Most people have heard of Mattel, a large amount of people know Thomas the Tank Engine. How many know TSW? There is no harm hitching your wagon to two well known names/products. Short term you may not have got your long route you desired, but long term this deal may facilitate that long route and more. The big problem is expectations and then you have the click baiters driving up their click count up by predicting something they know nothing about and you fall for it. I didn't expect anything, what came out came out, I only hoped we got a few UK routes.

warpshell Thanks for schooling me. I´ve been in this franchise for over ten years, have done several freeware projects on TSC. I don´t need to keep hearing the same old talking points from TSW players on these forums. You all sound like company spokesmen or community ambassadors to me. That´s why I´m over and out with this franchise. It´s toxic and there is gaslighting going on all over these forums. We are the problem, we have issues, we are ungrateful and so on. Im tired of beeing run down by fanboys, AI bots, secret company accounts or whatever they are. So, good riddiance.

    It's not. It's absolutely hilarious.

When I read the announcement I went "Oh ok" and then got on with my life. If your biggest issue in life is an optional DLC for a video game, I'd be more than happy to swap.

My only opinion is perhaps it would've been better as a separate title rather than a DLC, mostly from a branding perspective, even if it used TSW as a base.

You're welcome for the schooling, anytime I can help. With regards to fanboys running you down and the forum being toxic, I am sorry to hear that, it sounds like you have had enough long before I typed anything. If it makes you that unhappy then walk away, it is not worth being unhappy.

A few members on here would take offence at the insinuation they were ever a child, which is likely where the outrage on the forum partly stems.

Doesn't it kind of break the canon though being set on WSR?
I thought engines only have faces on Sodor and lose them when they go onto the mainland, or is that a thing only in the books?

I have to admit I feel the same, a lot of people on here think they hold some superiority complex over us regular folk and love to lay down the law, just because their life’s evolve around this public forum. I had to take a step back too as I find this website too toxic at times. I normally only return now for the new content. That new content hasn’t gone down well with others, see what I mean by toxic? 20 days worth of content and everyone’s main focus now is Thomas.

Hope you have a good Xmas. Cheers.

    So much drama again.

It is strange that when you pose an alternative point of view, you suddenly become a fanboy, bot, company spokesperson, enabler!

Strange thing is, as a youngster I don’t really remember being made aware of Thomas.

    Ivor The Engine, yes.

Noddy and the Toyland railway, yes.

A book I can never remember the author or title of but which featured a branch line worked by a steam loco driven by a character who *might* have been called Olly Took.

    Various Ladybird railway books.

The Model Railway Men books by Ray Pope.

Going to the big department stores before Christmas and seeing the model railway on display, then getting a clockwork train set after drooling over the Triang catalogue.

The treat of a train ride from Newcastle to Tynemouth or Whitley Bay, out via Percy Main return via Backworth when the line was still worked by DMU’s.

    But never Thomas…

I remember I had some sort of Thomas the Tank board game as a kid, it was a bit like snakes & ladders, can't remember who gave it to me

Thomas & Friends is my entire life. Its the reason I'm into trains, and the reason I'm in my current job.

All DTG have done by including Thomas in TSW (which I wouldn't be playing if Thomas didn't spark that interest), is really just a reminder that one fictional tank engine is the reason I'm where I am today. So no, they haven't lost their mind, just reminded me of that.

As a little girl, I adored him even to the point of now having an unused bar of soap from many, many years ago in the shape of Thomas.

Although, he isn't my favourite (that honour goes to Percy and Gordon).

So, you won't buy the DLC then :) Gordon is like an 8F, but not sure is Percy Thomas size?

I grew up with him too and still have the LP's with Ringo Starr reading the stories. I still have most of the books. Thomas was a huge reason I got into trains and I am sure that is true of many people. This is quite a canny move by DTG I imagine.

Probably a lot at DTG probably grew up with Thomas and it is probably the reason why we have TSW?

I was brought up on the books. I’ve never seen the TV Show. Another very loose connection I have to Thomas is that the daughter of Rev W Audrey goes to the church in my hometown in the UK and we have sung in the same choir. Never got to meet the man himself though.

From what I have read about him by those who knew him, he would not be that happy about the commercialisation of Thomas. I believe he started writing the stories to read at bedtime to his children.

Awdry didn't even like the direction the TV series was heading in by Series 3. If he didn't die in '97, he would've done by now because of it.

Yeah he spoke out against Series 3 for its lack of authenticity regarding railway practice (I'm not sure how bricking a train inside a tunnel because it's scared of the rain fits into that but nevermind),particularly in the episode Henry's Forest.

Should we change the title of this thread to "so the tsw community finally gave up and lost their minds", as we're meant to be in the festive joyous season of Christmas but on here, we are bickering like hell some more than others. Now personally I don't think the new Thomas DLC is the end of DTG or TSW as it's just a DLC that it's a optional addon if you want it . For me personally who grew up with the end of the model era and rise of the imo garbage CGI era I think it makes sense that eventually we were going to get some sort of Thomas and Friends DLC as many have stated, the show and all its media brought some of us into this hobby. Do I think DTG have done its announcement the right way imo no (though there is no definitive right way). As I feel with all the bugs and other issues with TSW5's butchered release and issues that have aroused during the season of reveals they should've put this announcement off to possibly the new year. As setting this up to be the big reveal at a time your fanbase is divided is really a bad idea. As so many people were hoping for the big reveal to be something game changing or something that resonates more with them like for me I wanted the announcement of the GWE remaster becoming an extension, a new rush hour bundle or the return of steam which we've partially got. Also many people wanted more info from these reveals as most of the stuff was already known to us due to the previous roadmap and there wasn't a lot of details revealed that caused us to go crazy bar of course maybe two or three, class 86 and the European routes.
Now for the premise of the DLC it should've been a fictional route from the Isle of Sodor without a weird heritage railway story for the whole thing as while I can understand it's appeal to some people with regards to day out with Thomas the way they've done it in the most cheapskate way (no offense just my opinion) just as a cash grab which I think will fail. As with how complicated it is to drive steam even if the physics were fixed for young children, it would be to hard for them to drive any of the stock. I would've just released this as DLC to the TSW tycoon on roblox as that would bring more people into the TSW franchise without angering die hard haters, loyalists and the like.

How you are on the internet compared to in person is different. That goes for everyone with a digital footprint.
Absolutely no need for the insults.
Find someone, in person, and tell them they're crazy and twisted and should seek therapy because there's something majorly wrong with them. Oh, wait, you won't, because there's no safety net.

I have deleted the post and I apologize. I got a burr under my saddle and let off a snorter without thinking, which is most unlike me.

I do get tired of the negativity in here,. but that's no reason to add to it. Again, I apologize

Gordon is a Gresley A1 rebuilt to an A3. Pecy is an Avonside 0-4-0ST, so much smaller, about half the weight, than Thomas (an LB&SCR E2)

I bet they don't delete their post insulting you tho, trust me you probably nailed their personality to a tee, and they can't handle that, that's why they had to retort mud slinging back at you, I will be very surprised if they do, and pleasantly surprised at that, humanity just might be savable.......

Thank you for clearing that up. Wasn't the community asking for a tank engine, maybe they weren't clear as to which tank engine they wanted, so they got Thomas ha ha :)

The "same old talking points" are what's called "the truth."
You just don't like to hear it.
    That's fine.
You can not listen to the truth.
Not sure why you have such a persecution complex, but if the whole "world" seems out to get you, it might not be the world.
It may just be your misunderstanding of the world.
In reality the universe doesn't give a care about you personally.
If you're "over with this franchise" then you won't be posting here right?

    Sorry for my late answer..

Good idea. But now seriously yea the real problem behind all this is we expect to much from DTG and yea with sodor
Would that still make sense but so well.. and yes the opinions are extremely different here
Every opinion counts whether you like it or not. Hate is well a hard way to say you opinion but all here have the freedom of speech don’t matter how but try to be friendly

So to make that clear again, I don't mean it's bad or toxic, but it's true so unexpected. (Personally I have waited for other announcements and well not for something like that and well that applies to everyone here) of course it is something new but but so damn surprising I am as mentioned I and many others are not fans of such things.
And no, that doesn't mean that DTG only has to address a certain customer, but well, you should weigh up what the majority wants.

How have we gone from such positiveness after Preston - Carlisle to such negativeness about an announcement for a small release. I get some disappointment that it didn't live up to expectations but the whole "TSW is going down the drain" rhetoric is a bit far fetched.
A bit like after the runaway elf add-on, if I remember right, that got some criticism and people said things about it becoming a game rather than a simulation but looks at what has released since. Some of the best routes ever and more features. How long has guard mode been a suggested idea? And now we have it. Longer routes, more services, more layers.

You can say this announcement was big because no one really saw it coming. At least it's not TSW 6. We've got about half a year before that yet :)

It is just a joke. (Yea sadly I want tsw 6 sh#t DTG) ok joke to side yea unfortunately But it's also interesting to see how the public ticks I mean of course I was hoping that finally will announce what the loco DLC of simtrack is but well that will probably take some time and second part yes that with Tom and his friends true really so unexpected that not even I had words (up to openings of the hub)

Have you counted all the "public statements" to see which point of view is more popular?

What do the majority or TSW users want and even potential new customers?

Due to lack of time this was done roughly but what I got with true more than just negative.

Of course, there were also positive things on the other side of the community, but it has been way too much to make it in time at the moment.
