Hello and welcome to my new route suggestion for TSW:

Ahrensfelde (NE Berlin) to Golm (part of Potsdam to the SW of Berlin)

This will be a very detailed suggestion, so will be over multiple posts. The suggestion will cover unique features, justification, route and station info, rolling stock, playable and AI services etc.

    36.jpg
Alexanderplatz station, which is part of the iconic Berlin Stadtbahn, in the shadow of the German capital's splendid TV Tower (Fernsehturm)
All pictures in this suggestion taken by myself

Unique Features and Why This Route Should Come to TSW

    - German capital region and Brandenburg (with the state capital being Potsdam)
    - Iconic landmarks such as the TV Tower (Fernsehturm), Reichstag and River Spree can all be seen from the route and is of very historical and cultural significance
    - Having the Berlin S-Bahn in TSW would mean the first German third-rail (750 V DC) train, the DBAG 481/482, as well as the ZBS (ETCS) safety system
    - While not the longest route - only 60 kilometers/37 miles - it's a very busy stretch of track featuring 35 stations and a huge amount of variety, from S-Bahn, RB, RE, IC, ICE and several international services, plus lots of DMU-operated services too. Part of this route's appeal as already mentioned is variety - and is exactly why the likes of Dresden-Riesa remains such a popular DLC
    - With Berlin to Potsdam, it would include one of the most iconic section's of railway in the world with the Stadtbahn, a 12-kilometer (7-mile) elevated section of track going east-west across the German capital
    - The route would include the stunning Berlin Hbf; playable services would only use the upper level east-west platforms via the Stadtbahn while the subsurface north-south platforms would be AI only
    - While the other iconic Berlin railway landmark, the Ringbahn, doesn't feature as part of the actual route, stations such as Berlin Ostkreuz and Berlin Westkreuz intersect with it, so plenty of AI traffic seen using the DBAG 481/482 here
    - The main S-Bahn line from this route, the S7, is also home to one of the Berlin S-Bahn depots at Berlin Wannsee
    - The route would be in a present time setting, but the only difference are services in real life operated by ODEG would in-game be represented as DB; not completely unrealistic as RE1, which nowadays is operated by ODEG, used to by DB with 182s etc
    - While the DB BR 143 is hardly around anymore, the loco had still been present in relatively large numbers during the 2010s in Berlin after having been reintroduced to provide much-needed capacity until being ultimately replaced by the 147. Thus, the 143 could provide some extra rolling stock variety and would not be totally unrealistic
    - Some unique services like the Harz-Berlin Express
    - Mastery Reward could be something like Berlin's famous yellow trams and/or U-Bahn

    Trains Included
    Core Stock included with route:
    - DBAG 481/482: First German third-rail rolling stock in TSW and would operate S7 services between Berlin and Potsdam as well as other remaining S-Bahn lines along the route (more details below). Also, these trains have such great sounds!
    - DB BR 182: To represent all basic RE and the occasional RB regional services. Gives chance for the 182 to be fully upgraded to a brand-new standard similar to the OBB 1116 Taurus already in-game.
    - DB BR 442 Talent 2 (5- and 3-car variants): To represent all remaining basic RE and RB services in and around Berlin and Potsdam. Would bring a newer 5-car variant to TSW as services in this regional can typically be formed of 8 coaches, featuring a combined 5+3 configuration.
    Layered Stock for extra services:
    - Regional: 112, 114, 143, 146, 628, 642
    - IC: 101, 1116, FlixTrain Vectron. Meanwhile, the Railpool 193 Vectron and MRCE ES64 U2 (182) can represent international services from operators including PKP Polish Railways, Cesky Drahy, NS etc
    - ICE: ICE 1, ICE 3, ICE-T

    19.jpg
The DB BR 182 would be one of the core locos to come with the route, representing many Regional services. It would be nice to see the 182 receive a major update, considering it was a loco DLC originally for Rapid Transit!

The DB BR 442 Talent 2 to come with this route would bring a brand-new 5-car variant to TSW

    Route

Ahrensfelde (NE Berlin) to Golm (part of Potsdam to the SW of Berlin):
    - Route Length = 55 kilometers/34 miles + 5-kilometer/3-mile S75 branch line to Wartenberg = 60 kilometers/37 miles
    - Starting at Ahrensfelde would provide the entire length of the S7 S-Bahn line to Potsdam Hbf.
    - Meanwhile, the small S75 branch provides several additional playable RB services from Berlin Ostkreuz as well as plenty of AI freight traffic which runs adjacent to the S-Bahn tracks.
    - Ending at Golm may seem odd rather than just Potsdam Hbf, but actually has a very logical purpose. For instance, Golm is the start/end point for RB23, one of the main services from this route. Additionally, between Golm and Potsdam Hbf there are plenty of extra RB services with the Talent 2, a bonus DMU service to Potsdam Charlottenhof while Golm itself has plenty of passing AI freight traffic to enjoy.
    - Overall, there's quite some interesting service patterns around Berlin and Potsdam, with trains heading in different directions but actually going towards the same destinations, either going via central Berlin or bypassing around the outskirts.

    11.jpg
Berlin Hbf is both a beautiful and busy station. The upper level tracks, as shown here, go east-west via the Berlin Stadtbahn and are complemented by the subsurface north-south platforms below Picture taken by me

Services, Duration, Playability and Rolling Stock

    Playable Services*
*This is not meant to be a completely accurate timetable list, but rather a general overview of nearly every playable and, later, AI service (see further below) too. From the playable services list, many shown are just in one direction, so to be clear, this isn't necessarily a complete timetable, but provides a general indication of route and service pattern overview; as expected many services obviously operate in the other direction to the point of initial origin; for example, S7 below shows Ahrensfelde to Potsdam, but of course does the opposite too. Only exceptions to this rule are either less frequent or unique services.

Regarding choice of rolling stock, they either match that as per reality. However, if that rolling stock does not exist in TSW, then the closest possible match; for example, a service operated by a single ICE 2 unit can be replaced with an ICE-T in-game, whereas many DMU services can be operated with the 642 etc.

All services listed are from the latest/current schedule to give an idea of what type of services and stopping patterns can be expected. Some services shown may also include those from a weekend schedule.

Any errors/corrections or suggestions which go to improve this then please let me know so I can update - and would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Several international services from Berlin are operated either by the BR 193 Vectron or ES 64 U2. In TSW, these services can be represented in the timetable by either the Railpool 193 or MRCE ES 64 U2 Picture taken by me

This DB BR 112 is about ready for departure from Berlin Hbf
    Picture taken by me

    S-Bahn
    S7
(Potsdam Hbf to Ahrensfelde) - playable for entire route = 71 minutes: DBAG 481/482; Frequency = Every 10-20 minutes depending on time of day
S1 (Berlin-Wannsee to Oranienburg) - playable between Berlin-Wannsee and Berlin-Nikolassee = 2 minutes: DBAG 481/482; Frequency = Every 10-20 minutes depending on time of day
S3 (Berlin-Spandau to Erkner) - playable between Berlin Westkreuz* and Berlin Ostkreuz = 29 minutes: DBAG 481/482; Frequency = Every 10-20 minutes depending on time of day; *During very early morning hours and very rarely during afternoon, S3 serves Berlin-Grunewald (station before Westkreuz and technically not part of its route) which would add an extra 3 minutes to the service duration time above
S5 (Berlin Westkreuz* to Strausberg Nord) - playable between Berlin Westkreuz* and Friedrichsfelde Ost = 36 minutes: DBAG 481/482; Frequency = Every 10-20 minutes depending on time of day; *During very early morning hours some very occasional select S5 services also serve Grunewald too and would add an extra 3 minutes to the service duration time above
S9 (Berlin-Spandau to Flughafen BER) - playable between Berlin Westkreuz and Warschauer Straße = 27 minutes: DBAG 481/482; Frequency = Every 20 minutes
S75 (Warschauer Straße* to Berlin-Wartenberg) - playable for entire route = 22 minutes: DBAG 481/482; Frequency = Every 10-20 minutes depending on time of day; *However, at four times per day, S75 extends to Berlin Ostbahnhof which would add an extra 3 minutes to the service duration time above

    Regional RE
    RE1
(Magdeburg Hbf to Frankfurt (Oder)*) - playable between Potsdam Park Sanssouci and Berlin Ostkreuz = 49 minutes: DB BR 182 and Dostos**; Frequency = 1 x Hour in each direction; *Not that Frankfurt!; **Nowadays, RE1 is operated by ODEG, but was previously by DB with the 182
RE2 (Nauen to Cottbus) - playable between Berlin-Charlottenburg and Berlin Ostkreuz = 24 minutes: DB BR 112/114/143/182 and Dostos; Frequency = 1 x Hour in each direction; *DB nowadays uses locos such as the 112 or 182, but has with the 143 etc in the past too. Players who already own the 112/114/143 in TSW can choose to have more loco substitution variety in addition to the standard 182
RE7 (Dessau Hbf to Senftenberg) - playable between Berlin-Wannsee and Berlin Ostkreuz = 33/34 minutes: DB BR 442 Talent 2; Frequency = 1 x Hour in each direction
RE8 (Wismar or Wittenberge to Flughafen BER) - playable between Berlin Zoologischer Garten* and Berlin Ostkreuz = 22 minutes; DB BR 182 and Dostos**; Frequency = 1 x Hour in each direction with services towards Wismar and Wittenberge alternating each hour i.e. each destination is served every two hours individually; *During very early morning hours RE8 serves Berlin-Charlottenburg which would add an extra 3 minutes to the service duration time above; **Nowadays RE8 operated by ODEG
Flughafen-Express FEX* (Berlin-Charlottenburg to Flughafen BER) - service playable between Berlin-Charlottenburg and Berlin Ostkreuz = 23 minutes: DB BR 182 and Dostos; *FEX only goes via Stadtbahn on limited, very early mornings; normally this service terminates at Berlin Hbf's north-south subsurface platforms and hence would only be AI
Harz-Berlin Express HBX (Berlin Ostbahnhof to Thale Hbf and Goslar) - 0711 service playable between Berlin Ostbahnhof and Potsdam Hbf = 40 minutes: DB BR 642 operating these DMU services which in reality are by Abellio
Harz-Berlin Express HBX (Berlin Ostbahnhof to Ilsenburg and Thale Hbf) - 2120 service playable between Berlin Ostbahnhof and Potsdam Hbf = 35 minutes: DB BR 642 operating these DMU services which in reality are by Abellio
Harz-Berlin Express HBX (Potsdam Hbf to Berlin-Lichtenberg*) - 2008 service playable between Potsdam Hbf and Berlin-Wannsee = 6 minutes: DB BR 642 operating these DMU services which in reality are by Abellio; *Goes via Berlin Gesundbrunnen
Harz-Berlin Express HBX (Berlin-Lichtenberg to Potsdam Hbf*) - 0741 service playable between Berlin-Wannsee and Potsdam Hbf = 10 minutes: DB BR 642 operating these DMU services which in reality are by Abellio; *Goes via Berlin Gesundbrunnen
Harz-Berlin Express HBX (Thale Hbf and Goslar to Berlin Ostbahnhof) - 2014 service playable Potsdam Hbf and Berlin Ostbahnhof = 46 minutes: DB BR 642 operating these DMU services which in reality are by Abellio

    Regional RB
    RB23
(Golm to Flughafen BER) - playable between Golm and and Berlin Ostkreuz = 54 minutes: DB BR 442 Talent 2; Frequency 1 x Hour
RB12 (Berlin Ostkreuz to Templin Stadt) - playable between Berlin Ostkreuz and Berlin-Hohenschönhausen = 13 minutes: DB BR 642; Frequency = 1 x Hour
RB20* (Potsdam-Griebnitzsee to Oranienburg)/RB22* (Potsdam-Griebnitzsee to Königs Wusterhausen) - playable between Potsdam-Griebnitzsee and Golm = 17 minutes: DB BR 442 Talent 2; Frequency = 1 x Hour; *RB20 and RB22 run as a combined service throughout the day between Potsdam-Griebnitzsee and Golm, typically as a 3+5-car formation, although sometimes as 3+3 too. At Golm, they split before continuing individually onto their destinations. The reverse happens on return service i.e. they form together again and continue back towards Potsdam. Interestingly, the display screens on each train show their respected and different service number to each other i.e. the 3-car formation would only show RB20 and so on.
RB21 (Potsdam Hbf to Berlin Gesundbrunnen) - playable between Potsdam Hbf and Golm = 10 minutes: DB BR 442 Talent 2; Frequency = 1 x Hour
RB24 (Schönefeld (bei Berlin) to Eberswalde) - playable between Berlin Ostkreuz and Berlin-Hohenschönhausen = 13 minutes: DB BR 442 Talent 2/DB BR 182 and Dostos; Frequency = 1 x Hour in each direction
RB25 (Berlin Ostkreuz to Werneuchen) - playable between Berlin Ostkreuz and Ahrensfelde = 16 minutes: DB BR 642; Frequency = Every 30-60 minutes depending on time of day
RB26 (Berlin Ostkreuz to Müncheberg (Mark) or Kostrzyn) - playable between Berlin Ostkreuz and Berlin-Lichtenberg = 3 minutes: DB BR 642; Frequency = 1 x Hour to Kostrzyn, at certain times Mon-Fri RB26 becomes 2 x Hour with services to Müncheberg (Mark)
RB32 ((Schönefeld (bei Berlin) to Oranienburg) - playable between Berlin Ostkreuz and Berlin-Hohenschönhausen = 15 minutes: DB BR 182 and Dostos/DB BR 442 Talent 2; Frequency = 1 x Hour in each direction

Many services from both DB and ODEG share the lower level north-south platforms at Berlin Hbf; in TSW these would all be AI traffic as this isn't the Stadtbahn
    Picture taken by me

    Notable AI-only Traffic*
*Impossible to add every AI service but gives some examples
    - S41/S42 Ringbahn services at Berlin Ostkreuz and Berlin Westkreuz
    - RB37 at Berlin-Wannsee
    - RE6 (Prignitz-Express) at Berlin-Charlottenburg
    - Passing freight traffic at Golm, plus also along S75 branch at Berlin-Wartenberg, Berlin-Hohenschönhausen and Gehrenseestraße
    - FEX, RE3, RE4, RE5, some RE8 services, RB10, RB14, plus IC, EC, RJ, ES, FLX and ICE traffic at Berlin north-south lower level platforms

    20.jpg
With several older-gen Dosto coaches still present, like seen here at Berlin Ostkreuz on service RB24, hopefully DTG will finally have some more variation for TSW Picture taken by me

That's all! Appreciate this was a very, very long read. Let me know what you think and whether this deserves to be a route for TSW! :)

But then the question remains, we get a Desiro Hc for the case
    csm_ODEG_RE1_6a6718d8dd.jpg
Will we even get the Desiro or just a lame pbzfa, then it depends on which year it plays

Wow! What a brilliantly detailed proposal. Looks very doable in terms of scope and rolling stock while having excellent service variety. Hope DTG take notice.

Would love Berlin in TSW. One of my favourite European Cities.
I'd recommend people go there in real life too!

I would also love a part of the RE 1 Magdeburg-Cottbus with the Desiro HC

Or they Took the years before 2022 and then we have the PBZFA with the BR 182 Taurus

Well, being realistic, you have to assume a new route would come with just one new loco, which would be the S-Bahn 481/482, hence having the 182/dosto and 442 as existing but updated stock to complement. But, obviously it would be great to have ODEG EMUs as perhaps as loco DLC if licencing isn't an issue.

    Thanks very much! Yes, hopefully.

Much agreed. So much history and culture - and a great rail network too.

Nice idea, the imagination of having
a German route around in the capital with some S - Bahn and regio/ intercity traffic would be very cool to have!

Many thanks! Absolutely, considering how long TSW has been around and the many different German routes, it seems odd Berlin has not been featured. What makes certain TSW routes outstanding, whether Dresden-Riesa or SEHS etc, is variety, long-term gameplay with a busy, well-known and iconic route - and hopefully Berlin-Potsdam ticks all those boxes!

Thanks! :) Absolutely, the more the better!
