The first shots of the fourth Cargo Line have now been released and the pack is nearing the end of development - here's what we have so far: Personally I'm quite looking forward to this. Something very different and the teasers are looking promising!
the quality on that looks very high. of course a type of cargo not seen very often and I wonder how it'll play into timetable mode as not many places have a "daily or weekly military train" so I'd like to see them being on special months only. but there are actually a lot of routes with military bases that do run those trains. I'm not well known about the UK but just outside of Freilassing up the branch from Salzburg Containerhafen, on the upcoming Dutch and Mannheim route too. and probably more I'm not aware of. I think skyhook are doing great work adding on to the freight railscene. I'd love for them to one day revisit the state of the 187 and maybe make some mainland EU cargo packs.
Can't wait for this pack! I am intrigued as to why they're making vol. 3 and 4 at seemingly the same time.. will they both be released at the same time? Anyway, I can't wait for this pack especially.. I do wonder what the services will be like and what routes it will go on; with the fact it's an abnormal load and definitely not something that would run frequently...
Can't believe we got tanks in TSW before the Class 55. I haven't been the biggest fan of the Cargo Line packs but this has peaked my interest!
There's more places to use cargo cars than there are 55s in the game. Rolling stock is everywhere. I can't even point to a single existing route that the 55 could go on that people won't howl it's "not accurate."
Looks like an M113 in the last one, not sure why that's on UK rails but on the 2nd it's gotta be an excavator and in the 3rd it's some kind of 6x6 truck? Not sure which model.
I can. NTP doing York-Liverpool or a late evening parcels train would be a perfect fit, or as oakleymoss#1362 says a ECML railtour pack but then we've got a Brunswick green GWR machine coming for that???
Seems very limited for a full release. I get it you guys want it bad and they did make what... 20 of them? But it's gotta really sell something else at this point. What else do you sell with the 55?
I'd take it, limited or not. And I accept personal bias and affinity when I say that. What was Flying Scotsman then? That was limited, but excepted (physics apart). They were 22 in total, 23 if you include DP1. The fact that these 22 locos replaced 35 A4's should be enough, just as fewer HST sets replaced them. Their engines were a mechanical marvel, originally a MTB naval engine developed from I believe a Heinkel idea. And they had two of them!! To hear one at full song is a thing of sheer delight, akin to hearing a merlin or a griffon, unique but fitting. I could go on ad infinitum to be honest.
I think people would "take" almost anything, but it just needs more to warrant a full release (and the development that goes into that) Not that people wouldn't "take" it... but other things are higher priority. Maybe a "loco pack" or as part of a new route, but on it's own.... that's something a dedicated, passionate developer could do for fun but not something a for profit studio would do.
Yes certainly as I got older and understood the beauty, as a youngster these were a very unpleasant sound as they were my alarm clock for school! I must admit I am shocked we haven't seen a Deltic in the game yet, true icons of the greatest mainline railway line in the world!
Yeah, Deltics are that unimportant that they remain one of the icons of the railways years after their retirement.
which actually doesn't make any sense as 47484 never ran on the ECML in her brunswick green + whilst she is preserved, she's in a poor state and has never ran in preservation (Credit - @Rail_Phottor on Twitter, photo taken in 2020)
I get all my tank action playing War Thunder, so probably won't be buying volume 4. It does look really well modelled, just not something I'll be grabbing. I've never seen a Deltic up close, but they do look really cool... Like a class 37 that spent the afternoon in Greggs.
It looks like Gustav/Dora? For K4 it would be a bit to big. Perhaps a Mastery achievement will be that we can drive the Warrior IFV like the Jeep from the Holiday Express.
It always made me chuckle going past the BK Drive Thu in Swindon, and seeing a mini tank waiting in line.
Yeah I remember something about that, wasn't it a pink tank and they used it as their everyday vehicle of choice.......
Oh no it was an actual tank! The local TA Centre, back when they stored that kind of thing there, would take them out. I’m not as adept at identifying military stuff as others, but the times I had to do a double take as I sailed past on the bus, it was almost identical to the vehicles in the photos further up the thread.
The Spruce Goose was "iconic" despite never doing much beyond being a prototype. Avro Arrow, TSR... lots of vehicles that didn't really have much impact in reality but were interesting to a few hobbyists. I stand by the statement that there's more routes for cargo to realistically run on than Deltics, since the whole issue isn't the 55, it's whether it's worth developing cargo packs. Which yes. Yes it is. And they're third party, so no it's not taking DTG resources at all. If you want a 55, get a third party to do it as a passion project. Maybe Athena could do it after the Class 47.
The Deltics had a very important impact though and were the face of the ECML for the majority of their career. Of course there are more routes for freight to run on, most lines in the country have freight run on them, but that has nothing to do with something being iconic. Has anyone ever called a Ford Fiesta iconic, not in all my years, yet I see many more of them than I do E-Types, which many people would say are iconic and I'd agree. For many, many people when you think ECML you think Deltic, that for me makes them incredibly iconic.
Well the whole Deltic thing... is not honestly relevant to be honest. The statement was that more cargo packs were more useful because they'd run on almost EVERY route, whereas making a Deltic would be a very limited application. That's just demonstrably true. They ran on a relatively limited area and had a small number over a limited time period, not least of which because they aren't in a period where there are ANY DTG routes do they? Name a UK route that's between 1962 and 1982. Zero. The two close-ish ones (SOS and PFR) I don't think the 55's ran on did they? It's not an argument about the historical significance of the 55 or how "iconic" it was. it was about how useful it would be in game. Which is... not very. A cargo pack is VERY useful. So when people argue the time "better used" to make a 55.... I push back because that's just not true. At best you'd have a one-off loco for railtours that many on the forum would moan about aren't "historically accurate." And that's the BEST case scenario. If you want the 55 in game.... don't just keep chanting "We need a Deltic! We need a Deltic!" Instead say.... "Here's how we could use it in game...." Make it a decent suggestion with a reasonable rationale. A loco with no route to run on would just be silly and would not sell well. That would HURT your cause. But by all means, keep pretending I'm somehow biased one way or the other on the 55 as some sort of big conspiracy. No, I honestly don't care either way. It's... meh.... but I'm not opposed to it. It just needs to make sense in TSW. That's what I said, and that's how it relates to the point of this post. Cargo packs are a good use of resources, sell well and add a lot to the game. Without a plan to implement and use it, a 55 project would be a misguided, bad use of resources.
Agreed- backdate the ECML route to the 60s, extend it to York (heck, also add the branch to Leeds for variety), and include a Deltic together with Mk2s in blue and the usual BR era freight stock.. Take my money.
As I remember the only reason the Deltics are being discussed in this thread about freight is because someone, jokingly (at least that's how it came a cross to me) said that they and then you seemed to not only focus on a different point to what had been, jokingly, made above but bring up the whole routes for the Deltics not existing, point. That in itself is a bit of an unrelevant point as I would expect a Deltic to come with a 70s ECML route rather than a single Loco DLC anyway, but there we are. See below for your precious evidence. I think I said something similar the other day, but there weren't an argument at all before you instigated one with the post I quote above, and I don't see anyone saying a cargo pack isn't desirable, in fact I think most on this thread agree they are good for TSW. As I said in a post the other day, people can have opinions which have absolutely no justification, but there is nothing that can be done to change that, an argument is rarely needed, when a discussion can take place. Much more civil, which is surely what we all want over Christmas. On that note, I suggest that this thread continues to do what the title says, though as always if you feel you want to respond feel free to do so privately and I'll be happy to have a discussion there, otherwise I think, for the benefit of everyone, this thread stays on Cargo line volume 4, that is until the next, inevitable, tangent of course.
Well it was a joking comment and as jokes are based on some reality..that reality being that people often harp uncessantly on the 55 in every thread. So it was making fun of that weird obsession. Then people get offended because they apparently don't see it as an obsession and took it personal. However, there was the other half of it.... go fit it. Suggest something that's not ridiculous. Package it with something else. Give them a reason to bring it into game. For example, if someone had gone to DTG and said "Hey we need battle tanks in TSW" they'd be laughed at. However, if they say "here's a pack of rolling stock that has a theme and can be used on any route" suddenly it's a valid suggestion. Repeating the mantra" I want a Deltic" does nothing. Change it up, suggest a realistic solution. Package it with someone else. Suggest a route it could run on. Take the example of the cargo packs (or the Diesel Legends) and do something positive for a change.
That second picture looks to be a bulldozer (could be wrong). As KWA's are used a lot in transporting them around in Engineers Trains. But we'll see. Looking forward to these packs. As well as cargo line volume 5? Hentis
no no it's good! I'm actually somewhat excited about Vol.4 and this teaser (which quite clearly is a DRS Class 20)
