What Do People Do With Their Dlcs

What do people do with their dlcs?

As in do people focus on one dlc at a time then move on to another one or have multiple at one time.

Personally for me I complete all my services then buy a new dlc only when this is done.

And do people get any value from replaying services again?

Each person has different preferences. Just curious.

 

I just play whatever takes my fancy

 

I just play whatever I have time to start and finish before the wife starts making indications that I should be doing something else. For those of you who want longer routes: don’t get married. You’ll be lucky if you can get 30 minutes in.

Needless to say, I play a lot of Isle of Wight

 

I have yet to get that route but heard okay things about it.

 

What play whatever dlc appeals to me at the time, if it’s a new dlc I’ll usually play that exclusively for a couple weeks unless I get bored. If a new loco dlc is coming to an existing route but doesn’t add any services to the timetable I’ll usually stop playing that timetable it subs onto so I can finish it with the new loco as I don’t like replaying services I’ve already done (it feels like a wait of time), the only exception being the E101.

 

I keep all I have installed, and often I actually choose what to play at random. Quite literally, by asking Google for a random number

Ok, I do "cheat" occasionally, if it turns out to be something I particularly don't fancy at the moment (or if it doesn't have services with a length corresponding to the amount of free time I have), but generally that's my way to keep my entertainment varied.

I don't do that always though, sometimes I just have a preference

But in any case I vary the routes I play a lot. And I keep returning even to the old ones.

 

Most of mine are purely there for layers and nothing else.

I only really play 3 or 4 regularly.

 

I don't have 4 items UP heritage pack, NS Pack, Expert 101 (will get over xmas) and the Scotrail class 158 ( waiting on Fife Circle timetable).

Usually i play a region for a week. UK, German, US, and the 4th week a mix of Austria\France\Swiss routes.

Unless I have an urge for something specific.

I always use the actual date and I look up the weather in the area and try to set custom weather as close as I can.

I never use Dynamic weather ( Until its adjusted to not always jump to fog as it seems too)

I just play timetable mode, and if I have time for more than one run I try to link it up. Like MBTA Worchester to Boston, then do a Boston to Providence. LIRR then either NYT or Harlem Line. ECW and BML and so on.

That about describes my playing style.

 

I put don't down a note to sit down and actually run a particular route I've been sitting on...and then not do it, like most other games in my library haha

 

I buy DLCs, but never get around to using them. So I decided to work my way through each route starting from the begging and complete the timetables and scenarios for each route including core and DLCs in order of release date. This has given me a better understanding of each route and the trains on it. I am well qualified by the end of finishing each route and I get a good sense of achievement out of it.

Seriously it does get hard to choose and one reason I’m no longer blindly buying every new route that comes out. I do tend to gravitate towards the newer content or stuff that I like, but even WCMLoS has started to get a bit draggy, mainly due to ongoing stutter and sound issues. There are the routes I rarely touch, some of the US freight like Cane Creek or Sherman Hill - a couple of runs in each direction and I’m done. Even worse in TSC where I own over 100 routes.

I will look at routes where I haven’t done all the scenarios or still need to finish the Journey (where the runs don’t bug out on me). There’s also the Quick Play randomiser but that only tends to find scenarios rather than a timetable run.

If all else fails I have a pack of playing cards and have allocated the routes I own to a card value (with some duplication), so shuffle, cut and deal the top card then go pick something off that route to do.

 

I have a spreadsheet with all the routes I own. Sometimes I randomize the order of the list and play a service on each route until I've completed the whole list. Usually takes two weeks or so to finish the whole list. Great way to rediscover old routes I haven't played in a long time.

I keep everything installed so I have all the layers on every route, and play whatever I have time for or feel like on a given day...

 

Nice one. I am debating getting rid of some routes as I don't play them (mainly wsr of which I find boring and slow)

 

I'll sometimes do quick play but often I'll just choose a route that takes my fancy, at the moment it's West Coast Mainline north.

I keep contemplating that but the problem then is the layering, particularly German routes where everything seems fiendishly inter woven. Even Goblin, can’t get rid of as need it for the DC Line on WCML.

 

It's the largest single game install on my laptop's drive at around 300GB. Good thing I have 6TB allocated to games.

 

I want to finish all services in WCML, after that i move to Frankfurt Fulda and is the same, and finally San Bernardino before move to Arosalinie (alphabetic order from Arosalinie) but at crhistmas i upgrade to PS5 and probably lost all progress but finally i can see the 72 stock and other layers that i was unable to see on PS4

 

They are definitely worth purchasing as are the other DLCs to access the layers if you can get them. Happy Christmas to you as well.

 

You can transfer the progress across. As its essentially the same game just the ps5 version. As long as it's not Xbox to ps4 or something. Doesn't support that.

You just have to use your original profile for tsw.

 

I’m simply longing for them since I’m on a 2 week vacation with my family without PC….

 

I switch between routes a lot, but there are 6 that I keep permanently installed.

Those are my "go to" routes that I can jump on and play anytime. Everything else gets randomly installed and uninstalled, mainly whenever they get an update patch or I just fancy a change.

War Thunder, Borderlands 3 and Guilty Gear Strive take up a lot of the time I put aside for TSW... so yeah, there's that too.

 

You can't transfer progress from PS4 to PS5 at all.
You can transfer DLCs across but not player progress.

 

Whenever I get a new DLC, I play only that until I have completed all scenarios, achievements and mastery. As with WCML over Shap: played only that for a few weeks. After that I look to other stuff that I fancy or older routes that haven't had my full attention yet.

Edit: just picked up playing Edinburgh-Glasgow again, after not having done so for quite a while. This was triggered by the Scotrail 158 update.

 

I keep the ones I like installed. Then If I want a new dlc I wait for a sale to justify how long I'd use it . It's been a quite a long time since I really wanted a dlc to purchase at full price.

Because I'm on a decent PC, everything is installed.
But I tend to only use a few go-to routes. The others I only play when I let the game randomly select an activity/scenario for me.

My current regular go-to routes:
Preston-Carlisle
Blackpool Branches
Midland Mainline
& Cathcart Circle (getting bored of the circle lol but Glasgow Central is my favourite station, and I so want another route out of Central!)

With Midland Mainline (it was just bad) and Cathcart Circle (too quiet), I didn't like them at first but having had work done to them, they are so much better now and it's because of that work that I play them a lot more.

And yes, I do enjoy replaying some services again. For example with layers I might do a journey in a 101 and then go back and do it in the Pacer to see how I get on. Likewise, I'll sometimes go back and do a service again if I didn't get a good medal for some reason.

 

So, no WCML over Shap? That was definitely worth full price IMO

 

Whatever inspires me at the moment. Seeing a movie or video or having a wild idea on something to try. I generally play a lot of Free Roam because what I want often isn't in the timetables. Timetable is the least used in my game. I was doing the scenarios and "journey modes" but after quite a few were buggy or things I had zero interest in, I dropped it. Just not enough reward.
Free Roam is usually the best for me because I like to explore and try new things.
6 identical services (or very similar) like on Antelope are just not my bag.
Too repetitive.
But the Xmas F125 from San Bernadino on the WSR was kinda neat (and vice versa)

Free Roam also sort of "shakes things up" because you can't predict what the AI is doing like the same timetable over and over. You often have to deal with traffic conflicts and such from being "slotted in" and that kinda makes sense because I like doing freight and it often works that way irl.

 

It depends what mood I'm in. Sometimes I'll do some shunting or some short commuter runs, long (ish) commuter runs. American freight runs etc.
I'll always pick a route, then a train. But mainly pick a route, spawn on foot and spawn a train. This could be dmu, emu, loco hauled passenger, freight or steam.
Railtour or passenger run or a freight runs, ecs moves.
Sometimes I'll spawn a train somewhere along the route, then fast travel to a depot or something and spawn a loco and see if I can navigate thru the traffic to rescue the train.

 

I have been branching into cargo runs with 66 and loving it! Absolutely fun even if a bit slower to what I am used to but I just take my time.

 

To add to this I think the services will run differently depending on what layers you have on..was looking on that spreadsheet for est tsw runs and found some services I have done with stock I don't have. So I feel to get full experience it's best with a lot of things installed.

 

It usually depends on the sort of day I have had, at the minute WCML proper seems to be ruling the roost with that gorgeous 87, though sometimes a burst in the HST on MML takes my fancy, and then occasionally I'll look at the routes and go and play something else. Like I say, it is dependent on the day I have had mostly!

 

The route looks great and class 86 is highly detailed. But i would only play it a few times. so I'll wait for a sale then purchase it.

 

What do I do with my DLC? I play them

Every dlc/timetable/train gets a minimum run at least one run every quarter. I use a spreadsheet to keep track and once the journey/scenarios are complete I run the down the timetable in roughly time order.

 

I like a few of the 66 runs. There's one on sehs. From hoo junction to sittingbourne sidings. Uncoupling run around then back to Rochester.

 

i have a good number of the Dlc for tsw ..I usually play training scenarios first then regular scenarios ,i walk most routes on foot looking for collectables and seeing the route,then i do timetable runs and free roam i mix it up run US trains on UK and vice versa thats the best just going with any train on any route making my own freight or passenger train in formation,also using creators club liveries to add color and variety,

 

So I have a few days off next week, and decided to do some scenarios on routes that I have forgotten about a bit. Made a list and I intend to finish that

I am somewhat of a completionist, and like to finish all scenarios and all types (ECS, stopping, express, shunting, freight... of timetable for a route at least once.

 

I just play whatever I fancy. Sometimes I buy a route and drive it a few times and then maybe not play it for six months and come back to it. I would never play one till death till the next one comes along. I like having the variety to come back to.

 

I normally random select a route to play, as playing your same favourite routes day in, day out will drive anyone crazy.
I’m juggling MS Fight Sim 2024, Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Ops 6 with TSW5 currently. I don’t play TSW5 every day either as I like variety in my gaming. Playing a game every day is a luxury now days anyways as in reality I probably only get time to play 3-4 days a week.
I’m glad it’s Christmas though, once I’m done being sociable with family and they’ve all gone home I will then resort to my man cave. I definitely haven’t played much of the new WCML JT route so that will probably receive my attention.

 

Also, most of the DLCs will provide layers for other routes, so I keep them on for that even if I never play on them.

 

I mainly play on PS5 but I have picked up a laptop recently that can cope with TSW5, so I'm getting routes for the laptop that I don't already have on playstation, i tend to do a few varies services including freight, and the scenarios. Then bounce between different routes doing a few more services or working towards the mastery levels to try and max them out for as many routes as I can.

I mostly play my UK based DLCs (I don't own E-G or Fife circle).
I prefer using diesel locos (mostly classic ones) so will often frequent BPO, WCMLoS, TVL or NTP.
I do sometimes play other routes with the electric units and also GWE and MML for the HSTs etc.

If I want a challenge I'll sometimes dabble with the US freight routes or the German routes learning LZB, PZB etc.

 

Played wcml today and so far loving it but feels very challenging as you have to watch that ammeter guage lol then the neutral sections etc. It's all immersive.

Also wonder why at certain stations the guard blows whistle yet at others he just buzzes with class 87

 

Depends on which coaches you're pulling.

Mark 2 coaches, the guard blows a whistle. Mark 3 coaches, he uses a buzzer.

 

I just got into the game this year and I initially bought TSW4 in the big bundle on Humble, which included like 15 routes. I also bought TSW 2 and 3 on sale which added like 6 more, as well as a few here and there on sale so I have a huge library of routes that I've been working through as a beginner.

The way I play the game is almost exclusively through the journeys. I will play through a journey for a particular route that interests me for as long as I am interested in it, then I'll choose a new one to start on. Sometimes I finish the journey, sometimes I don't since some are very long and repetitive, with the only difference in services are weather and time of day. I mainly play US and UK routes and some of the ones I've played and enjoyed are NEC: Boston - Providence, Harlem Line, Peninsular Corridor, Southeastern Highspeed, Northern Trans Pennine, and Peak Forest.
