That would be the thing which would excite me the most, but there were questions about it in the recent survey. It would seem odd to ask questions about whether people wanted a given feature, fully in the knowledge they were about to release it regardless. I’m really hopeful that this sort of variation/randomisation will come in the future, but I don’t think it will be yet. Maybe with TSW6 next year.
I know that we got dissapointed very often in the past, but maybe this time will be a different story? What if there will be new discussions about the incredible announcement Dtg makes at Friday? Something thats so good, not even ambassadors get to know about it? Maybe something we all couldnt think of and we will be asking ourselfs how we could live without it?
Don’t think you have too much to fear, Matt. Had a more extensive go last night and while it’s quite fun and interesting, even making allowances for early access seems a bit flawed. Getting the loco set up and running definitely falls in the “expert” category but once moving there is very little traction sound. Big old Russian electric should be blasting out noise like the EU07 in SimRail or the Class 87 on WCMLoS, but all there seems to be is a slight mechanical sound and the track running. The track laying, at least on the first section, remains dire following the contour of the ground like Transport Fever rather than a proper gradient profile and I have a sneaking suspicion the physics are very simplified. After dropping off my consist there was no real clue as to what to do next, so after wandering aimlessly around the, admittedly nicely modelled station, returned to the loco on a hunch and got my next instruction over the radio. So suspect the train driving experience is really there to complement the survival or FPS elements which don’t concern me, rather than the primary focus of the game. Fair to say that most of these other games, whether Trans Siberian, SimRail, Derail Valley - even Run 8 to some extent - don’t quite scratch the itch after a while. Whatever the warts, I still tend to find myself drawn back to TSW (or TSC) as the best all round train sim experience.
After watching all the reveal videos last night I’m hoping the big reveal is that from 2025 they will actually look into the camera and not at some random person to their left.
"Whatever the warts, I still tend to find myself drawn back to TSW (or TSC) as the best all round train sim experience." Agree with you Vern, the Just Train routes take me right back to my time as a freight guard in the 1970,s and 80,s.
Tomorrow's going to be interesting in here, many with their current high expectations of this announcement, then we'll probably see replies of "is that it?", "what a let down", "after all that", "disappointed" etc. etc. The fume, oh the fume.....
I've enjoyed this little Christmas reveal series. There's something for most TSW fans. The 70's German route and the GWR revamp both look excellent. Obviously we all have our own wishlists for TSW and while I appreciate I'm into UK content and that's been well represented, but I hope the big one is either a Network South East route with slamdoor EMUs or the introduction of random events in Timetable mode in TSW5.
Athena Simulations - class 55 Deltic. There. I said it Some time ago they vaguely mentioned something else going on diesel wise for after 47 484, perhaps (?) classic and ECML-related. Go the whole hog? DTG have removed the OHLE from ECML, perhaps extended it, done a suitable HST reskin and we get an ECML legends pack. Merry Christmas everyone. Now I can wake up...
Highlight for me the JT reveal of the Class 86, Mark 2 “coffins” and of course the RMB. It will be hard for anything today or tomorrow to top that, though still hoping the big reveal is some substantial core updates or interesting new feature set.
Whilst weighing up the TSW year and pondering whilst on dog walks I have come up with the following view It will be a route. It will be UK It will be Eastern region Either Kings x to Peterborough. LTS /c2c or GEML. I look forward to being spectacularly wrong on all counts. Slam door NSE would be amazing and a model of the preserved 4-VEP No. 423417 Gordon Pettitt is my outside shout. Happy Christmas everyone.
All I can say is that the PR people of DTG do not eat their bread in vain - so they know how to catch up with the hype)))
You can only be disappointed if you are expecting more than is realistic. You create your own disappointment.
For me, speculating and imagining what the reveal could be is part of the fun. It’s exciting to think about the possibilities, and even if it turns out differently than I expect, I still look forward to discovering something new. Anticipation is half the adventure!
Sounds really fun and i like the idea of growing a traindriver with a lot of experience goals to reach.
Maybe a brand new announcement x3. One for UK, one DE and one US. May take the morning off to get some petrol and sharpen the pitch fork for the 2.05PM meltdown.
Be nice if "experience points" did anything in the game, but I don't see that happening. That'd require a lot of work and balancing. Lots of work for little added gameplay or more importantly additional sales.
Nah that'll be tomorrow on the "big day" the 20th. Although I predict fewer pitchforks and much more a tsunami of salt water.
So with the Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn route unveiled, I will now conclude the big reveal will be the Class 91 as the leak in the previous month or two suggested otherwise.
There is only one item from the november roadmap that hasn't been covered yet over the past few weeks. DE Loco - Simtrack studios. Could be our big reveal tomorrow..
You're most likely right. But I don't think DTG will do something older like 4-VEP. It's going to be modern all the way, because we don't have enough of those. /sarcasm off But really, I hope tomorrow's reveal is going to be something substantial, not a short UK route with one train and no substitutions. My guess is it's going to be return of US freight or steam.
Let's be honest, the big reveal will be as guff as the rest of it. Given the who-ha of this push for season of reveals, all they've effectively done is reveal stuff that has already been revealed. I was expecting something like "ticket to ride" in summer (or whatever it was called) and given news on new stuff.
New announcements have included confirming Mildmay Line (previously a placeholder in Nov Roadmap) and Class 86 from JT (again just a placeholder with some hints). They also announced the F59PHR which I don't think was referred to in any way in the November roadmap.
I don't think thats 'BIG' enough. If it is something like that then DTG will be shooting themselves in the foot. I really think it has to be something that is a complete off radar surprise or something that several people have been speculating and hoping for like a completely new route with a new loco or two.
I’m sticking to what I said at the start. TSW announced for IPhones / Android. Not really exciting stuff. Not for me anyway. OR: It’s a new Xmas style Route. I hope it’s neither but expectations will be kept low anyway.
Roblox is already for phones so its unlikely that they will bring that and UE doesnt work on phones or tablets
I Believe in my own opinion i think the grand reveal for tomorrow will be a new game feature that people have been waiting for and it will IN GAME Train Announcement cause the last time they have been talking about making a whole new system for in passenger station announcment which we as the railfans have waited so long for this integration. It could also be another game feature we have waited for which dispatcher mode or multiplayer mode coming in 2025, which will be really really amazing to see.
Announcements sounds cool! But... i will say a career game mode is for me an absolute highlight if they add that. So that you can use it as in real life with driving trains and preparing for service. And that you can save career points that will bring you in next and more complex things.
Sorry thats not what i mean! Career mode is more a cinematic way of taking the player in to the job. Not you choose a train and drive without further instructions. So to start you get in the office and sign youre contract and start youre first day and some one is introduce you to the trains and show you what you can expect and get a timetable via a tablet and run this trains that you have on the schedule on the tablet. This is a small example what i mean not 100% the story but as a small indication
Or even if it was just some nice way to visualise your "progress" now that TSW Tracker appears to have gone quiet.
Absolutely nobody has mentioned it could be the ability to share new timetables or formations to everyone no matter on what platform in the creation club section of the game, that could be a massive game changer for a lot of people on the console side of the fence.......
If anything the speculation threads have hopefully worked as a sort of informal focus group for DTG on what the community does and does not want to see in the future. In that sense the hype whether justified or not could serve a useful purpose down the line.
That actually sounds pretty fun but I would hope you could do this on any route you wanted and also got to pick what one you did rather than the game do it for you….
One of the more realistic suggestions, as Matt mentioned a ways back that it was being worked on (not on the roadmap though). I'd be very happy with that feature- it really adds a lot of immersion IMO. I'd say it qualifies as a big reveal for sure. If it's not that, how about a surprise release of Clinchfield remaster that Matt's been toiling away on? I'd be excited for it though maybe not enough general interest for the "big reveal" lol.
My rough count for the first 17 reveals is: UK. 7 ( 41% ) DE. 3 (18% ) US. 2 (12% ) Other. 5 (29% ) Can't say fairer than that, eh?
