Welcome to the Salzburg-Rosenheim Scenery Enhancements! Introduction The Bahnstrecke Salzburg-Rosenheim is one of my absolute favourite routes. This is mainly because of my love to the Salzburg-Freilassing area and my fascination for Austria in TSW. But in the early days, as I discovered how the Lokmuseum Freilassing looks for example, or how weird the fortress Hohensalzburg looks, I decided to use the relatively new PC Editor and it’s ability to create scenery overlays for routes. Everything began wit updating the Lokmuseum Freilassing only a bit, adding lights to the Europark building and adding the forgotten “IDEAL” and this pack grew over the months, adding more and more features that expand areas, add more realistic signs and many more. Another advantage of this Mod is, that you don’t need anything, only the base route Salzburg-Rosenheim. The 2024 Upgrade Pack In addition to the Scenery-Enhancements, I also provide a 2024-Update pack which adds some things that got added in real life since 2013, the year in which Salzburg-Rosenheim is set. This pack is not including the scenery enhancements, so you need both mods for the best effect if you want to play in 2024. If not, only activating the normal scenery enhancements is your thing to do! What has been added? Salzburg Hbf: -Added over 15 randomized ÖBB announcements which play randomly, provided by https://eisenbahn-content.at/ -Added waiting boxes, more information boards and destination boards -Opened Salzburg Hbf’s Schallmoos Entrance via teleporters, improved scenery there -Opened Salzburg Hbf’s main hall, although not so beautiful due to limitations by the game -Added night lights to the colorful apartments -Added and replaced new station signs, added orange arrows and exit signs Salzburg City & Suburbs -Opened Salzburg-Mülln-Altstadt to the promenade, you can now walk up to the Müllner-Steg bridge along the river Salzach -Improved Salzburg Altstadt & Fortress Hohensalzburg, added missing main cathedral of Salzburg, missing mountains in the distant, missing scenery -Added night lights to the Europark Shopping centre -Added Swedish “IDEAL” to Taxham-Europark -Added & Replaced station signs, added orange arrows, exit symbols and missing “S-Bahn Salzburg”-Logos Freilassing -Added missing BR 144-locomotive -Added missing buildings opposite the street of Freilassing station building -Improved Lokmuseum Freilassing: ground textures, added missing building, enhanced turntable area, added missing Köf-II-locomotive -Added a moving park train to Lokwelt Freilassing (Originally planed to be rideable) -Added a plane flying over Freilassing station (coming IRL from Salzburg airport) Across the route -Added 13 history boards, where you can learn about the the route’s history, landmarks, etc. -Added cows & tractors across the whole route -Added a hot air balloon near Hufschlag -Added a missing church in Bad Endorf Salzburg-Rosenheim 2024 Upgrade Pack: -Added fake tracks to Salzburg Hbf -Added modern glass building to Salzburg Hbf -“Opened” Salzburg Liefering station -Added blue/white retaining walls to Freilassing -Added platform 96 and 97 to Freilassing -Painted Freilassing station white & added a construction site Future Plans Future plans are actually the things, which you would like to see – yes, you heard right! If you have any suggestions that sound doable, please tell me! I would also be happy to update the park train a bit with more realistic models or working seats. Also, opening the Elisabethkai and fixing the park train braking together will be things to be done in the future, as well as improving the Köf-II-loco and the BR 144. Loaded without issues, i.e. UE crash, and ran fine in the short service I did with the 4024, S3 (5061). As far as how this mod enhances the route, I live in the US and really would not know. I am glad people are doing things like this to enhance the look of routes.
Well, I haven't found the little park railway yet, but I did only a few minutes of exploring in nor the best weather yesterday. It does load without problems and the additions to the Salzburg part are a real enrichment of the route. The new announcements made me finally feel like I'm in Austria again. Thanks very much for your great work!
So, now that I've spent last night going up and down the whole route and explored the Lokwelt Freilassing finally, I'm ready to properly give my two cents on this EP. First of all I found a hovering Grenzzeichen between tracks 14 and 15 at Freilassing. I'm not sure if that was the EP's doing or if it simply was like that before (there simply was no point for me to leave the platforms and go exploring before), but I've got no intention of ever playing a service on this route again without the EP, so... Apart from that I haven't been able to find any more flaws really, if that is even connected to the EP at all. My two suggestions for future enhancements are: 1. an update to the models of the BR 144.5 and the Köf II in Freilassing with more sophisticated meshes and/or textures (I know that's already in future plans), 2. the Localbahnstation Prien am Chiemsee screams for more details and maybe even a static Chiemseebahn-train (it could just be an upscaled version of its little version doing loops on the Lokwelt Freilassing grounds). I already mentioned enjoying the new station announcements at Salzburg Hbf in my previous post. The airplane taking off at Salzburg passing over Freilassing is a wonderful touch, though it's a bit too loud for the (welcomed) high frequency of flights in my opinion. The hot air balloon is a nice touch as well, it really made me smile when i first spotted it. What I enjoyed most though is something not included in the poll-options of this thread: Freddie's Histories boards. They really add to the whole experience, telling interesting facts about the towns and landmarks in a fun way and giving players something to look at while waiting in front of a red signal on a freight service for example. It's attention to (little) details that do the trick for me and countless other players (just look at TSG routes like Niddertalbahn). Here these details (even if fictional) add an educational purpose on top. Now, the use of the fursona is both fun and pretty clever at the same time and here's why: First, it adds a nice personal touch to the EP, players instantly know who made it. Second, even if some players doesn't want to or can't make heads or tales of him, the way he is placed on the boards as some sort of a presenter makes Freddie feel like he's the mascot of the regional tourism board, which in reality he obviously isn't, but might as well be - many regions and/or railways around the globe have them, just look at countires like Japan. Personally I already embraced him for who he is and as the unofficial mascot of the route. That's also my recommendation for players who take offense to him because it's not authentic to the route in real life: If you can't appreciate him for who he is on his own, then just think of him as a touristic mascot trying to tell you fun facts and direct you to points of interest. So FreddieTheShepherd , I hope my little review is of some help to your future plans for possible updates to the EP. Keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to your future and current projects and more Freddie easter eggs.
Since you asked, it would be great if at least some of the generic house assets, especially in the rural sections, could be replaced with more typical Austro-Bavarian houses, which are very distinctive.
Oh thanks for this very good review! You're right, the Grenzzeichen isn't something I changed, that, together with a fail-placed PIS sign in Salzburg Hbf, but I have to raise a ticket for that in next time... The Chiemseebahn is actaually already ingame. If you unlock the Mastery for TSW, you see it there steaming and making sounds. For the plane sounds: It's likely that I will update it a bit and also the sounds, it depends on how it feels to me when I review them once more... Now to the history boards: Thanks for these words! (I now added them to the list too) It's nice to hear that they get receiced well. I really had fun with collecting information and presenting it in a short but informative (and multilangual) way, and also with implementing Freddie into them. I always find it sad that routes get described in introductions but not it's landmarks, personalities or cities, because there're always interesting things you can explore and I always find it sad, that most historical about a route etc. get's forgotten so quickly and with that, I wanted to get a deeper connection to the places. Also, doing something more with Freddie (or call him "me") is always someting that makes fun to me...and something that definitely will get into more future projects. And maybe, one day, another route get's scenery enhancements I see what I can do Thanks for the suggestion! Maybe, I will release a short list with future improvements to give some overview over the current situation.
I did one run with this mode active (should have been two but first time I did not realize you need to activate the mode as a layer during the first run ) and it was extremely good. Salzburg looks fantastic and the entire route has received an upgrade when it comes to detail. Could you please also do something with Semmering? At least when it comes to buildings along the route it needs some love in order to unlock the full potential because they look extremely generic and sterile
I hope more rolling stock arrives too the coming year to improve the lack of diversity on the route. I think the railscene could be improved a lot with that. for now I have downloaded all timetables from the stations on that route to recreate that timetable better when my Salzburg one is done
Wow that is fantastic news. I didn't know the timetables for Salzburg and Semmering can be improved even further since they do have quite a bit of services. What i would suggest if its possible to also add the RJ/Nj liveries to the appropriate services. That would make a huge difference at least on Simmering Also maybe some day we also get some proper EC / RJ services on Vorarlberg Sorry for the off topic FreddieTheShepherd !
Yeah I might see how I'll do those NJ/EN's. for now I made them look like it a bit by using multiple wagon DLC instead of only the DB IC ones DTG uses. Freddie has given me a multitude of amazing stock to use for the timetable some of which already to be seen in my thread on the PC editor part of this forum. Salzburg - Rosenheim was done pretty well but it's a good place to learn to add more and more. Especially with no preservation crew I'm glad people are willing to keep timetables up to date or renew old ones completely. Semmering is one where the lack of different wagons and stock really shows and I hope when I start on that project there is more to use by the default game dlc's.
To continue the off-topic: You could use the 5022 on Semmering as AI stock (I'm creating a regional VOR-repaint currently), and if you need some NJ stock, feel free to tell me, I see what I can do
I'll take a while before semmering but since EN is all eurofirma I'll ping u a discord notif somewhere before this weekend on what I need.
FreddieTheShepherd After going off topic I have another suggestion for your EP Did a night run from Rosenheim and everything was pretty much pitch black along the route. Barely any projected / flood lights near settlements including most part of Rosenheim. Would you consider adding more lights around the route, similar to what the team did with the Wcml EP? Right now while dusk is oke I cannot drive during night since it's simply pitch black almost the entire route, like all cities towns are deserted
Dear community! I have some christmas-news on the SRM scenery enhancements: While work on major update 1.1 already began, Matin_TSP advised me to build a christmas version of it (with trees placed at the major stations). Instead of updating it I thought to upload a version, with some new features implemented too, here, as a special gift. The link will work until 23rd december, so be quick with downloading! And as a new feature, this pak contains now both Mods (The base version and the 2024 upgrade) https://get.hidrive.com/GLdm9AsZ
