Wow so glad I stopped subscribing to the whole TSW malarkey. So many confused and disgruntled players.

More a bit sad to be honest. There is a lot of confusion about what works with what.

TSW5 has a lot of issues.
WCML South (Eus - MKC) had a lot of services missing on launch, buggy signals, scenery missing and other things too.
Even after the latest update it doesn't run smoothly.
The 3D map causes game freezes and crashes, guard mode doesn't want to work on some routes and some traction and it's just generally badly optimised.
The suspension updates we were promised with TSW4 (launch feature that didn't actually feature at launch) still hasn't been applied to a lot of traction.
Dynamic weather is just pants. One minute bright sunshine, the next a huge downpour/thunderstorm or thick fog which suddenly just ends instead of fading out.

TSW5 could have been the best version of TSW yet with a lot of good features, but it felt rushed and half baked, especially with WCML south as a launch route which put a lot of people off upgrading (probably why DTG extended the time you could claim the free upgrade/starter pack from only 1 month to early next year).

Was a member for a while until I got flamed by the bearded one himself for speaking my mind.

Should probably rejoin as a “silent” member for the LOL’s.

As regards TSW5. Yes it is in a bit of a state. Performance is appalling and dragging everything down, even the flagship JT Shap route. What should be a great experience driving the 87 is ruined by constant stutters and sound squelching. TBH I don’t think at this stage they know how to fix it or are even employing much programming staff with the necessary skills. All we are getting is marketing fluff such as the pre Christmas reveals, most of which is content we already know about or rather mundane like the North London Line which only goes 75% of the way.

Earlier in the week I was looking at doing some HD triage and, shame on me, for a brief time contemplated uninstalling or downsizing my TSC install. Thankfully, better angels prevailed and really starting to feel ifDTG don’t buck their ideas up in the New Year, TSW might be going to the headsman.

Only humour is helping. The way DTG treats their customers is just appaling. It doesn't change, it's mathematically continuous degradation of the game content - still people have hope and "only can dream". Break what worked and just give them new stuff instead of fixes. We need more humour - and this is the TSC forums so it's ok.:)

If you look at that from an outside perspective you can either shake your head or laugh. Laughing harms noone, but selling broken stuff does.

I'm sort of glad they stopped TSC development because they can't break anything anymore here, simply rolling back undoes the last patches and DLC are not tied to a specific build of the game.

DTG should finally dump TSW after ten years of development with very small improvements after all, still broken passenger system, and make something new from the ground up before MS and Sony ban their console crashing spaghetti code games from their stores - which would be DTG's doom.

Outsource game core development to professionals and focus on making DLC only. Employ experienced coders. ViewApp are seemingly young fellas - no problem with that, until you read the Steam forums. Carmack and Romero were twens when making Doom starting from scratch, making their own game engine and editors - but they were driven by making something that's better than anyone had ever seen before, working around the clock because they were young, skilled and obsessed. And their work made them millionaires and spawned a series of widely licensed groundbreaking game engines. On top of that, few years after release Carmack released his source code to the public to let others make ports and keep on improving the games. Make your own Doom and Quake :)

Ken Silverman was 17 when he coded a rival engine, "BUILD", for Duke Nukem 3D, Carmack even supported him and gave him some tips. Kuju coded their own RailSimulator 3D engine in 2004 that still holds up today because of hardly any restrictions (we do have a terrain texture size limit, but there's foliage to cover that up) and being tailor made, many routes like AP's MML or Harznetz look better than anything in TSW.

Just get these trains right DTG.

I see it differently. It says to me that if you want to see a fractious, disappointed and at times delusional community then head for the TSW board. So we can feel smug about staying with TSC.

It is of course a huge generalisation, but as an example of ironic humour I think it works well.

    Matt: UE5 wouldn't change anything
Community: It would allow longer routes.

Lol. Somehow the "community" gets what it deserves methinks :D

It is clear to me that the existing DTG team are about making as much money as they can by churning our all of these sub DLCs and hoping to cash in on unforeseen dependencies. Playing catchup on all of these dependencies and errors will be challenging (if they ever catch up on them).

I said the same thing on my Youtube channel yesterday.... At this point it´s cashgrab city. Oh look, we´ve made this 12 mile route, give me money. Oh look, we´ve put this loco on another route with a timetable, give me money.

I just stick to TSW on my console ,its really not worthy to me to get TSW for PC..I have TSC 2024 and Trainz 19 and 22 on PC i like all 3 but TSW fustrates me the most ..due to the US freight lacking no new content or routes since Cajon, and the ever increasing issues in general gameplay TSW seems to be slipping its wheels backwards.

For now with respect to DTG product it would appear that TSC is the only solution for NA freight. Matt himself suggested that DTG are not ready to commit to improvements in this area any time soon.

As an avid TSW player for a long time, I can kinda see it ngl. Now that I've ordered my PC and bought a copy of TSC + SimRail, I think I'll be heading out the TSW grind for a little bit for "greener pastures" till they figure things out hopefully.
Sometimes, I genuinely feel like choosing Unreal Engine for a Train Simulator was a mistake.

I'm fully convinced UE was the wrong choice for multiple reasons, not only with Unity being much more developer friendly (but there was a huge controversy on licensing fees that was settled for good luckily).

As TSW is hardly using shadow casting light sources (loco headlights only), it misses the main point of what UE is about, realistic lighting. It's not looking like UE (Play Life is Strange, which is using UE3 and looks so much more real.)

I mean look at this (Preston). There's no proper Ambient Occlusion here, this looks horribly "unreal". It's not even looking like scenery from Quake 3 (1999) or derivates like Call of Duty 1 or Return to Castle Wolfenstein (which still looks awesome imho due to using excellent lightmaps. Even the AI characters look more believable than the strange TSW people, which to me are in Uncanny Valley for some reason).

Welcome to TSC. Once you have what you need you will find TSC graphics are pretty good. You may need to modify things to get what you want, however, you are in good hands here.

Well that's looking good - no improvement possible there imho. No comparison with Preston station.

    They didn't make it though.
One guy did in his freetime.
They just sell it for him.

TSW is slowly evolving into TSC, where the third parties do most of the content.
Just with a different engine and console support.
    *shrugs*
The TSC/TSW back and forth reminds me of the Marines and Navy teasing each other in the service, but they ended up riding on the same boat.

I don't think that's true. There are core functionality limitations, but these are stable and generally well understood. There's nothing I would call game breaking.

I mean it crashes just as often randomly like TSW and has the same stutters, but otherwise TSC seems pretty stable. Then again for me TSW is stable too. *shrugs*

TSC hasn't ever crashed on me but then neither had TSW, I don't get micro stutters on TSC (ever since swapping to an M.2 Nvme) but I do on TSW, I'm not saying you don't have issues with TSC but it's not because of TSC it's because of faulty assets or WS content in your install.

There are a fair amount of core bugs - probably the same or more than TSW...

  34. Spikee1975

    Spikee1975 Guest

Not true. If TSC crashes, it's content and rubbish xml. A real bug is the Workshop subscription queue, but there's a workaround.

The whole point here is in TSW you are depending on what DTG does, in TSC not. It's largely community driven, and if I install a loco I can be sure the AFB ain't broken in the next patch. They said the EMK DB Class 66 would have its weak headlight flares fixed. Have you actually checked that? They just disappear moving a few feet away from the loco. And there's nothing anyone can do. The Class 350 now has the DRA and VCB switches permanently glowing. Broken what was working before. In TSW you gotta eat what DTG serve you, and each patch reliably breaks something. (Noticed GSMR headcodes on EMK? They are not matching anymore, and so on.) Check the TSW Troubleshooting forums. In TSC not. The core is stable, works as expected, and you don't need anything from DTG to enhance your experience. AP has continued developing features with good results.

Now with Liam stating "no more remasters" you're stuck with old routes and their issues. Bescot can add scenery, but no one can do a remaster as DTG would need to share the source files. Not in TSC. There's no need to play all the vintage DTG routes because they've mostly been redone by the community.

The TSW community don't get it, still remaster and extension speculations are continuing. That's a bit of comedy, seeing people raise expectations, also route length discussions, by themselves just to head for inevitable disappointment. You can't stop them, just watch the whole drama. Even more funny as TSW isn't a new game where you'd expect all these shortcomings. It's fairly old itself, with almost ten years in development now. And then people talk if train X really arrived at station Y at time Z. No one cares, this game is aimed at console players, and 99% of players don't know the routes themselves. You don't want reality, you want entertainment.

I mean, good luck with your bug database maintenance. Just as a note, DTG have that themselves, called Jira. It only needs people filing support tickets, not posting on the forums only, where everyone creates their own feedback threads, making the forums useless and everything gets lost in the mess.

    Hi *shrugs*,
I don't find TSC crashes very much - its usually a third party item that causes it.
Most of the time it is very good

My TSC doesn't have stutters and audio cut-outs / squelching. Give up boys, you can't bring us down to TSW frustration level. Enjoy your "free walking" world with invisible walls and off map traps. :D

Compare the rants and bug reports on both forums and tsw is clearly in the lead, miles ahead actually.
I like tsw, I probably play it more than tsc! But when I want to go hard-core and drive 100s of miles in a single train or complete mind boggling freight runs. You can never beat tsc.
There's plenty of problems with both sims straight out the box, but with tsc I know they can be fixed. Whereas tsw on the other hand, I know they'll never be fixed.

There are more bugs than crashes and corrupt Workshop downloads! Did they ever fix the sliding trains, for instance?
This is DTG breaking their own content and not evidence of core bugs.
He's been quite clear that he didn't say that.

    Lol, you don't give up.

Comparing non-functional features and broken systems due to patches with a glitch that has your loco creeping very slowly not affecting gameplay in any kind is fairly ridiculous. Especially as it doesn't effect stationary stock, only player controlled.

Try a little harder to make us feel bad about our game! (You can't win, just so you know. I happen to know the TSC engine very well btw.)

Your praised "timetable" has trains stuck in a queue all over the place, better go file some reports over there and "live in hope".

I think your TSW database is utterly poor, in no way reflects the issues people are having and needs updating, so don't waste your time trying to point out TSC issues here.

Enjoy TSW, that's what it's for, and let us enjoy the forums and its comical sides.

To be fair, the expectations are a lot lower for TSC and there's no console players. Those are what creates most of the issues for TSW.
But then...that's how TSW was marketed and who it was marketed to.

  41. Spikee1975

Lower. Yes short routes and lack of stock. Road traffic without headlight beams at night.

I've got the dutch network in TSC and all modern and historical stock. I'm afraid with Spoorlijnen Zwolle - Groningen they took the most boring but easiest to build part. I couldn't help myself but to think this when checking that route section in TSC. It's almost a straight line without any curves only.

The Netherlands offer a lot of very beautiful and scenic routes. Just not that part.

The only consolation is that for the first time in a long time they're making more than one brand new train for a route. Whether the trains turn out to be good or not remains to be seen.

What you have completely ignored is that the TSC bug is a core issue and you have no proof that the TSW bugs are.
I'm not sure what the relevance of timetable mode having bugs is.
My intent with the database was not to exonerate DTG and I do not claim it is anywhere near complete; you are more than welcome to post any missing bugs in its thread.

Lower? I play both games and my expectations for tsw are a lot lower than tsc. Apart from the shiny graphics and ability to walk around on tsw, I would say tsc is the better sim out of both.

I can hop in a train at Brighton and drive it all the way to Luton and I'm pretty sure you can drive the entire wcml or most of it. And plenty of other merged or extended routes. Thers so much content available I'll never get thru it all in my lifetime.
My expectations of getting the same on tsw are low to none.

I'm guessing that although tsw is on console with a much larger player base. A large chunk of that player base's expectations aren't that high.

You don't get much complaints for tsc because there's not a lot to complain about. And why complain, when the problems you might encounter, can easily be corrected in the editor.

I can beg dtg for route extensions on the tsw forum or open up tsc and make my own.

Most of the errors these days in TSC are self inflicted. Some workshop content can add to potential errors. TSC is like a puzzle. If you are expecting 'out-of-the-box' simulation then TSW is most likely a better choice. Steam/DTG provides a great backstop - if you have errors from this content then verifying files is a good option. Once you open up Pandora's Box and start to enjoy 3rd party content then starts the journey of understanding how to fine tune/fix things which may occur by not following exact instructions. THIS is what I enjoy most about TSC. It is a journey, an intriguing hobby and an exercise in following logic to ensure that everything is working as intended. I personally spend more time fixing things due to lack of understanding or chasing down missing assets. What great fun!

Nope, luck has nothing to do with it, it's about content and file management, if you install 3rd party content correctly whilst having an understanding of the file structure then you're never likely to go wrong with TSC.

I have Steam Workshop content but never ever use the content via the workshop other than obtaining the initial download, I install reskins properly making sure all .geoPcDx's are copied over correctly and into the right places, and I never rely on .rwp installations preferring to open them with 7zip and manually placing them instead.

You keep bringing up "TSC bugs" but unless you're prepared to list them with proof that everyone here suffers these issues then I'm sorry you're just blowing smoke, please enlighten us as to what the problems are.
