Would like to know if there's any plans in the works for de 30 and dm 30 c3 car inclusion into lirr routes as well non electric territory into the game. The route is great but diesel trains are a big deal when it to the lirr and I know it is very much important to the those who are big fans of the lirr please take this into major consideration dtg. It needs to be done .
Curious to hear what services can be done if DTG was to make DM30/C3.would players be ok with what’s available when it comes with the current LIRR2 map
Well the diesels would certainly give more traffic to the main line, and Long Island Terminal would finally get some trains as well. While I believe we don't have any full branches that could use the diesels, you could still drive them up to Mineola and Hicksville. Ideally the best would be to get the Port Jefferson branch completed. It's not THAT long compared to the other eastern branches, yet also the one with most usage I believe. Then one could drive the EMUs to their terminus, and also the diesels all the way to the end.
you could do Port Jefferson (has about 20 services) or Oyster Ba(has about 32). Now the big question is, would players pay for another LIRR route, some for the third time?
It would be really be nice if Dovetail did what rivet did with the Levenmouth branch on the Fife Circle and added the DM30 as a loco DLC. If Dovetail did make the DM30 as a DLC and made the price 25 or 30$ to make up the cost of making a new branch for free, I’d probably pay the extra money.
Well, it wouldn't be much different than the two MBTA routes or the two Metrolink routes from the same terminuses. That could work quite well, since the Port Jefferson branch continues with the electrification up to Huntington. So the EMUs could be driven up to Huntington, then you could buy the diesels add-on to access the DM30 services and drive all the way to Port Jefferson. So it would be a big win for simply the existing owners of the route, but at that point you would likely be really inclided to get the diesels as well to access the full branch.
They could do the Port Jefferson branch, finish the Ronkonkoma branch and even up to Speonk on the Montauk branch it all kind of borders each other. Stopping at Hickville is not enough. The Babylon branch needs to made its to busy of a line to be ignored especially from Bethpage to Ronkonkoma.
The Ronkonkoma and Montauk branches are quite long. I think the only way we ever see them is if they are standalone routes. But the Port Jefferson or the Oyster Bay branches are quite shorter and wouldn't require that long of an extension. It's not small work, but they are also not the length that would justify their own routes - unless it's a combined Port Jefferson & Oyster Bay route. So if the capacity and will is there, I think the Port Jefferson or the Oyster Bay branch would be a good candidate for a free extension to hype up a standalone diesels add-on. Though is that something I see DTG doing? Probably not. But one can dream, lol. Either way I would love to see the LIRR diesels, whatever way they choose to introduce them.
This was discussed nearly every day in the leadup to LIRR 2 on the Discord. First, if it's not on the roadmap, DTG doesn't have plans to do it. The bigger thing though is an active member of the discord who has worked for the MTA for years has said it's unlikely to happen as LIRR is deeply ashamed of these locomotives and can't wait until they can buy replacements due to their many mechanical problems and breakdowns. They don't show them off to anyone and practically act like they don't exist outside of their regular operation. They said it's very unlikely they'd draw attention to them and allow DTG to access them for reference or put them in game.
But they seemingly had no problem with the M3 being in TSW? Or their tone shifted so drastically in the last few years?
That is crazy for the MTA to have that stance against their LIRR diesel fleet and even more crazier to not allow them in a train simulation game. If they are so down on them they should have slowly started replacing the DM 30 DE 30 years ago because as far as i can see they're still going strong up until today. I hope DTG still tries to get them we deserve it.
I'm glad the have a simulator available for the DE30 at the Oyster bay Railroad museum. Is not functional yet but maybe in the future similar to their operational M7 one
