New to this kind of thing and I am the type who normally keeps his head below the parapet, however I feel the need to add my two pence worth.
I have been crashed back to tsw5 home screen three times this evening, twice on the East Coast Mainline, which is a first for me and once on WCLM Southern in the Pendolino with graphics set to the absolute minimum, 720 dp, don't quote me on that one, technophobe with a poor memory.
Surely this cannot be a permanent state of affairs? or, is this something we need to become accustomed to?
Crash to home screen on ECML!
very disappointed the first time, but to happen again with reduced resolution, that is very poor indeed.
Just my thoughts on what until now has been a really enjoyable sim, I like it alot, all routes to be honest, regardless of developer and so on.
Anyway I shall sign off, feeling better for having had a tiny rant

TSW5 seems to be in a worse state than ever at the moment and certainly following recent updates.

Funny a few evenings ago I was actually contemplating I don't need TSC any more and kicking it off so I can use the 350Gb HD space for something else. Glad I didn't, 'cos if DTG can't sort this mess out then it's TSW in danger of getting binned recent purchases notwithstanding. Even WCMLoS, might be a great route but it's being absolutely mullered by the performance issues and sound distortion to the point of ruining the experience.

IMHO it's no good DTG trying to dazzle us with all these new reveals when the core game is on its knees.

I think the new map is resource hungry as it is the biggest difference from TSW4 when playing, and when the labels are showing it has a marked negative effect on frame rate. I always make sure the map is zoomed out so that labels aren’t present. The map is constantly running in the background so labels still affect performance even if you aren’t currently looking at the map, and I think when you close the map the labels are instantly reinstated even if you toggled them off when you had the map up, if you are zoomed in enough. They certainly reappear when you go back to the map. Whenever I experience low frame rates the first thing I do is check that the map is zoomed out. Whether the map also makes it more likely to crash is anyone’s guess but I reckon it could be. There may be other things going on.

I have an update, better news, managed to complete a Doncaster to Peterborough, with a scheduled stop at Newark , without any performance issues, I did however reduce resolution to 1080p, to be honest, I can barely see a difference in graphics quality between this reduced setting and the 4k ultra definition setting I usually use.
Not sure if this will work on the WCML South, using the Pendolino, I will try this later and see if I can actually get in to Euston, not holding out a lot of hope as it failed to complete yesterday using 720p yesterday.

I doubt it will work as I have the issue that whenever I spawn into a service at Euston, it crashes after 40 seconds. It however doesn't crash when I spawn on foot at Euston.

Mostly my performance based issues with WCML South occur when entering Euston station, I seem to get ejected at around 700 yards from the stopping position on the platform I am approaching, this happens when using the Pendolino.

Hey OldVern, I'm new here but have been enjoying some of your posts, thanks for the contributions. I just wanted to share my experience, as it seems TSW isn't the same for everyone. I'm on PC, which matters, obviously, since this is an Xbox thread. But on the PC, I've virtually had zero issues. I bought TSW back in the TSW2 days but never used it until TSW5 came out, so all my experience is in TSW5. I do have a powerful PC, but it was new over two years ago, so it's nothing crazy nowadays. But I'm not sure how much hardware plays an issue here. I'm no DTG fanboy or anything, I just see so many messages of complaints that I thought it was only fair to share one from the opposite side. It's truly bizarre to me how I don't see many bugs at all, and I have several DLC, and use most ways you can play, from scenarios to timetable services to training. To be fair, I do not create my own consists, so I have no idea how well that might work or not. Am I doing something different? Or just lucky? Or perhaps I'm not attentive or knowledgeable enough? I'm not quite sure, but I do have a great time in TSW, and hope the OP's issues are resolved.

Hey there jon, I just wanted to say welcome in, and also compliment you on coming back and sharing the couple of updates you did. I think often people post an issue, then subsequently get it resolved, but don't post about it, so it just looks like an outstanding issue, and others with the same issue don't get any insight on what it took to fix it. The information you shared will be useful to others, I'm sure. Thanks!

LOVE a hoop I am, ran the Pendolino from Milton Keynes to Euston without a hitch, resolution 1080p, dynamic weather and daytime, now comes the twist, I employed the tactic I use to complete Fulda to Frankfurt, namely, I do a free roam run , so consequently do not have any AI traffic, which will not suit everyone.
Because I am a simple type, for me this is not a problem, I just enjoy getting from point A to point B , marvelling at the changing scenery through the drivers window and shaking my head in disbelief at what games developer's can achieve these days.
One day, we may be able to utilise all the features on offer, until such time I think compromise and level of expectation are key to the game play experience

Love a hoop is not what I was trying to convey, needless to say, it's taken me a while to realise they ain't going to let me use the original quote, what a buffoon I am

Lol, yeah the forum profanity filter is certainly interesting.

"Walloper" is not filtered out though, so whoever programmed it obviously wasn't Scottish. :D

Twice since the update I've have Preston to Carlisle freeze up and crash to dashboard. Played it plenty before the update with no issues.

    Series S.

It's getting to the point that there's no point in me trying to drive a service because I know it'll probably crash. Making me not want to play anymore tbh.

Thank you all for your feedback, I know I am not alone when experiencing these issues.
I must say I was most surprised that I had problems with ECML, I had never had a crash to desktop on this route at all, either on TSW4 or TSW5 .
It's funny, I have no such events during sessions on Southern High-speed, which in my opinion is a much more feature rich route and you would think might be more prone to memory issues.
I have to say, I really enjoy Southern High-speed, to be honest, I enjoy most of the routes, oh well, I guess in my old age, I have become easily pleased.
