Good evening, my computer is getting creaky. It is still running a GTX1060 graphics card and is not suitable for Windows 11 apparently. I thought I might take advantage of the Black Friday sales and buy a pre-building gaming PC.

After doing some research the one below has caught my eye. I was wondering if anyone far more knowledgeable than me would have at least a vague idea of how it would cope with TSW. Mine runs it okay but not perfectly, this is more powerful in every aspect, better graphics card, double the ram, my CPU is an i3 so I assume this is better. My only concern is that is it a mini PC which makes me wonder how easy future upgrades would be and how it would cope with running hot etc?

    Any comments gratefully received. Thanks.

I'm in the same boat, running an iold I7 4770 and a GTX 1650 card. Windows 11 just laughed at it and it's way below the minimum spec for MSFS 2024 too.

Probably going to look at doing something next year, maybe a new box as upgrading this one would require changing just about every component.

Probably the only bits from mine worth keeping are the memory sticks and hard drive, although the case is decent too.

If I am going to have to bite the bullet I think I might as well do it when sales are on. I wonder if there will be Christmas sales with similar discounts.

I’m not up to date with PC prices in the uk, but that spec looks ok to me for the money.

What I would say is that the CPU is already 2 generations out of date. However my old PC had a 12th gen I5 and a lesser graphics card (3060) and it ran TSC very well and TSW adequately so I’m pretty sure it would be fine.

If I was looking for a machine around that spec. I think I’d try to stretch to an I7 and a 4070, but no doubt that would bump the price up a fair bit.

It could be that an AMD Ryzen might be a better option but I can’t really give an opinion on that as I’ve never used one. I’m sure someone else will be able to advise on that.

Hi thanks for that. I will see if I can upgrade it slightly. I did see some with the AMD Ryzen but hadn't really hard of them, I will check them out though.

Maybe it's just what I'm used to, but I would never really consider AMD for CPU or GPU.

As regards the case, well yes I like mine particularly as it has plenty of HD bays plus DVD-ROM bay which the newer ones don't always have. (And I still like to buy CD's and rip them to my MP3 player). So really torn as I said above over the best course of action. Whatever I do also has to get past the wife, too!

Up to individual choice, but I wouldn’t. Even if they announce it soon as expected, they have always released the high end cards first in the past. It’ll be some time before the 5060 and 5070 will be easily available. The 40 series is not likely to come down in price for new PC’s as NVIDIA stop making them long before the new ones come out. There will be 2nd hand bargains to be had though.

Above I think the OP is looking for a good price to take advantage of Black Friday, not the latest technology. They were asking about sales and looking at 2 generations old processors. If you are looking at a high end build, definitely wait, but in this case, I’m not sure it’s the best idea.

Thanks all for your responses. I don't have a large budget for a new machine unfortunately as I have to spend on the house. If it wasn't for impending Windows 11 I would have just upgraded the graphics card.

Have you looked at an open-box prebuilt system, from a reputable PC distributor? Mine is just that an open box prebuilt, I upgraded the GPU which was RMA'ed, and bumped up to a 4080 I swapped the PSU of my own and increased the RAM, at the Microcenter. Provided you have these options at hand. System specs are in my profile. And there are online payment options you could use to make monthly payments.

I have ordered the one in the link on my opening post. I will see how it performs and can look at upgrading it further if necessary. It is a far better spec than mine which doesn't run TSW badly.
