Absolutely massive for me, even if the time period is somewhat after my tenure in BR Provincial and Wales & West/ATW Controls. Now the question is, will the 153 feature the emergency coolant replenishment from the toilet header tank into the engine cooling system?! Though I will settle for decent sound and physics plus the assurance that Rivet are in no way, shape or form associated with this new build of traction.
It’s an encouraging route with 2 dmu’s, similar but different classes, also not linear. Of interest to me is that the drive is 45 minutes which is almost exactly the same as the upcoming Mildmay London Overground line which is 44 mins. But I don’t see anyone here complaining it’s too short?
The longest drive is 45 minutes, as I understand there are various branches and different runs to have a go at. Context is king.
You've answered your own question here. Mildmay Line is - without the two branches - a linear run with no variation apart from the PIS going westbound. This has numerous branch lines with various services and a mix of 'bus runs' and slightly faster runs towards the Valleys. I personally didn't complain about Mildmay but this is quite apples & oranges.
Not really if we’re talking a solitary drive session = 45 mins. Don’t forget Mildmay is through a very heavy urban scenery as well.
The route is DTG so i'd guess (hope) it would be them, although I wouldn't mind the 150/2 model being reused from WCL as it's quite a solid one.
I don't think length was the problem with the Mildmay line but you won't have full length services. That is certainly my feeling. Also as said this is more than one route.
Anyway I will buy both, this looks very interesting and has 2 DMU’s, whilst the scenery building of London with the views from raised sections looks amazing, though linear (which it is) and the 378 is completely new. Bravo to both devs.
yes I know that but I was just saying maximum drive length is still 45 minutes regardless of how many routes you say it has. If I reverse Mildmay it’s 1.5 hours and so on! Anyway very welcome.
Well it's the first Welsh route and not an almost identical London route connected to one we already have in game. Plus it's diesel rather than another variation on an electric all stations service. I have actually been slightly vocal about the fact at least one of the Valley Lines hasn't been modelled in its entirety, but as I said two new trains both of which have great scope to be used in future projects.
Personally what I like about short routes is being inmersed in being the drive and completing a service and driving back again. I may well be in the minority. This currently won't be possible on the new Mildmay line. The journey can be 20 mins or an hour, that for me is irrelevant.
Correct, the longest run is 45 minutes, there are other lines with different length drives also included. I feel your point has fallen flat on its face before the starting pistol even sounded.
A solitary drive session may be 45 minutes, but it will be possible to run multiple in a 'shift' without doing the same run multiple times.
The only caveat to that being whether the save game has been fixed to facilitate chaining, without losing objective data. Sorry for ping DTG Matt but I know you were flagging this with the programmer(s) a couple of months ago. Has any progress been made, please?
I feel 2 hours is a pretty good run too. Maybe getting a bit ahead of myself but I hope this is the start of longer routes for TSW. Above the 1 hour mark from start to end I mean. It will be a good test to see if people like that length of time on a route or if people will complain it’s too long. lol.
For a first shot at a ‘network’ style route, I reckon this is a solid effort, not even taking into account that it’s a new operator / license.. There’s three terminus stations, the busiest station in Wales (Cardiff Central, which will have all the new GWE layers (hopefully)), essentially four branches (two of which join) and two new second gen DMU’s (assuming the 150/2 has been rebuilt from scratch). This is gonna be an awesome little route!
Exactly my view of point. Short but complete routes are very much welcome. But half routes is not something i will support. Not talking about a mainline, which has to end somewhere in the middle. Its about routes have the last bit missing (Richmond in this case). Cuts like that is really not my cup of tea. If the ressources are a problem of a dev, they should go for a different route choice in my opinion, but at least enclosed or complete.
Then I would have made a massive mistake as I would never want a tumble dryer. Honestly, though, its why I can't stand trying to put stuff on here on my phone as the auto correction thing seems to think it knows the language better than I do!
It won't - that one is near Holyhead in North Wales (edit - "nearer to Holyhead", 20 miles away), this route is set around Cardiff in South Wales
Provided this is a proper Sprinter and not the evil imposter Sprinter Rivet created, then I'm very excited just by virtue of that alone. The 153 being included is the icing on the cake. I'll echo what others have been saying about the "network" nature of this route- it's very interesting in terms of variety and it'll be a great change of pace but... I'm just so disappointed it's only going as far as Radyr. I can't help but wonder if it would have been even better if one or all the TAM lines were included. I definitely think they should have at least gone to Pontypridd. That would have elevated what is likely already a great route to one of the best in the game.
Ha! Gotcha . The longest station name is actually Rhoose Cardiff International Airport. The station you refer o is officially known as Llanfairpwll or Lllanfairpwllgwyngyll (despite what the name on the sign says).
Is there any news on whether Heath High Level might be included in this route, given it's so close to Heath Low Level? this is the route i'm most looking forward to right now!
I wouldn't know sadly, but i'm sure a map will be posted in the future though (I know not the best answer )
I dont know the real network, only seen a network map. A "City Line" seems to end in Radyr. But two other lines via QueenSt go further. Exept the City line are there any other trains ending at this station? It feels like a half line for me similar to the new announced London Line ending in Willesden instead of Richmond. And would be ending trains at Pontypridd?
that's fair enough, thanks for the response! The route as is looks great in terms of scope, i'm just hoping Heath High Level will be included with it being 100m off the line and it just adds that extra level of service and immersion. really hoping for more updates on this early in the new year, it has so much potential to be one of the best routes in the game for me!
Looking at the map, Heath Low Level (station six) is present, but the High Level station is nowhere to be seen. This suggests to me that it won't be included, but hopefully I'm wrong.
There are quite a few end to end services I’m pretty sure. Also quite a lot of variety in terms of gameplay, two trains aswell.
You mean Llanfairpwll as is the station name as announced by the station announcements or llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch in full. This is in north wales on the Cardiff - Holyhead route. The route we are getting is part of the south wales valley lines route. So no It means St Mary's Church in the Hollow of the White Hazel near a Rapid Whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio near the Red Cave. If anyone’s interested.
To compare, below is a route map I edited from a route suggestion I made some time ago in this very region, except this features the run to Pontypridd and the three other branches that lead off from that. I do not believe there are terminating services at Pontypridd - they disappeared many decades ago. It's a significantly large station yet a ghost of its former self, with only two platforms left operating when it used to have seven. Half of the station was demolished and the other half once reduced to the whole thing operating as a single track in both directions in the 70s, but in the 90s a new platform 2 opposite the remaining original half was opened. AFAIK all traffic passing through is coming from or going to the Aberdare, Merthyr and Treherbert branches. While I do feel a loss of there not being at least one of the three branches featured, being that it was decided to focus on the local lines of Cardiff itself, I can see why Radyr was a sensible north point for that particular line since it is the convergence point for the city line loop. As for Radyr, no, I don't believe any trains via Queen Street end there. It is just the trains running the loop line.
While I haven't been grabbed by this route, I will be following progress as the 153 will be a nice addition to TSW. I will be keen to see if this 150/2 is better than the one that is in WCL.
As of April 2 trains an hour terminate at Pontypridd from Cardiff Bay, unfortunately its beyond the scope of this DLC
Wish that had been there when I was living in Merthyr up until 2012, would have been much easier changing services there than in Cardiff! I do recall changing services in Pontypridd a few times though for a direct run to Barry Island, though that was always one from one of the other branches.
ahh i forgot about this! That's really interesting, i guess as it stands Heath High Level won't be included.. but i hold out hope it could still be yet, as it's only around 100m past the current route, and i'm sure i read somewhere the recentl WCML South is getting a new station modelled so that it can be a starting point for freight services.. so i'll expect it to be missing but hold out hope Heath High Level could yet still be included!
First appeared in the Dovetails Direct, but was also in this week's Seasons of Reveals article (scroll down to the 11th of December). https://live.dovetailgames.com/live/train-sim-world/articles/article/season-of-reveals-2024-week-2
