Anyone got anything in the rather poor playstation store Christmas sales? Was hoping for a reduction on the American route pack with cane creek, sherman and cajon pass but alas no, they were on sale individually black friday sale but no luck with pack , It's been on sale before, someone is greedy then!
They probably didn't think it appropriate to put the pack containing Sherman Hill in the sale considering it is being given away for free this afternoon. It will work out cheaper claiming the free one and buying the other 2 when they are next on sale, rather than buying the pack.
It was quite a good sale for me. Picked up Lirr Commuter using Points. Bought the M3 (full price) which gave me enough points for another voucher letting me purchase NY Trenton for just CHF 2.18.
I don't think it's a poor sale at all. I am also considering picking up LIRR Commuter and NEC Trenton New York later today. The former got good reviews, and NEC, though less stellar, is only a little over € 7 right now.
Can yous really complain when you’re getting a free addon and you always get sales way earlier than Xbox
The news post said there would be 80% off the Glossop Line, but sadly no discount seems to have materialised on the UK PSN store. Happy to claim the free route though! And I think I will complete my steam collection with the reductions on Peak Forest and WCL Steam Railtour.
I got Sherman Hill as it was free, I have it on TSW3 too. I did a short run with two SD40-2 engines on an oil train. The independent brake was not working, also had problems with the train brakes. I set the cutout valve to freight, banking comes on,I think that's right.
What vouchers are you referring to? The PS points? How do you even get those? Is it country specific?
It’s the PlayStation Stars service, it’s free to join. When you complete campaigns, buy games/DLCs, game’s subscription, you earn points you can convert as a voucher or you can buy the games that are proposed. It’s available in many countries in Europe, Asia, Oceania and both Americas. Check in your PSN account if your eligible.
As Myg92 already answered, it’s the PlayStation stars. I didn’t notice it for a long time so had managed to build up a decent number of points which I’d wrongly assumed were just for useless rewards. It was only a couple of months ago that I noticed you could exchange them for vouchers, so I swapped them all and used them to pick up a few things in sales. There are also challenges to do which can earn a few extra points. Definitely worth checking out. That’s 3 DLCs I’ve got from it now. All US routes that I wouldn’t normally buy.
lol, wish I’d known about this prior to having purchased 5 DLCs yesterday . Though are they included? Rubric seems to say once you buy X full games
You get points for buying add ons aswell. You can get extra points by buying specific games they list in the campaigns section but it isn't necessary, you still get a flat amount of points with every amount of money you spend regardless.
Glossop for 4 quid is a bargain. It's actually a very well crafted route, runs v smooth as well. Has a very nice immersive feel about it.
Hi Matt Thanks, this was two SD40-2 locos coupled together. I will see if I can find that valve . I hope the BIG BOY loco is coming along nicely
Is it actually available at this price somewhere/somehow? I would definitely buy it at this price but it shows no discount in the Playstation store
£15 for the German route set in the 90s , Mainz - Koblenz. Looks like a scenic route, and slightly retro trains.
Very scenic with interesting rolling stock. The 103 is a contender for the German loco (alongside perhaps the V200 or Br 01) and is overall nicely done. The 110 is also iconic but the brakes are not flawlessly realised in TSW (not necessarily game-breakingly bad, but not prototypical either). Tap-changers, both of them. The cab car (Karlsruher Kopf or KaKo for short in German) is one of the best in TSW - it’s noisy and rattles unlike the dead silent DoSto cab cars. Lovely brake squeal you can her from the the cab car cab. The drawback is the lack of variety in rolling stock. The colourful 90s are only represented by a single color scheme in TSW and the list of missing rolling stock is endless (including the complete absence of an appropriate freight loco). Owning Niddertalbahn helps a bit by layering the 628 in on the Mainz end. Some have heavily criticised the scenery of the route but it looks fine to me. I’d say it’s more than worth it at that price, especially for those interested in vintage routes.
A lot. Go to the PS store and search for train sim world. Then to add ons. List is here too https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/playstation-january-sale-now-on.87913/#post-945892
Is MML any good? it's 50% off now. Or GWE is 50% off. Edit: I found Lamplight MML one year on thread, will read through that first.
I got MML last year, after the remaster. Before it was apparently not very good, now it is. Good addition for it are the cargo line packs.
Haven’t been on the forums for the past few days and was pretty chuffed to find out about this sale! Judging by PSPrices, around 50 add-ons are discounted, many of them by over 50%. This is exactly what I like… I still remember the days where only a handful of routes were discounted by 30% at most. Regarding the items on sale, there’s tons of stuff that’s been on my “buy when discounted list”… London Overground Goblin Line is the big one here. I’ve been interested in this one for a while because it places a huge emphasis on scenery and general quality/polish. You also essentially get two routes in one with the WCML Lioness layering. Will very likely go for this one. Peak Forest - would really like to get this one for the West Somerset steam timetable, but I feel like they could discount it by even more considering it doesn’t seem to be a very popular route. 14€ still seems a bit much, considering I’d mainly buy it for the WSR layer. Some other routes/packs like Midland Mainline, Bremen-Oldenburg, Luzern-Sursee & ScotRail 158 would also need a bit more of a discount to become interesting. These add-ons all have shortcomings (e.g. lacking service length/quality/variety or simply a normal price that is way too high) that need to be counted by at least a 70% discount to become interesting for me as a buyer. NEC New York is very cheap with 80% off (and not even the first time that happened, I believe), but considering almost nobody seems to be recommending this route with all of its remaining performance/timetable problems, I don’t think I can get myself excited for it. I always love when sales bring add-ons onto my radar that I haven’t considered before. Just 3€ for the ROG Class 37, which layers onto quite a lot of routes with its interesting multiple unit stock transfer services and also includes a new Electrostar livery, seems like a great deal. The free Sherman Hill pack is also great! From what I’ve heard, it’s one of the better freight routes in the game, so I’ll gladly give it a try even though I’m usually more of a passenger service player. It also adds AI and static stock to quite a few of the routes I own, so downloading it will be worth it already because it populate the big LA freight yard on San Bernardino Line. To finish things off, looking at my existing add-on collection, here are a few DLCs I’d recommend at their current discounted price: Rapid Transit, West Somerset Railway, Dresden-Riesa, Cathcart Circle, Linke Rheinstrecke and Blackpool Branches (highest discount on PS for it ever I believe!), P.S.: I hope they give us an 80-90% discount on the Expert 101 in a few years’ time so all the normal players who just want the IC cab car can finally afford it
Yeah - it's a bit odd - not sure what is going on. Shows I'm level and have done the December campaign, but nothing re the purchase
I've found MML is good value at the current sale price - especially if you play lots of ECML like me. The 158s add some nice service variety and AI. Saw in the MML update notes that they are using BPO stock for static stock. Considering getting it for that, but not sure at the current price. Similarly considering SOS and PFR for layering as AI rail tours on various routes. Not sure which of them is the best to get though - and I'm not interested in driving the trains myself.
If you play wcml North, spirit of steam is one of the essential dlcs for the bulk of the kingsmoor and steamtown layers, plus there's more than a few ai railtours on there.
In my experience, PFR runs a bit smoother than SOS. Not much difference for me though, as I am not a big fan of steam. Are they both on sale? BPO is one of the best routes in the game, so get it and drive it for it's own sake. The layering is just a bonus. Btw it also layers the Pacer onto Preston-Carlisle.
The amount of games and dlc's I've got using the ps stars vouchers is unreal. Hope they never get rid of it
Knowing how cheeky are Sony right now and because PlayStation Stars is working too well for them, I’m not surprised if they remove it. It’s already been nerfed, there use to be a 25€ card to exchange for 5000 and a 10€ card for 2500 points but for some reason they removed it. Only the 5 quid remains (for the moment) for 1250 points and you can still exchange it four times but you have to retry many times as an error mess
Don't you love it when a forum thread with such a negative title, that starts with a rant, turns into a normal and constructive discussion about what to get in the sale?
Playstation stars hmmmm , I've not heard of that, can you get stars for past purchases? Seems to be free... Dang
I will probably be picking up blackpool branches and wcml especially if the former is at reduced price.
