Hi all, Not fired up my TSW4 for a good while now as got a bit disappointed with the performance of it on my PC but as wondering is it worth upgrading to TSW5? Watched a bit of the stream of the JT route that is due soon and it did look good which is no surprise really as the Blackpool route is a great. Does TSW5 run any better or is it just the same as TSW4? I just find with TSW4 the game stutters and scenery/trees etc popping in a bit of an immersion breaker. As I’m only interested in UK routes then I guess just the standard edition will suffice. My PC is pretty decent, 7800x3d, x670e MB, 32gb ram and 4070Ti super GPU but have always been a bit disappointed on how TSW4 has run on my PC so I’m a bit sceptical to upgrade to TSW5 if it’s no different. I assume there’s Mods that can be added to make it look better too but I’m not clued up on those or what to look for. thanks in advance
I'm on Xbox PC but I'd say an upgrade is worth it. TSW4 isn't going to receive any more updates, and if it did they'd be out already. You don't need to purchase any of the editions to play. There is a free starter pack which gives you a free upgrade and allows you to carry previous routes over without having to buy anymore. That alone is a good enough reason to upgrade.
If it's visual glitches and popping trees that bother you, those were resolved a long time ago. Use this absolute must-have mod by JetWash: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/tsw-5-enhancement-lighting-graphic-ep-v1-1.84738/ Also, if you have 7800X3D, you should have no major problems with stuttering, back when I was on 5900X it was stuttering, I did not like it, but it was still bearable, mostly because reusing precached shaders, which is one of the features of the mod above. 7800X3D must be a breeze compared to it. Really give it a try.
Of course you should upgrade as it is free to do so. It installs separately so if performance isn’t good enough, you can always revert to TSW4. Hopefully you will have enough disc space to install TSW5 without removing TSW4. Of course you won’t be able to play any new DLC using TSW4 but I’m sure you knew that.
can someone point me in the direction of where to download it for free please? My TSW4 along with all the Uk add ons is via the Microsoft store. All I can see there are the different TSW5 versions which are priced accordingly and a free version which is for game pass which I don’t have and looks like it’s a demo? Thanks
Also briefly looked at the Mod mentioned above which says also needs a god mode mod installed and to be played in the windowsnoeditor\ location but can’t find that on my system
Hmm, this can be an issue that you have TSW4 through MS Store. There are known incompatibilites even for Epic versions, the golden standard is the Steam version, majority of mods are created primarily for this version unfortunately. I have no experience with modding the Store version, maybe someone else will comment on this.
