A busy route that favors great scenery in the countryside and urban territories.

Would be nice for a modern route released as DLC.
Types of train classes that could run the route
    158s
    159s
    Class 150s
    Class 165 turbos.

It would be a nice addition, but the distance is just too large for Train Sim World to handle

There's no such thing, the map tiles load and unload as needed, though dev time for over 100 miles would be the factor here

True, but it remains true that DTG won't make such a route. Maybe a segment...

Looked it up yesterday, they could do it in three, and the sections would be quite interesting from what I looked at.
    Portsmouth - Salisbury
    Salisbury - Bristol
    Bristol - Cardiff

I like the route, but what's the freight traffic like for those not into units? Aggregates around Westbury and Intermodals around Southampton I imagine but does much actually run on the route these days?

    Just done a quick RTT:
    Southampton... 5 freight, 8 ECS, 26 passenger movements in 75 minutes between 07:30 & 8:45
Salisbury... 8 Freight so far this morning, up to 10 deps an hour passenger wise
Bath Spa... Multiple freight, up to 12 deps an hour
BTM & Cardiff, don't really need to say anything

Thanks for that. I know a lot goes through places on the route, but my point was does it run along the route for a reasonable time? For example, doesn't most freight through Southampton head to/from Eastleigh?

    Again, RTT...
There's quite a few freighters that run out of Westbury that go up to Parkway and onto the midlands, there's also a three times daily round trip hauling containers from Southampton to Wentloog which would cover almost all of the route if built

Three and a half hours across the South West, through Bristol and then the Severn Tunnel...

That looks to be routed via Eastleigh, Basingstoke, Reading, Swindon. Think the southern end might be pretty bleak for freight without Eastleigh up to Basingstoke and the Romsey loop.

Spose... Same could be true of most rail in the UK I guess.

Don't think that's true at all. As I say, include lines into Eastleigh and things open up much more for freight. Salisbury, Basingstoke, Portsmouth triangle could be interesting but that's another thread I guess.

I live in Kent, barely any freight comes through Medway :)
