CTC-3(and the single levels coaches) have the same bug as the version from Boston Sprinter: there is no LOD's for the passengers(?), which means that they are visible only from a distance of like 10 meters, from a greater distance the coach is empty.
I did the next Journey chapter last night, which was a late afternoon early evening run west in rain, and I was curious how the reduced draw distances in darkness and fog would affect the dismal frame rates in the Westborough area. Unfortunately (and surprisingly to me) it was almost as bad as before. This confirms my suspicion there’s something definitely wrong with scenery in the Westborough area. It does seem to improve quite a bit once I got to Grafton and Worcester. Other than this stretch, the route has no other problems with frame rates. XBox S
Just completed the second part of the Q436 activity, switching. It went well, but I have a bone to pick with whoever wrote this one. Part 1 and 2 happen without any break between them, so when you go into the second part, the loco should still be set up and you should not have to go through the entire set up procedure like cutting in the brakes, turning on the field switch nor the headlights. These would still be in the run position from part 1.
Since the alerter in the CTC-3 doesn't make any sound, it just flashes, it means that in situations where the sun is directly shining onto the alerter button, you won't know it's going off. I was just doing a service from Worcester and had like 3 emergency brakes due to the alerter going off without me knowing before I gave up and exited. What has happened to the warning sound it had in Boston-Providence?
I noticed this also no beeping or tone just flashing on alertor .it gets fustrating during a run somtimes i am focus on other train operations and before know it im getting penalty braked cause no warning that alertor going off and since only seconds to acknowledge it too late..I also play TSC there are a few trains in routes on it that there no alertor warming sounds...anymore if i can i play with the safety system s off i do ..
I have seen on YouTube the F40PH prime mover sound's were not added due to an issue with the sound not matching the notch selected with the throttle. Is this something being worked on we can expect to see in an update? Love the route it’s clear a lot of effort was put into it. Couple bugs here and there but overall it’s fantastic!
Many are forgetting that the HSP-46 has 4600HP, while the F40’s have 3000HP. That makes a large difference.
Playing freight job csx q436 and right at last stopping cannot move due to red signal using xbox series x
The MBTA also has another doors closing announcement which I remember hearing when I used to ride the MBTA
thats nice but what we are trying to figure out here is why the power comes in such increments up to notch 6 and then at notch 7 (and then 8) the spike in amps and tractive effort is almost double
Looking forward to test the performance improvements, hopefully they are noticeable. But it would be good to get some info on how they have been done? Hopefully not just by simply removing trees, lol. Was any unoptimized foliage assets found and improved maybe?
The HSP and modern diesels are set up that way. For instance, Metro-North’s P32AC-DM’s originally loaded up pretty fast. (Something similar to the F40s taking off). However, that all changed after the P32s were rehabilitated. They received two smaller turbo’s instead of one large one, and some software changes for the sake of EPA regulations. End result? They load similar to the HSP. (At full throttle, it’ll take off slowly, then around 10mph, it becomes a jet). They’re tuned that way on purpose. Otherwise, if you don’t think this is accurate, you can ask some real world engineers. - BTW DTG, awesome job with the post release patch for this route. I’m getting a lot smoother frames now. Areas that were in doubt before perform better now. Thank you.
If un install boston sprinter will affect boston worcester route in any way reason I ask is i have completed everything on and want to free up memory thanks
Yeah, I also want to know what caused such a huge FPS drop at Westborough. Now I see 75 fps in this area, before it was 29, but visually nothing has changed. Amtrak trains will gone.
Did a run to Worcester and I have to say, good job on the optimalization! Whatever you guys did, my framerate now is better with higher foliage settings than it was with low foliage settings. I think that may be correct? I remember someone saying that they try to stop the trains as close to the open end of the station as possible due to exhaust fumes. I'm not sure though.
i believe those are only on the 700 series kawasaki bi levels. the 800 series hyundai bi levels use that british sounding one.
if I knew some, I would ask, you bet ... but your explanation will do for the time being ... I am not disputing the accuracy of simulation, but it just seemed a bit weird that the loco behaved this way cos I havent encountered such power pattern in any other US loco in the game, so I wanted to know how and why is it that way (and if it aint a bug or sth) so thx for explanation, now I know at least something
We had our first snow of the winter today at out place, so I decided to do a fitting snowy run into Boston as well. It was very nice. Driving the almost non-stop morning express in the morning through the snow covered landscape was really relaxing. And for the most part it looks pretty good. Sadly just as I took this last screenshot when pulling into Boston South, my game crashed as I exited the photo mode, lol
Also I noticed that snow kick up happens in the Back Bay tunnels. And why are none of the elevators working along the route? You can call them, but they are just constantly making noise yet never arrive. They didn't work in the preview stream either.
But it happens in any tunnel in game. Isn't it? Also it seems to me that DTG promised to make this thing switchable hundred years ago.
I don't quite remember. Maybe? But yeah, in their current state they would be better to be simply turned off. They are always the wrong color, look very bad with long trains and act in really weird ways (like inside tunnels and constantly turn on at a given speed).
The night lighting on this route is really good(compared to many other routes). But the street lights turn off too early. There is some pink tones on the East part of the sky(like 20 minutes before the sunrise), and no city lights already. At least in June.
The headlights on the F40PH are incredibly light and need tweaking. The others are mostly fine, though could always be better.
Yeah, that is an issue for sure you can try turning the lights to dim, but till DTG makes a change, wearing sunglasses at night may help
(I’m on Xbox series S) The update improved the frame rate in the Westborough and Grafton area. Good job DTG! Notably, though, the freight trains no longer spawn any custom liveries on any cars. And they no longer include several types of cars from other freight routes including: the UP or BNSF double-door high cube boxcars; the 2-bay open hoppers; BNSF and CC covered hoppers; and probably several others. However I can live with these concessions since this is primarily a passenger route. As a “freight nut” I enjoy the freight activities in the timetable. I’m really impressed with the job they’ve done on this route. The biggest compliment I can give is that it “looks right”. It looks like my New England, which is where I’ve lived my whole life. I’ve been to (or rode the Lake Shore Limited over) many parts of this route, including Worcester Station and Framingham. It looks (and feels) very authentic to me. The sounds are excellent. I love hearing the quacking mallard ducks when I’m near a body of water. The rattles of the MBTA equipment are very immersive. I’ll agree that the headlights of the F40 are extremely bright, and the glare in fog is overpowering. But we US players have been complaining about Dovetail not making US locomotive headlights bright enough, so we’re getting what we asked for. When doing the Journey chapter which is running on a foggy night, I have to put the headlights on “dim” with the ditch lights off, but they’re still overwhelming. I’m sure that’s not realistic to run without lights on full. I have every North American route and add-on (except the UP heritage pack) and this is the first product in a LONG time that seems like they put some actual TLC into it, some real care about getting it right. Some folks from their “A” team must’ve been assigned to this route. Again, good job, DTG!
This is NOT how you do bright headlights though. You don't just crank up the brightness. In any 3D engine you have several setting that you can tweak on light sources. Alongside color and brightness, you can set the wideness of the light cone and also how far the light reaches. To make proper high beam headlight what you need to do is not simply setting a high brightness value, but to set the spread futher. That way you iluminate further without completely washing out objects close to the light. Also, if you would want to do it really properly, you would do it with IES light profiles that allows for realistic light spread and patterns. Funnily enough there is ONE train in TSW using IES profile for headlights. But only one. They never bothered to use this technique ever since, even though they clearly know how to make it. Just another cases of laziness/rushed content, because I assume setting this up would be 5 minutes instead of the avarage 2.
Which train is this, I would like to see it, at night, it wouldn't be on the GWG/GWR route, would it? - Yes, they said okay you want brighter headlights, here ya go, make sure your wearing sunglasses at night! I have seen so bright that I couldn't look at the screen, DTG went from one extreme to the other. Correct in the US and CA the ditch lights need to be on and flash at level crossings and no turning the lights to dim or almost off is crazy, there are still scenarios in TSW3 that are just off the wall crazy with the lighting. This is not new, this is old, old news, and still can't get proper lighting. This includes some routes UK and German routes.
So far every train I run to Worcester was 6 car. And every train from Worcester was 5 car. What kind of magic is this? Where is a car?
There are 5 and 6 car trains in both directions. Also there are a few 9 car trains, but only like 1 or 2 per direciton as express trains.
First I would like to say what a beautiful locomotive you guys added to the new MBTA route. Very functional, detailed and a great addition to my fleet. My only disappointment came when I started up a free roam route in Boston at south Boston station and noticed that the Route Hopping icon was no where to be found. Of course I had purchased the Boston sprinter route previously and again one of my favorite routes for the Acela, I did all the research I could do. checking the map, checking forums to which I have not found an answer. I know that route hopping was one of the features that was highlighted before the release of the MTBA route and I was really looking forward to using this feature. I certainly hope that if this is indeed an oversight or bug or glitch of some kind that DTG will be able to apply a fix. Thank you DTG for your attention to this matter.
It’s good to learn that DTG could do bright US/CA headlights correctly if they chose to. It sounds like it’s not that difficult or time consuming.
Of course they could. But they pretty much said it's more work to set light sources up this way so they won't do it. Or something along those lines. I find it pretty ridiculous when every locomotive will have like what, 3 headlights at maximum? It's not like this means an extra work for 300 light sources per route. You only have to do the locomotives, most of which are usually reused from previous releases. So the effort it would take would be minimal for such a great difference, yet they refuse to do it.
I must say, I think this route may be one of the best US passenger routes in TSW. Definitely a treat to run trains on. I am not familiar with this line in real life but DTG did a fantastic job on the scenery detail between Boston South and Worcester. I can definitely tell time an effort was put into the scenery, audio, track layout and signaling, and everything across the board is amazing. The amount of traffic encountered, the accurate highway signs and the transition between the urban Boston area to the suburbs leading west towards Worcester is great. My favorite part is operating the HSP46 locomotive. It reminds me so much of the Metro North P32AC-DM with the GEVO 12 sounds being somewhat similar to a GE-7FDL-12 engine sound. I really enjoy the tunnel and derelict scenery on the sides of the tracks around Backbay station, especially the top of the tunnel. This definitely gives me hope that maybe one day, we'll see a subway line in TSW. The only thing I may suggest if an update for this route happens would be to add signs along the track to let you know when to blow the horn and there is a railroad crossing just south of Farmingham where the crossing gates do not go down when the train is approaching. Other than that, DTG did a phenomenal job on this DLC. I look forward to future US routes for TSW
It closes. But it has a limited closing time. If you stand at the platform for too long, the timer will expire and the crossing will open. Same on San Bernardino Line. This definitely needs some work by DTG.
I feel like this may have been fixed on SBD… at least this weekend when I played it for the first time in a while, I noticed when I stopped at El Monte, the crossings went up after a little while but then went back down again as soon as I started moving.
First of all I must say that so far this has been the best North American route Dovetails has ever produced so far. In addition to the train sounds, I'm loving the sounds of the doves cooing as well. The freight train joint sounds could use a little bit more work though. One thing I've noticed though that the headlights on the trains on that route no longer cast shadows. If it can be looked at that'd be great. It sorta kills some of the immersion imo. But other than that, the route's been great. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed though as I've yet to traverse more runs on that map
Just completed freight service B721, Framingham to Everett. There are 2 what I think are spurious speed zones on the route I drove. They do not show up anywhere, and I realize that freight limits are not displayed except when close to there start. Each was about 100 yards long. They dropped and went right back up. I have a screen grab of the run graft which shows them.
