The Bakerloo Line receiving a minor upgrade to include AI on the small section of WCML featured on it and possibly just upgrade it with TOD4 lighting.

 

It's the only TOD3 route in the special edition - so it seems likely!

 

I am wondering if this will happen too as they have suggested something is going on with it.

That would be fantastic. I'm not expecting a real life timetable for AI traffic but seeing WCML stock blasting past and the 710(hopefully) would be awesome

 

Gonna keep low expectations and just hope for the best.

I'm honestly expecting low-effort loco reskins and useless DLC packs like "Legends of the Great Western" for £14.99

Getting hyped over anything DTG related only brings disappointment.

 

The big announcement at 20th, hopefully preservation crew return. I think Dtg is big enough as a company to make a team of 5 or 6 people to make most peoples dreams come true.

What is the preservation crew?

 

The team responsible for route remasters I believe.

 

They fix bugs and add new stuff to older routes

 

Once upon a time, about 4 years ago, Dovetail Games announced Train Sim World 2 (the successor to Train Sim World 2020).

Train Sim World 2 promised lots of new features and upgrades like longer trains, higher speeds, variable adhesion, scenario planner, livery designer, and an engine upgrade to UE4.23, but DLC from Train Sim World 2020 would not be carried over. This meant routes like Great Western Express, Ruhr Sieg Nord, and Peninsula Corridor would be left behind, and, apparently, the community made enough of a deal out of it that DTG delayed the release of TSW2 and created the 'Preservation Crew'.

The Preservation Crew's job would be to bring all of TSW2020's routes into TSW2 (with the exception of the GP40 and the Northeast Corridor). Routes that had been brought over were part of the 'Preserved Collection', presumably named because people's old collection would be preserved in the new game.

Later, once the Preserved Collection had been brought over, the Preservation Crew turned to fixing bugs on the older routes and adding new features like functioning passenger information screens. Over time, however, they were quietly downsized and phased out. When TSW3 came out, DTG learnt from their past, and ensured all of TSW2's content (and the Preserved Collection) would be playable in TSW3. These older routes are now called 'TSW Compatible Content', presumably named because they are older routes that are compatible with the new game.

And we all live happily ever after. The end.

Except for the Preservation Crew. They've ceased to exist since about 2021.

 

Ah ok thanks, brilliant explanation! Which routes have still been left behind? I can't seem to find what they are anywhere.

Thinking about it, these trains aren't left behind because they have got upgraded, new York Treeton is upgraded, the amtrak is in the game, not left behind. Perhaps the csx one was left behind because it wasn't what people wanted

 

I'm not sure about the GP40, but I do know that the NEC route was left behind because DTG said that the way it was built at the time (it was an early route) meant that it would require a complete rebuild to bring to TSW2. However, with New York-Trenton, we do have something to replace it with (even if you still have to buy it).

 

The GP40-2 was left behind because DTG wasn't happy with how it was modeled or something ,and if they wanted to bring it forward, it would need to be rebuilt from scratch, according to Matt a few years ago.

Yeah these guys sound awesome. As if they’ve been on the forums and learnt what the audience expect / anticipate from a route / dlc / product, even after its launch.

Hopefully we see something extra in a few weeks too.

The railtours pack layering onto WCMLOS is a welcome suprise at least for me. Always excited to see a new loco dlc as well. So hopefully they release some good content! Definitely intrigued by athena sim

I really don’t have any ideas or predictions as to what’s coming but I can’t help but feel like everybody’s setting their expectations way too high

 

The preservation crew is definitely not returning.

 

We can all dream though..

 

I wonder if the 'special surprise' that they've been waiting to tell us has anything to do with the extension of the free starter pack's deadline. After all, the special surprise comes close to the end of the year, and the Free Starter Pack doesn't actually have an end date apart from 'early next year'.

It'd be strange to take a step down at the end of a month of what may be some larger route reveals to just give us a sticker pack or extending the free starter pack, and it's clearly been something they've been sat on for a while that they're excited about, and that doesn't scream 'decals' to me. I doubt it's a new route, as releasing that so close to Christmas would be risky with post-release patches when staff are taking a festive break. Likewise, I don't think it's Holiday Express 2.0 as the 20th is too close to Christmas day to have a large enough sale window before it becomes irrelevant for another 11 months.

So my money would be a new loco, or a new feature of some description?

** I should caveat this is based on an assumption that whatever is announced at the end of the month releases there and then, which of course could just as likely not be the case**

 

I think we will like I said definitely see athena sim pop up..I feel they are omitting certain things from coming soon on roadmap for obvious reasons for this event. They have said as I did post screens that they have multiple projects in development including a new route which is modern and a loco which is ready apparently.

As to what this loco will be idk. As to what route, something that's probably out already.

I got excited reading about their stuff when they were first introduced. I stupidly skipped past all the stuff they said they were working on.

 

I have a feeling we may get a few possible US and European route and loco add ons possibly that may have not been mentioned before or possible revamps and extensions of preserved TSW routes

 

They never explained why they extended the Starter Pack deadline though, and never gave a new date for its end.

I'm not actually sure how it could be related to the Starter Pack in any way though.

I'm afraid I am not quite sure what you mean by that. The Starter Pack works fine for me. Do you mean Euston - Milton Keynes? If so, that timeline actually works, since I believe we are getting the last of the major patches for WCML very soon indeed!

Sadly unless they have done a complete u-turn then you (and I) are going to be very disappointed.

 

That would be a dream come true but DTG have abandoned steam enthusiasts as far as I can tell

 

They’ve said the surprise is “something we’ve been working on for a while” so wouldn’t expect it to be anything to do with the starter pack.

My gut feeling is that it’ll be ECMLS.
