Sent an email to Fastline Simulation over a pack I had and received a bounceback, also the website appears to be generating some warnings when trying to view it. Are fastline defunct now?

There website hasn't been updated for years (literally), though you can just about still buy DLC through it, or you could when I last did it a few months ago.

I suspect they are effectively defunct.

Personally I wouldn’t buy DLC from them anymore. You can still find the store page but all the links that I have for previous purchases no longer work. Fortunately I have them all backed up so not an issue.

Their website address now redirects to McAffee, so I guess they've gone now. Most of their products are still on Steam.

You should be able to swap them with another 4 wheeled van - they were slow a 45mph van in real life and finished by 1990.

Just looked at my old purchases and came across a link to the store page.
    https://sites.fastspring.com/fastlinesimulation/product/rollingstock.
I don't think the web site has been updated for years. I know the home page doesn't work, but the link looks to take you directly to the rolling stock page.
Its up to your discretion if you try to purchase or not. Just to be clear I cant be held responsible if it doesn't work and you loose money.

Is this the time to mention backup?

Absolutely. For me its 3rd party purchases, and the whole "Railworks" folder.. Over the years I must have spent hundreds of pounds on addons. Backup is vital.

As I mentioned earlier, I suggest not using the purchase links that are still visible. I have fastline stuff that I’ve purchased in the past and the provided links do not work anymore.

When I raised a support request with their store provider, I never got a response. So it’s very likely not to work.

Shame as I quite liked their wagons. But as said, easy to find something to swap them out with. If I do ever need them, then I know I have a backup somewhere, but it’s so secure, I’m not sure exactly where I hid it!

Just for info, the domain ownership must have lapsed and been purchased by "somebody else", because it forwards you to a site with a very strange URL that is apparently known to be dangerous, so the MacCoffee advertisment is probably fake and eager to either steal your money or place something nasty on your computer. Steer clear!

The page listing products for sale is with Fastspring, who manage small business payment sites. Personally I wouldn't touch an abandoned site but I don't think there is any danger of fraud there. Any problems should be resolvable directly with Fastspring.

Normally do, these slipped through the net.

Made my last purchase in July (102t tankers), back then everything was still ok.

Of course, always backup. Shops can disappear anytime, and they do, as commercially TSC is almost finished.

Nothing better for that purpose than an external USB harddrive for keeping your zips and exes. Or, if you happen to got one, your own NAS.

The items on the Steam store can be purchased reliably

Yes, but not the ones on the remnants of Fastlines old website which are not available on Steam. Fastspring who ran the shop haven’t taken down the shop page, but they have stopped supplying the DLC.

I just happened to be installing UKTS40124, and the installation notes say that Fastline ceased operation in 2010.

Neither did I. The last time I bought anything from them was only last year !

I didn’t realise it was so long either.

My last purchase was last year. Even though the website was down, I took a risk with the fastspring shop page and at the time, it worked. However, I went to re download the packs recently and couldn’t, so have to go searching through my backups.

Those notes are wrong. Fastline were still active in 2016. https://fastline-simulation.blogspot.com/

I think the download links timeout a few days after purchase.

I've just purchased the ZCA Sea Urchins (Steam has only the EWS version) on

    https://sites.fastspring.com/fastlinesimulation/product/shop

Payment via PayPal, received the download link instantly via email. So it's trustworthy.

I guess the point is the costs of running a website for a presumably very low visitor count isn't economical anymore. Fastline's official presence is now X (Twitter).

Have you been in touch with them through TwiXtet?

Nope. I don't have an account and not interested in getting one on the most useless antisocial platform there is. :P

But I understand them dropping web presence and domain fees for somebody to check in once a month and buy something for 4 bucks. X account is free, and webshop service "fastspring" does all the transaction and filehosting for probably much less fees than a ".co.uk" domain.

I wonder how much a Kofi store is? I've used it a few times for Major Wales and TSRS content and it's quite good.

Basically a maximum of 5% of sales revenue, but if you use Kofi Free it's...well, free. Card transaction fees may apply too.

This is very good to know. I may get those tankers. Not sure about others yet.
