Yeah that’s what I was doing but as it was already on the move each time (because I hadn’t gone back enough in time), the start time didn’t show. If I had gone back more than an hour and ten minutes initially I would have found it first time. Once a service becomes active the start time isn’t displayed (at least on PS5). Of course, without the new functionality of the map I would never had found it, so there is that to be thankful for.
bit of feedback from me, did these the other night in the 142 first 5P46 well other than 2 services sharing the same number ?, the newton heath one was just a single move to Preston shunting line and that was it. i stayed on in free roam and with another return to free roam got it to the holding sidings. via the reversal point i couldn't understand why for such a short scenario it wasn't all done in one hit. 5P46 was slightly different as, as above via a few returns i got the train into Preston. how ever the AI took over that quick i had to do the 142 key dance and jump out of a moving train at the end of the station. i then did 5E05 and after a few returns it got me on the ECS move to Carnforth. got to say i loved it because without the points score i put it into notch 7 to see how fast it went. bouncing through the through lines at Lancaster at 75-80mph was fun, so massive thumbs up for having some services without points. my sort of small gripe is in the service description could you put a little more info in like 5P46 and just add this service has 2 more parts non timetabled if you return to free roam. same with 5E05 this service carries on to Carnforth non timetabled and it then forms 2E05 Carnforth to York timetabled. again with the timetabled services put some info in if there is a preceding LE move or carriage shunt move that forms part of the service or any movements after the service ends. it should make it easier to find them stay in game blocks of services that ive been really enjoying at late, keep up the good work.
I have to admit that this is one of my gripes with the route - the way many shunting moves are left out of the timetable selection. I get their explanation that if a move needs to be split into multiple parts for the AI, you don’t want it cluttering up the selection. But many first parts of these moves are left out as well when they should still be available to select in my opinion.
I think the issue is more with the core game than the route itself as it's on others too, such as the new Cathcart timetable. I think the ones they should have left in were those with the 87 as with the ability to walk from one cab to the other, it's so easy to shut down one end and move to the other (or use reverse). I've done lots of 87 ECS moves that are not on the timetable.
Due to the way the core works each reversal needs to be split hence there's a ton of ECS moves under the hood. The reason I don't have most shown is because I didn't really want to clutter up the loco selection screen with ECS's like it was when we began testing as it became incredibly difficult to find anything that wasn't an ECS.
Sounds like what we need is a service type filter, where you can differentiate between PAX, freight and ECS on the same loco. Core feature change ofc
The way I’d like to see this handled is for the first service to be selectable. For example, if some shunting moves are split up into parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 for AI, then have part 1 in the timetable selection while hiding the others. That’s less clutter while keeping all options easy to access. It’s a shame that you need to use workarounds via spawning on foot and checking AI timings just to find the moves preceding a run on the mainline.
Will have to admit that writing an activity in MSTS was so much easier and I wrote many. I know it had a much simpler structure and was not hampered by UE.
can see why you didn't include all the ESC moves. at 320 services already in that's double TVL and NTP combined. there are some services out there that i can see start on part one but will contain multiple parts, 6F50 petteril bridge to stanlow 3mins duration is one in the 47 list. may be a suggestion then would be a stickie thread in General discussion with an excel doc that could be added too by the community and JT as a way of finding said hidden services and enable people to get even more out of what's already a classic route.
Not sure if this has been mentioned but 0E43 Hardendale to Hardendale with the class 47 isn't completable. The game spawns the last wagon behind the buffer so whenever you couple up to it it's a derail. This is on PS5.
I just did one of the speedlink services and managed to get all the way from Carlisle to the station throat at Preston until a crash on Xbox S. Usually crashes at least twice on a high speed run, so maybe being limited to 60mph is a bit more forgiving on the hardware and it’s more stable. I’ve learned to save game every 5 mins or so which is a bit of an immersion killer but my goodness I still find this route brilliant. The WCML AC electrics are the stuff of my childhood, and those motor fans just bring back the nostalgia by the bucketload. JT even get extra points for tail lamps that, wait for it, are still visible flashing away well into the distance, instead of becoming invisible after 100 yards on a clear night like most routes and rolling stock. And the lamps are placeable on most (I haven’t forensically checked) stock which is great. It always annoyed me driving trains without a tail lamp, something that would obviously never be permitted. I can’t wait for whatever JT’s next project is after the class 86. I’d love it to be something involving Crewe in the late BR era, although my poor little series S might struggle with the complexity. All I know is it will be another day 1 purchase. Keep up the good work JT.
There are no fuel pumps on the map? Not that ive found any but it seems a little of with a route with so much diesel traffic and not a single fuel pump on the map. Also, more journeys with the other diesel traction. Otherwise a pretty solid route!
Maybe I was just unlucky then as the very first time I wanted to run one, it wasn’t in the timetable. It’s light loco move 0S04 (starting at 00:24 in Preston).
Agreed!!! The problem is that their creation is not at all visual, from selecting the direction of travel, to the various intermediate menus. Why don't we just click on the desired station and then select the next ones? In general I don't care too much about this, I ride the pre-made ones, but sometimes you want to experiment and ride an ‘incompatible’ train. And how did this feature work in MSTS?
Head out cam throws you straight down train when I have been doing services which have lots of coaches.
Curious also as to why there is no safety system sounds coming through my ps5 controller speaker. It does on ecml. Why is this?
Quick question. Before embarking on the long 08 shunt/trip scenario from Kingmoor to Currock etc., does this have any known issues? Don’t want to dedicate nearly two hours to find something doesn’t snap into place at the end and the scenario can’t be completed?
While I'm here, has anyone encountered a service which uses Harrison's Sidings? I think I've got the name correct. I couldn't find anything in the timetable that mentions it but the sidings are fully modelled, indeed you can explore the area extensively on foot.
I've only done it the once and had no issues on my PS5, But I saved every 10-15 minutes just in case.
I completed this a few weeks ago, and the only issue I encountered (Xbox) was having to pass a shunting signal at danger in the Currock shunt neck. I perhaps misinterpreted the signal as it just controls access onto the main line and the points were set to remain in the sidings.
PS5 Pro As with the Blackpool map, I also notice a decrease in the smoothness of the game when the service with DMU 142 (Pacer) is active. With the same service operated with Class 101, the game runs practically smoothly. If the DMU 142 is only as an AI, there is no problem.
Yes just completed it, very nice scenario. That shunt signal at Currock threw me a bit too, but I saved before passing it. And must admit going back to shed at the end I was somewhat liberal with the Depot 5 MPH speed limit!
PS5. I'm really enjoying the shunting and trip workings but encountered a problem with 9T07, the 08.14 Carlisle Trip Working Part 2. After delivering the wagons to Currock Yard and rejoining the main line, light engine, the signal giving access to the yard to collect the mineral wagons stays red. Contacting the signaller gets the "access denied, train in section " message. I tried giving up the service thinking the 08 would enter the yard on it's own but the signal stayed red. Apologies if this has been mentioned previously.
No, it's turned off. The road is set correctly, I've walked it to check. Even the turnout from the main line is set but the signal won't clear.
I'll give it a try. Another strange thing, the expected route didn't get highlighted either. To save driving all the way from Kingmoor I spawned at Carlisle and ran over to Currock in time to see the AI trip arrive. I let it deposit the wagons and took over. Same problem, once on the main line, the signal won't allow me past into the yard despite the route being correctly set.
At Carnforth platform 4 the 10mph restriction doesn't apply instantly at board. And only after. Should be instantaneous
This problem still hasn't been fixed 2 months on. You would equally think if it was possible to be a conductor on a 142 to Morecambe you would be able to do it to Blackpool or Ormskirk too. Is the an update or manual to outline how to make it work. or is it just a bug that is being ignored
The guard mode issue isn't just confined to the Shap route. There are still issues with WCML south and the other TSW5 routes.
On the Lancaster to Morecambe run, the level crossing at Bare Lane will correctly drop the barriers on your approach to the station (and the line ahead has a green) but often raises the barriers later when you still have a green to move off from Bare Lane station towards Morecombe and through the level crossing
JT Benedict is there a fix in the pipeline for the Stone Scratcher rail tour services? they all result in me being transported to random places with no train.
Yeah, was about to post the same today until I noticed this. There's been several minor issues reported and the route has been out for a few months now, maybe a patch will come with the 86/2. I really do hope we get sounds for the MK3's, it's just not right not hearing the distinct whining and hissing sounds
I found a problem with the MK3 coaches in the intercity livery which are the wheels aren't turning but the MK3 in blue the wheels are moving this is on Xbox
Still find the dynamic weather on this route a PITA. In Journey mode, every run starts off with clear skies but by 20 minutes in either thick fog has descended or, as on my current run south from Carlisle with an overnight train, we have the usual apocalyptic thunderstorm going which will never relent. I know some of this is down to the crappy core algorithms for DW but JT for the sake of our sanity can you go back and make some or all of your Journey elements fixed weather, please. I know we could use the environment mod to change this but with the current performance issues TSW has I’m reluctant to go outside vanilla. And shouldn’t be necessary anyway to see the route in calmer weather conditions. And on the subject of performance, the Jan 21 patch has done little or nothing to mitigate the stutters and sound hitching on this route which spoil the Class 87 experience. Far from enjoying the classic electric thrash with windows down and speakers turned up, having to do the opposite. Remains incongruous to have an overnight train formed entirely of Mark Three day coaches described as a “sleeper service”. And the Up train I’m currently driving again should have the top speed as 80 MPH not 75 MPH, with operationally no reason not to run at 100 MPH if making up time. Still overall the best UK route we have in TSW but some room for improvement.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who experienced this. I assumed it was just extraordinarily bad luck..! In the 'Power Trip' chapter of the journey mode I have a different problem. The weather is constantly changing from blue skies to snowy and back again, in unnaturally fast pace. It just keeps cycling the weather patterns from one extreme to the other and that goes on during the whole driving session. I have had this happen on both of the first two services in that journey chapter. I've never seen the weather behaving like that before. Would be nice to know if others have similar experiences (Steam/PC).
The dynamic weather is also being discussed at the moment on this thread; https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/climate-change.88771/#post-959154 And, yes, there's a long rambling one on there from me as usual.
5W01 barrow to Windermere first part worked fine, so I stayed in and got the following service come up in which you start at Lancaster P1 and finish there. the 3rd part was an AI service to Windermere. I stayed on that and it didn't stop there run straight through and kicked me out at the limit. shame that the third part was AI as it was an interesting run chasing yellows up to Carnforth then a flat run up to Windermere, would of made a nice drive.
