New London Overground Route....Mildmay Line: Stratford -Wilesden Who's excited? https://youtube.com/shorts/8Qi5xR13KFA?feature=shared
Don't want to be that guy... However why wasn't this extended to Richmond? I'm excited it's just not the full route unfortunately I am assuming Richmond may have some complexity with this but I wish we could do full runs... Although I'll probably buy it as I love the modern UK train content
Mostly stoked for this, especially as it’s a solo developer from these very forums. Unsure of the reason why it ends before the actual destination, in a relatively short Overground route, but otherwise I can get behind it and enjoy slogging some intermodals around North London at dusk.
For a solo developer, a route with complex London skyline, with a new train, I can sort of see why they’ve cut it short the route being cut short isn’t a dealbreaker to me, I’ll let it slide
It's literally being developed by one person. I think 12 miles in a very densely packed urban environment is fair.
Oh of course, maybe we could see some a potential expansion for this fingers crossed, but for a solo developer I understand but i still wanted a full route. But I am happy for this dude it's an achievement I just hope their could be more to be added to this route
As we seem to have two threads on the same topic, just add to this one as well, sorry to say with all respect to this being a solo project… If it had gone to Richmond and integrated with Goblin for a nice little NLL network I might have jumped in. There are just too many electric bus stop routes as it is.
Agreed, if statements I have read of here are to be believed and then my calculations are also correct, this route works out to be a station every 0.67 miles, which is about every 1173 yards. To put this into some perspective the length of 10 1st Division football pitches is the average distance between stations on this route.
well, there are multiple factors that probably went into that A. End to end, the North London Line features 27 stations, and for a solo developer, that might be difficult B. Given this route has an insane 10,000 service timetable, route length might have been sacrificed for that. God knows how gen8 will even handle this route up to Willesden C. I think the section between Willesden and Richmond (apart from the power changeover) is pretty boring anyway. So it wouldn’t be missed much.
I'm guessing all the WCML and Bakerloo traffic at Willesden accounts for a lot plus Suffragette at Gospel Oak and the Class 395s entering the HS1 tunnels. If you have all the layers it will feel very busy which is why going onto Clapham in particular would be a beast.
I think, personally, this might be the first gen9 only route. a gen8 console running something like this, even with only the 378 services, would struggle massively
Excited this for this since I used the line to travel to work back in 2017. The line not going to Richmond isn’t a deal breaker, what’s really selling it for me is the urban London city landscapes. TSW hasn’t really captured the London environment on any route as well as TSC has for me. This route may accomplish that. I also respect the fact that this has been developed by a solo dev, very impressive. Look forward to seeing more on the project in the upcoming months.
Fair point I just wish we had it end to end because lately we haven't been recieving that but hopefully this developer could work on an extension in the future way upon release this is very challenging and incredible for a a single person to do and I respect that, I totally understand Clapham junction would be absolute nightmare to work with But I suppose all the layers will make up for this route
I also think there are too many high speed routes, yay going in a straight line for 30-60 minutes wooo. Personally a big fan of the stoppers, more interesting to me, but I’m not gonna campaign for them to stop making the high speed ones because that’s what other people enjoy too
I can say that most of the people that have negative reactions on the internet has no clue what a job this guy is bringing. Its what already is written above a stunning amount of work and i can fully understand why he is not build the full route. Its extremely busy and dont forget its in a massive build area. So i can only ask.... why be so terribly conceited and react so bizarrely negative when you clearly don't know the story behind it. Shameless!! What i have read on Facebook some of this reactions are rude and bizar unnecessary. Those people have to think before they write some reactions.
A question on gen 8 was asked on the developers facebook page earlier. If I recall correctly he said it is planned to be on gen 8 but he could detail any timetable limitations for those consoles just now as more testing was needed to be done on gen 8 consoles.
Off my head there are three routes which offer proper British Intercity runs, compared to all the other British routes routes which have either a regional or commuter focus with regular stops. I am not campaigning against it them, but it would be nice to be seeing different eras or regions being represented if the commuter routes keep coming, rather than just replicating what we already have almost identically. I can't stand the idea of stoppers and have always made sure to be on the IC side of things in real life and although I tried the stoppers in TSW my preference has still stood. If I wanted to be a bus driver then I would have chosen that career path in the first place! As per the whole era debate, it is not about preventing any type of service, but making sure each is well represented.
I can't speak for everyone, and I'm not sure what has been said, but I can say that my negative impression came from the fact that we only got part of a London Overground route, and I always imagined that if someone was to do an Overground route, they'd have buffers on both ends. However, having learnt about the scenery across the route, the number of stations modelled, the number of services simulated, and the fact that Stratford station is coming, I have incredible respect for the developer now. Does it change my wish to have a full end-to-end Mildmay Line? No. But I have a lot more respect for this than I did a few hours ago. Also, this person's first attempt at a route brought in a new unit. That cannot be easy. I guess all that is left now is to wait to see more screenshots and preview streams.
Unfortunately that is the nature of the internet and often these forums, people feel enabled to be rude and uncharitable, where they probably wouldn't be in person. I certainly think those getting personal whether on here or Facebook should think about what they are saying but they probably don't see they are doing anything wrong. I certainly don't doubt that a lot of hard work has gone into this route and I would take nothing away from the skills and time and effort of the developer. Sadly I can see me hardly driving it as it would feel frustrating giving up control of a train five miles from its destination. I fully understand why the developer has chosen to end the route there, especially being their first route but it is likely to be a deal breaker for me. I hope it sells well though and I will look forward to the developers next venture. Maybe when I have seen the route in action I may change my mind. I think it is an ideal for route for TSW with its service timetable, if fully modelled.
Frankly I think your comments are disingenuous. A lot of people on here, myself included, have nothing but admiration and appreciation for what Johannes is doing but the question has to be asked why not simply delay the release and spend the extra time adding the missing part of the route? Furthermore, if people like your good self are willing to accept half done routes what incentive is there for any developer to produce a full length route?
this is exactly what I described.... making demands without knowing the context why this route is so short. I'm not filling in but trying to put myself in my place instead of assuming that postponing is a solution to improve this route..... I don't want to be unkind but has it occurred to you that these types of projects are based on a time frame and a budget? If that money runs out then you won't be able to do it anymore. A: he's alone and B: he's just starting so doesn't have the budgets to do it for 6 months longer. The first routes of TSW were also much shorter than the current ones at DTG products. I think I'll give him a chance first.
Maybe on the usual social media sites you have unwarranted negative reactions, but everything I've read on these forums so far have been respectful minus the usual suspects who feel the need to comment negatively on every modern British EMU route. I don't see how being disappointed that we're not getting the full run to Richmond is conceited. Es4t explained it best how settling for these short incomplete routes sets a precedence that the community is fine with portions of routes. I have no doubt that this route will sell well because it does look great in the article's screenshots and I'm sure others in the community are fine with this, but I myself am not, so I'll give it a pass. In the words of the wise Matt Peddlesden, if you don't like it, don't buy it, and that's what I plan to do. I'll certainly pick this route up on a deep discount because I am fond of the Capitalstars and enjoy modern EMUs, but unless we can expect an extension to Richmond, I'll have to wait this one out for the time being.
Fair enough! But if you read my story again i point out in the last section that i written about Facebook. Here on the forums is fine. Sorry if i create a misunderstanding there. And good point talk with youre wallet and not with text on Facebook or X with bizar excuses and strange arguments. If you dont like it pass it
Yes, if you read my earlier post you would see that im interested to know at what point did this turn from a free time labour of love project to a commercial one. Im all for giving new devs a chance particularly this guy as some of his work on the whole London project is very good but somewhat ambitious. Anyway, the fullness of time will no doubt reveal all.
I am happy that we are getting the Class 378. I honestly dont mind another overground route/electrostar train if we are completing the overground fleet. However, I am disappointed that we dont get to Richmond and Clapham as that could've been a great opportunity for branching paths and not getting boring just to get from point a to point b. The route looks great but that and the 378 doesnt change my mind on how this could've been delayed and allowed more time to get to Richmond and Clappham (Espically when we have a Clapham station model on brighton mainline but i do not know does that help with development or not) especially when this is a 3rd party developer and they should have allowed more time than DTG to produce routes and should be delayed to be allowed to complete a route or. Or in this current state, getting an extension to Richmond and Clapham in the future. Its a great feat by a single person but as others have said already, this isnt an excuse to produce incomplete routes. Prefered if the route is delayed. I have rest my case.
Clapham Junction as it is on BML would need to be remodeled entirely to be of any use in a new route.
Ah i see! Have clapham junction changed at all after brighton mainline's release? Or the station model would just needed to be remodeled to look better in TSW5 graphics?
Ah. And yea I do agree. for some reason some fences on the platforms are completely missing there. At least just on the southern platform wise.
This. And this. No one is having a pop at the guy for what he is doing, but as said once you put on those commercial pyjamas it becomes a whole new ball game. I mean, surely the thought crossed both Johanne’s mind, and DTG if they are mentoring, what’s the reaction likely to be if I cut the route short at Willesden. They cannot have been blind to the disappointment that would cause. It’s not as if routes finishing at odd places are new - Bernina, PFR etc and all have come in for a bit of flak. If the intention is to push on and gradually build a north London network all well and good but if not, as others have said, no one else is going to do NLL now this exists.
Thing is, people like their local routes represented, something they can relate to and more often than not it's these slow commuter lines. I do agree that more eras should be represented and it would be nice if some routes had like the legends of the great western with two seperate timetables.
