Yep, Groups C-H will be tomorrow as they need the preliminaries done before they can start.

So folks it's time to press TRTS and set this competition on it's way. The preliminaries are done and here's the full, official, Group Stage draw!

    United Kingdom
You've already seen this and, well, we have some results already!

    Group A (CLOSED)
    1. Class 142 'Pacer' - 44 Votes
    2. Class 45 - 15 Votes
    3. Class 20 - 13 Votes
    4. Class 33 - 5 Vites
    Group B (CLOSED)
    1. Class 87 - 41 Votes
    2. Class 158 - 16 Votes
    3. Class 313 - 10 Votes
    4. Class 08/09 - 5 Votes
    Group C
    • Class 40
    • Class 52
    • Class 323
    • Class 390
    • (P1) 1972 Tube Stock
    Group D
    • Class 150
    • Class 465
    • Class 700
    • (P2) Class 66
    Group E
    • Class 31
    • Class 350
    • Class 801 'Azuma'
    • (P3) EMT Class 43 'HST'
    Group F
    • Class 101
    • Class 380
    • Class 395
    • (P4) Class 387
    Group G
    • Class 37
    • Class 166
    • Class 710
    • (P5) ROG Class 37
    Group H
    • Class 170
    • Class 314
    • Class 385
    • (P6) Flying Scotsman
What's the odds of that, by the way.

    Europe
Europe is an open draw with Preliminary winners mixed in. The lowest-ranked Preliminary Winner, which is eliminated, is unfortunately the DB BR 146 with only 16 votes - just losing out to the G6.
I've also miscounted so I've just merged the IC Cab Car with the 101. Annoying but had to be done.

    So, here's the draw:

    Group A
    • RhB GE 4/4 II
    • ÖBB 1116
    • DB BR 110
    • DB BR 218
    • DB BR 612
    Group B
    • DB BR 642
    • DB BR 143
    • DB BR 628
    • DB BR 411 ICE-T
    Group C
    • DB BR 425
    • DB BR 103
    • N-Wagen
    • G6 Shunter
    Group D
    • DB BR 187
    • ÖBB 4024
    • DB BR 422
    • DB BR 767.2 / 766.2 (Dostos)
    Group E
    • RhB Allegra
    • FlixTrain Vectron
    • SBB RABe 523
    • SNCF TGV Duplex
    Group F
    • DB BR 155
    • DB BR 423
    • DB BR 442
    • IC DB BR 101 + Cab Car
    United States
Finally, we move to the US. Similarly to the Routes section, we'll split this down the middle - but, because of an imbalance in favour of passenger, we'll go with 3 groups - two passenger, one freight.

    Passenger A
    • Amtrak ACS-64
    • Caltrain F40PH-2CAT
    • Metrolink MP36PH-3C
    • Metrolink Rotem Bi-Level Cab Car
    • MBTA F40PH-3
    • MNR M3A
    • MNR M7A
    • NJT ALP-46
    Passenger B
    • Amtrak Acela Express
    • Amtrak Metroliner
    • LIRR M3
    • LIRR M7
    • LIRR M9
    • Metrolink F125
    • MBTA HSP46
    • NJT ALP-46
    Freight
    • CSX/BNSF/UP SD40-2
    • CSX/UP/NS/CN GP38-2
    • CN GP9
    • CSX/UP AC4400CW
    • CRR/SF F7
    • CRR SD40
    • UP/BNSF SD70ACe
    • NS ES44AC
    • BNSF ES44C4
    Progression
I want to do a more rounded format and, as locos are far less comparable between sections than routes are, crown a 'champion' in Europe, Britain and North America.

    So, progression is as follows:

Britain: 2 Routes per group = 16 total
    Europe: 2 Routes per group (12) + 4 Third-Places = 16 in total
    America: 2 Routes per group (6) + 2 third-places = 8 in total

Then we'll go from R16 to Quarter Finals, Semi-Finals and finally Sectional Final, before the Grand Finale between the winner of each section. I suspect that will become a poll of "which do you prefer? The UK, the US or Europe?" But this Loco World Cup for me is really just testing ideas, as last year's Route World Cup was.

With that in mind, I'll get the threads up and we'll get this show on the (rail)road!

    3. (P6) Flying Scotsman - 21 Votes
    4. Class 385 - 12 Votes

    Round Two (R16)
For round two we've got 16 routes in the hat. They line up as follows:

    • Class 465 vs Class 390
    • Class 700 vs Class 801
    • Class 47 vs Class 31
    • Class 40 vs Class 87
    • Class 101 vs Class 45
    • Class 395 vs Class 710
    • Class 158 vs Class 314*
    • Class 170 vs Class 142*
*drew the Class 314 vs Class 170. This happened in the group stages so swapped the Class 170 with Class 158.

    A question...
I'm going to run with a bracket format for this - so every loco has a clear path to the UK Final. Of course, this is a competition for you guys' enjoyment ultimately so if anyone has any reservations I'll change it - this doesn't change anything for this round, but more for the next couple after this.

Also, in the interest of cutting down on threads, I'll probably do a four-way final at the end of each section rather than a two-way Semi-Final. While having a 1v1 final would be fun I've had complaints about the no. of threads so I'm not going to fuel that. Sorry.

Europe will start later - the US doesn't go again until the 1st.

(Ignore image - just realised it has the routes in the wrong order)

In fact, Europe / UK will start tomorrow and run over the bells into the 1st, to make up for the lack of an overnight poll planned for tomorrow.

Apologies about that again I've pushed it back. Ended up doing a bit more than planned for NYE and now paying the price. I'll probably get it going today.

Already some interesting results and one or two of the groups quite hard to pick a favourite.

Hi folks. I think OldVern is right here in that I probably won't be able to finish this.

Life is very much back at full speed following the holidays as the forum also will be soon. Besides, endless headscratching over the format from the start has left it a confused mess in my mind and one I just lack the patience to keep going.

I think next year I'll stick to Routes.

If anyone wants to see this finished you're free to take over - just say so here to avoid multiple people doing it. The Europe/NA group stages and UK R2 results can be found in their respective threads.

Otherwise, it's over from me. The only way I can see this out would be staggering it as once every couple of days but that's no fun.

    Apologies, folks.

It's ok that you won't be able to finish this as you've got your own life to deal with which is fine and we all appreciate what you have done with the TSW world cup series. Also, maybe this will be my formal bid but I don't mind finishing off the loco world cup as I think it has been really fun and shouldn't just be left unfinished without a winner. So if there are no objections and if everyone's fine with it I will try to restart the momentum of the loco world cup with the next couple of rounds which I should have at least the next round ready by Friday this week at the latest or if people want I can try and restart the whole loco cup from scratch with a different format which might take longer for me to do but could be easier to implement some changes. However, it is up to you all to decide which way I do the loco world cup and I won't mind which way you guys prefer. Also, for my continuation of the loco world cup I'll largely still be using this thread unless I restart it fresh with new rules and all.

Bummer, but thanks for the effort! I'm sure this situation is much more frustrating for you than us.

Any chance of posting a snapshot of things as they stand to aid anyone who does want to pick up where you left off?

Fair dos mate, it does seem an awfully large job to do the locos/units when compared to routes.

I second that and hopefully the route results might give DTG a bit of direction into what customers want to see going forward.

I think for the best direction we need to do a separate survey for the worst addon of all time. Because the addon that received the least votes cannot automatically be considered the worst. We have to tell DTG what we liked the least and why.

So after a lot of thinking rather than restarting fresh the loco world cup from scratch I'll just be finishing up each of the world cup stages with a little twist. I'm planning on having a winner from each group stage and some of the runner ups compete against one another in a showdown to determine the overall best loco in TSW and the winner of this year's loco world cup. Which means for now Uk group stage round 3 will be delayed indefinitely until I'm able to get the latest rounds done for Europe and America. With America's second round now becoming it's semi-final due to there not being a lot of contenders left which will cause freight to vs passenger, so I hope you all are not all bothered by that. Additionally I'll soon post round 2 for Europe in a couple of minutes which will so far be in a similar format to Uk.

From what I've seen in Europe's second round I might merge both semi finals for Europe and America on one thread as there isn't that many of them left so Uk might be coming out tonight.

Uk Third Round Now live (until 00;00 utc Saturday)

Edit: Voting has been changed to prevent round 3 for UK from being a semi final as all the semi finals and grand finales will be on one thread due to limits.

No problem, if you don't mind me asking TimTri have you voted in the latest Uk round yet as currently we are stuck on a tie breaker for both groups that needs to be resolved asap or if you and others can find more people to vote in the latest round for Uk that'll greatly be appreciated.

Unfortunately I just missed the deadline, it’s my first time checking the forums today so I didn’t see your comment until now ;)

Edit: I see that there’s still a tie in Group B, so if you need a way to resolve that, I would’ve definitely voted for the Class 47 (and not the 395)!

Firstly foggy wrong one I'm talking about the Uk 3rd round which is a couple of posts up (Tsw Loco World Cup: Uk Third Round | Dovetail Games Forums) which last I checked had two tiebreakers. However from what Timtri has just said they would've voted for the class 47 so that should resolve the tiebreaker and will now allow me to post the semi finales for each region today and then regional grand finales by Monday. Thx for the help though both of you.

Sorry for posting the semi final today as some personal and technical stuff came up but the semi finals are now live and they will conclude by Monday. In regards to the Grand finales I'll release them possible Wednesday or late Tuesday so it doesn't conflict with this month's roadmap. With the free for all being released thursday with friday being the latest. Now trainsimplayer you know how you have for the winner of the regular tsw world cup you have a image with a little crown if you don't mind could you tell me what program you use to edit those photos so I can add the crowns to the winning locos.

Btw link here for the latest voting

Just any old paint software that lets you import an image. I used Pixlr-E (think that's the name) for it but anything you've got will work.

So it's now time for the grand finals of the regional part of the Loco world cup and I can assure you it will be crazy and chaotic with some of the best locos picked by you in the running so start voting. Which I chose to move forward as I thought the roadmap comes out Tuesday when in my time it comes out wednesday so it won't interfere with the finals and the free for all will still be released Thursday with Friday still being the latest. Also trainsimplayer thx for telling me the paint software you've used for the previous world cup it has made my life easier so thx once again.

Grand finale voting here (closes 00;00utc tuesday)

    Ladies and Gentlemen
With the voting for the Grand finals now closed it is time to announce the winners for the regional stages of this world cup before the free for all Thursday that'll determine the best loco in tsw.

    Final standings
    UK

The free for all for TSW's Loco world cup is now live and it looks like it'll be a juicy despite the delay leaving the station (apologises for that had to work out some things) as we wrap up this competition.

The link to the voting can be found here and it'll be closing Sunday 00;00 utc

As we near the climax of this exciting tournament, thanks once again for taking over from trainsimplayer and finishing the contest.

I wonder how the 390 made it so far, the loco sounds horrid speeding beyond 30mph.

It's still a mystery to me how Acela got to the final with such a poor quality.

I'm amazed how everyone said the Expert 101 is so niche but it's still the top voted german train

Looks like a shoo-in for the Class 87. It was always going to be a UK loco, I guess.

Well at least it's not an emu.

Because it was the 'best' US train. Which it maybe is.

If you play it with fault simulation off, it is not much harder than other locos. It is really well made and looks great.

The cab car that comes with it is also a blast!

No problem it has been a pleasure finishing this contest and, I am thinking that if it's fine with trainsimplayer and the rest of you I might run the next couple of loco world cup's in the future or we'll co host them.

You mean IRL? Cause in game it's not so good: very bad sounds + no shadings underneath the cars.

No, in game. It's only in the final because of the way the competition is set up. It was voted the best US train, but it can't compare to a lot of European trains.

The Expert 101 is super niche with its high price. I also continue to question why the much-requested IC cab car is exclusive to this pack, even though the whole point of the Expert packs is to take existing rolling stock and elevate it to the next level of realism for die-hard train nerds. But the level of detail also undoubtedly means it’s a great loco. I hope it gets a heavy discount in a few years’ time so I can justify buying it.

I myself really enjoy it and can't wait for more expert trains. it's expensive but for me it was worth it, apparently more agree as it got a lot of votes. I do however think the cab car should be for base game too. that would save the duplicate timetables and people not wanting the expert stuff (even though you can turn it off) but still want the iconic cab car

If neither the 87 nor the 101 gets more than 50% of the total vote, we should have a two loco runoff!
