound and make synthetic Frankentracks of it, whether brutal compression, or autotune, or "regularized" drums: lifeless roborecords. Give me Dark Side or Quadrophenia any day.

    Before going too off topic, the huge advantage of digital audio is preservation and losless reproducibility. Each analog storage medium suffers from degradation, the needle on vinyl will remove particles from the material, magnetic tapes degrade over time. Zeroes and Ones can be stored much simpler than a 1:1 analog air pressure graph.

    I am still having issues with 24H2 and Lossless Scaling, DXGI capture no longer works and while WGC works for a bit it's choppy and inevitably freezes. I haven't tried much to rectify, I have a VRR display so all my settings are set towards VRR being used in other games, so if I can be bothered I might attempt to try turning VRR off and see if I get better results but I'm tempted to just run TSW5 native res and take the FPS hit. It's a shame because the latest LS update has added a resolution scale slider to generate frames at a lower res and then serve them up at your screens resolution (much like DLSS does), which would have no doubt been a pretty good performance uplift. If anyone has some relatively painless fixes I'll happily try them, but I'm too lazy to jump through many hoops.

    (EDIT) The Lossless Scaling update works perfectly fine using WGC in other games. Just for a change it's TSW that spits it's dummy out.
    (EDIT 2) Why did I start testing things out, I should have left it to you guys who are better qualified. I got it to work much better, I turned off HDR support, don't know why I had it on in the first place seen as TSW doesn't support HDR. And the FPS jumped right up, it seems to work flawlessly in most locations, except Preston, for some reason even walking round in free roam, it freezes. I went to Euston to compare as that seems to be fairly heavy and with LS on I get 120fps. No idea what's going on at Preston.

    The memory issues in TSW are down to Gen8 consoles & the fact that they are still supported is farcical. Hopefully Just Trains not sopping to it in WCMLOS is the beginning of the end.

    I literally got home from work a couple of hours ago, I’ve only at home for 1 day in the last 9. I’ll get on to it as soon as I’m in a fit state to do so.

    JLD95 and JetWash, I had posted earlier in the thread that Boston Providence setting work find since it is the same area. Just copy and paste them over into the MBTA ini location in GodMode.

    I remember someone (sorry, I don't remember the nickname) was looking for a way to get rid of the FPS drops in the morning and evening(mostly in places with a lot of trees), when the game starts using super-saturated (cascading?) shadows.
    Have you managed to find a way to reduce the intensity of the FPS drops?

    I don’t know for sure, and am away working for 5 days now so can’t look, but I suspect it is the tweaks I’ve made to stop flickering on TAA maybe not playing well with FXAA. TAA is the only logical AA solution (anything else looks like trash) so that is the one the mod is designed to work with.

    Added these into the base area in the godmode dynamic.ini as well and what a difference. So much smoother, all the little micro stutters are gone. Thanks a lot!

    With 24h2, and latest lossless scaling and the newest Nvidia drivers. Oh and the ultra version of this graphics enhancement.
    I'm happy the performance so far. Smooth for the most part but I'm keeping my fingers crossed seeing only one train was in the scenario.
    All the computer specifics is shown in discription

    Hi,
    I applied these additional settings with ultra Jetwash tweaks, I was wondering if we have 64GB of RAM we can still increase the poolside or another buffer ?

    FWIW that relates to your VRAM, not system RAM.

    I’m testing using some of these settings in my own main ini again as there seems to be some potential benefit in TSW5. It’s hard to quantify though and could just be placebo.

    I added the setting noted by @Train Sim Society to the ini file in God Mode for WCML and I think I have noted some improvement. I will probably now put them into a few of my other routes to see what improvement. if any. I get.

    I would suggest adding it to the main engine ini then you can add and remove it once and with ease.

    JetWash, ok strange, after adding those lines into the main engine,ini the reverser on my Rail Driver now fully works again. Ever since TSW5 came out and I started using Cobraone's interface, I have been unable to get reverse, now I can. Tried a number of random routes and locos.

    Again, there's nothing at all inherently wrong with digital as a medium. In theory, you can sample at rates higher than the grain density of studio tape! And I completely agree with its permanence and lossless reproducibility.

    If only we could impress upon producers that processing does NOT "improve" the recording! Set up your mikes correctly and send it straight to mastering, dude.

    As Stubbs says, you either need VSYNC turned on through Nvidia control panel or the game itself. Leave the setting in LS set to default.

    It's a really good mod, but unfortunately it doesn't work properly on my PC...

    For example, in WCML I have constant FPS drops and crashes in the Wembley and Watford Junction areas, where it starts to drop to 10 FPS for a long time, and only after these areas does it improve, but even then it continues to fluctuate a lot.

    I used the "Medium" setting and with Lossless Scaling, which helps to freeze the screen several times.

    I had to disable these mods, and I noticed that now I run most routes at a constant 60 FPS, only in the densest areas does it drop to 30 FPS.

    First san bernadino run since lossless, nvidia drivers and 24h2 got updated. Oh and the patch today. Was able to complete the run even thogh I did get stutters. But the game freeze to the point of having the do a restart like previously. I suspect my power-supply could be an issue as well

    That’s virtually impossible I’m afraid with the medium preset. If you’re seeing fps drops like that then you have something else going on and/or your machine isn’t strong enough to run the game the way you have it set up. Medium is the gentlest of nods towards more graphical fidelity but is only very marginally different to the base game. It goes without saying that comparisons are meaningless unless you’re comparing the exact same circumstances, be that service, time of day, date, weather etc.

    Also, genuine question, if Medium was taxing your machine (which, unless you’re playing on an absolute potato I highly doubt) why would you simply remove the mod rather than use Low? I’ve said repeatedly that ‘low’ only changes the lighting elements so will have zero impact on performance beyond the default game. There are no performance related changes in the low preset.

    Lossless Scaling doesn’t freeze the screen either, you will likely have something running in the background (Discord is a repeat offender) that causes this behaviour as LS runs with the game in windowed mode. When a background application does something it’s effectively becoming the focus which causes LS to appear to have frozen. Close all background apps down (only things that have been open on your taskbar, no need to close things that are running minimized) and it will work as advertised.

    I was only able to watch a bit of the video but from what I saw your GPU has a load of headroom which suggests the cause is nothing to do with this mod or how hard you’re pushing your machine graphically. You’re definitely running DX12 right? I can’t tell from the video as there’s an fps counter over it.

    I’ve just skimmed through the vid and I’m guessing the issue is the fps drops towards the end of the route. That looks like tile loading to me, what kind of disk do you run the game on?

    Just wanted to pop in and share some updates on my setup that have made a big difference in TSW5 and other Unreal Engine games. I recently updated my BIOS on my ASUS motherboard and noticed a new setting called Turbo Game Mode. I enabled it out of curiosity, and it’s really helped the stability for most of my games (specifically unreal engine titles).

    This setting basically disables one of the CPU’s chiplets and turns off SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading), focusing on single-threaded performance for games that don’t really benefit from a ton of cores. It’s supposed to reduce latency and boost efficiency, and honestly, even though I didn't expect this to fare well with TSW5, the impacts I've seen have all been positive.

    In TSW5, the minor micro-hitches I was still getting have almost completely disappeared. Everything feels smoother overall. I also play Fortnite, and before enabling this, I was getting crashes every 30 minutes despite solid FPS on ultra settings with DX12. Since I turned it on, I haven't had a single crash. While monitoring my CPU usage in the task manager, I noticed that before each crash, my CPU usage would jump to 100%, and there was a "kernel" related error in Windows Event Viewer for the crash. From my memory, every single one of my TSW crashes all mentioned Kernel32 which is memory/CPU related.

    I really think there’s something about Unreal Engine games that doesn't sit right with high core/thread count CPUs like mine (Ryzen 9 7950X3D). Limiting the game to fewer, faster cores seems to fix a lot of the instability in terms of crashing. Frame rate boots are negligible, but the crashes were more important for my specific case.

    If you have an ASUS motherboard, I’d definitely recommend checking your BIOS for this setting after updating. Other brands, like Gigabyte, have something similar called “X3D Turbo Mode,” so it might be worth looking into if you’re using a different board.
    Hopefully, this helps anyone with a similar setup. Keep in mind that this setting isn't ideal for productivity work like video editing, but I'm curious if any of you have tried it and if there have been positive impacts with stability.
