Xbox Games To Gift Sales Now Live! (prev. Thread "no Sales")

So I'm guessing there was no black friday sale on xbox then

 

I thought Black Friday was Nov 29th? In any case Xbox sales for TSW are extremely rare, so I wouldn’t expect anything.

 

There generally is, but what you are hoping for isn't normally included in it.......

Isn’t Black Friday around the US Thanksgiving public holiday? As someone said above, the end of November. When we all dig out Planes, Trains and Automobiles for the annual viewing.

 

The various storefronts ended the sales they had going on previously last month precisely because of Black Friday coming up. So they can legally remain within the time period stuff needs to have been at "full price" come the end of November.

 

Yes, Thanksgiving is on November 28th this year. Therefore Black Friday is the next day, the 29th, although more and more stores are opening on Thanksgiving Day itself. Unfair to employees but business comes first I guess.

These days, most sensible people skip it or, increasingly, stay home and shop online in their p.j.'s.

Also worth noting that the 28th is the very latest the holiday can be as it's always the 4th Thursday of November.

 

It's too early for a Black Friday sale.

That said, TSW DLC is rarely included in the sales on XBOX, and big discounts as seen in other games are even rarer, so don't hold your breath....

There never is i don't think and when is on sale its only a few routes that are on sale

 

Of course not - existing players on XBOX seldom get meaningful DLC sales.

Apparently this is all down to MS not giving DTG sale slots. It makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever, given how many DLC sale slots other games get, but there you go.

 

I was on xbox store earlier and they had atleast 10 star wars game in the sale and more then 20 ea sports games do they really need that many in the sale

 

Few routes I want to get, but will wait until either Xmas or January sales at this rate.

Do people really believe that DTG go to Xbox and say 'we would like to put some content on sale', and Xbox say 'no'?

I don't know, but I can't think of any coherent reason why xbox would refuse DTG's request(s) to put content on sale.

The self entitled nature of these type of posts. Nothing wrong with a sale, but to moan because the sale on your platform doesn't revolve around you. Jesus Christ listen to yourself!

The world does not revolve around you and you are not a victim. Sales happen on independent platforms at different times. It's not a big issue, and if it bothers you that much to get something at a discounted price then wait until there is a XBox sale?

Yep. That's exactly what happens.

 

It doesn't at all. What does make sense is buying a secondhand PS5 for considerably less than that so I can play any number of Sony exclusives dating back to Uncharted that I can't play on XBox.

Second hand PS5's are a decent price now. Add on the exclusives such as GoW, Horizon etc, it's absolutely worth it.

Smartest and simplest thing anyone could do to confirm this is - ASK ANY OTHER GAME DEV ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE OF PUTTING THEIR GAME ON SALE ON XBOX. I know that someone who worked on Arcade Paradise is active on the Eurogamer comments, that game gets more sales than TSW as I recall, ask him maybe?

 

The sales on Xbox always seem to be the same stuff over and over again. I have things on my watch list that have never been on sale, ever. They seem to always push just certain titles. I believe Matt and DTG when they say that they take advantage all Xbox sales offered.

However, the real question is why so much of the older TSW library is so expensive. RSN plus the 155 and 363 would set you back $65. At this point something like that should be bundled for $20. This would help newer players build their collection as they still pay full price for the more recent stuff. And, this would help more established players round out their collection, again while still paying full price for the newer stuff. How is it that the 187 and 204 still cost $20 each? I would buy a lot more of these older DLCs if they were cheaper and I suspect others might as well. Why is the new Boston route the same price as CJP, which introduced TSW3? These prices for older content don't make any sense, unless people are still paying top dollar for the older stuff. I don't think that's the case; more likely inertia and lack of creativity.

Maybe DTG can't control sales but they surely set their own prices. The lack of sales wouldn't be such a big deal if the older DLCs ever got cheaper.

They have explained about Sales and Xbox loads of times in livestreams and road map streams. I dont have a link as there are too numerous to even remember when they were said. Sony and steam have more Sales than Xbox as MS dont give that many slots for Xbox sales. Thats it and just how it is. Its upto Microsoft. Not dovetail. They are not screwing xbox user over.

Yep exactly this! It seems like 3rd party routes rarely go on sale if ever. I don't think the MML, Edinburgh Glasgow or Fife circle have ever been on sale on Xbox.

 

Specifically, as they don't give DTG that many sale slots.

Publishers like 34BigThings, 505, Annapurna, Arc System Works, Aspyr, Assemble Entertainment, BatteryStaple, Crypton, Curve, Devolver, EpiXR, Game Bakers, Headup, Humble, Inkyfox, Kitfox, Merge, Microids, Mixtvision, Modus, Motion Twin, Plaion, Playdead, Playdius, PM Studio, PQube, Private Division, Serenity Forge, Strange Scaffold, Team17, Thunderful, Thunder Lotus, Tinybuild, Type Moon, Uppercut, Wales Interactive, Whitethorn, Wired Productions, to name a few, all get a good 16+ weeks of sales on their stuff every year.

I did used to wonder if DTG fall into a category where they are slightly too big to be considered a small indie but too small to be with the heavy hitters, though the Focus buyout should have shifted the metrics on that, and it does not seem to have. Asobo, Blackbird, Cyanide, Saber and Spiders' games published by them see regular XBox sales.

 

My best guess? Once, years ago, someone ran over Phil Spencer's cat, and the only identifiable feature he caught sight of through the car window as they drove off, was pink cat ear headphones.

 

While in general MS restricts DLC sales to a far greater extent than the games themselves, particularly for games on Game Pass, it seems bizarre that MS would ration sales slots to DTG to the extent it does when we can all see that certain publishers get discount slots literally every week. I'd love to understand why, but I suspect we'll never know.

We had a little purple patch earlier this year with comparatively more sales than normal but it’s been a good few months since anything went on sale. Possibly as TSW5 was day one on Game Pass.
