"Metro Rivals" trademark On the 29th of November 2024, a class 9 trademark application (incl. video games) was published under the name "Project Subway" for RailSimulator.com Ltd (Dovetail Games). By the name we can determine, that the game might focus on rapid transit systems, e.g. the London Underground. Keep in mind, that all we have is this trademark application and no other details. So, what are your thoughts? PS: "Project Subways" trademark was withdrawn; new trademark appeared under the name "Track Titans" PPS: "Track Titans" trademark was also withdrawn on the 27th of March. PPPS: New trademark under the name "Metro Rivals" was filed on the 31st of March.
Could be a series of road underpass simulations. Can you get past the hoodies graffing up the walls/smoking weed/dealing drugs unmolested. Extra AP if you dodge the Lycra clad idiot on a bike who comes storming through on the wrong side of the path! Level up to get a personal alarm and can of mace… Seriously though could be interesting and if DTG are doing an “urban” spin off from TSW then why the clod wasn’t that the big reveal at Christmas instead of Thomas.
Can we just point out how awesome 'Project Subway' is as a name (I love names that start with 'Project'). How did you find out about this? Just casually perusing the gov.uk website or something? I reckon it'll be released in 2026 or later, unless they did development well before getting the trademark, which apparently is bad practice. I guess they looked at the numbers for the Bakerloo Line and the Long Island Railroad and decided that they warranted their own games...
I was searching on northdata for some unrelated information and decided to take a glance at DTGs dataset. There I saw the mentioned trademark. A quick search on the website of the Intellectual Property Office and here we are.
Or maybe it's for the next stage of City Transport Sim. Trams, then Subways, then bus and taxi. Complete shot in the dark guess.
One to pose a question about on the next Roadmap stream, unless DTG Alex would like to confirm or deny what’s in the pipeline! Of course as speculated, it could be another second or third party project like CTS which DTG have adopted as publisher but definitely following with interest. I for one quite like Bakerloo in TSW or the Virtual District Line in TSC, not to mention the tube routes which used to float about on BVE back in the day. I just hope it is genuine Subway/underground routes and not a variation on TSW’s ,Rapid Transit which was essentially heavy surface rail S-Bahn with a short underground section.
Not a lot of point in raising this in the Roadmap stream. If it is announced today, it will be discussed in the stream. if not, it will be ignored. In any case, the roadmap is for TSW so it is unlikely that any forthcoming separate Subway simulator will be mentioned (at least in any detail).
Oh I will still ask, I’m a tenacious son of a biscuit. Will also be asking about the future of TSC as that also doesn’t get a roadmap. In fact, why don’t DTG have a quarterly roadmap for all their products, not just TSW but the fishing etc. too?
Hopefully if the cat is out of the bag, it might be addressed - perhaps cryptically! Mods will undoubtably have seen this thead by now. One wonders, putting my tin foil hat on, whether this was supposed to be the big reveal at the end of "Season of Reveals" but was scuppered last minute, so they went finished with Thomas and just accepted the storm it created.
It would probably have been welcomed far more readily, too! Come to think of it, this could be why we have not seen much in the way of "underground" lines in TSW, despite the frequent requests usually at least two a week for one of the London LUL lines. Imagine if we got the Northern or Central Line network, or the Metropolitan/District Line in its entirety. Jumping ahead probably, but we can hope!
Starting on the London Underground system would be an interesting addition, especially if it was an unlockable "network." I doubt it will be though if it's even anything. Many times they just register trademarks "just in case someday"
Well they can’t really cry foul and sack all the beta testers like they did with the TSW5 leaks, if the information resides in the public domain. Best thing they could do is to quiet things down either by saying it’s a long way off if it happens at all, or get set people for a big announcement in the near future.
Their best option is to say nothing at all, it'll quickly quieten down as people get bored and forget.
Not me! I want my 1979 Northern Line with 1938 and 1959 stock, plus the narrow island platforms at Angel and done the Morden extension. Jeez those were scary.
Mmmmh that’s why JD is very silent these days, to avoid any leaks by mistake. More seriously I wonder if it’s an attempt to diversify their catalog of simulator games, they have trams via CTS, now a possible subway simulator because Subway Sim 2 is coming soon, then probably a bus and truck simulator. I won’t say no but judging by the current state of TSW they’re not in a position to do any other game(s) if they can’t fix TSW5.
But you won’t get the weirdly named “Battersea Power Station Station”. Personally, I’m not fussed about the Northern Line as it’s mostly tunnels, unless it is part of a complete network with the whole Underground (either as a complete project or with different lines sold as DLC). I think the cut and cover lines would be more interesting as these have more external scenery and double line tunnels so you at least pass other trains.
Virtual District Line in TSW, particularly if it had a mix of CO/CP, R, D78 and S stock would certainly work for me.
I have that, played it many times. Good fun. I meant specifically sandwiches though. Maybe simulating being a sandwich
Likely a tycoon type game, possibly on a different platform. I can’t see any reason for a separate game for subway lines that could just be sold as routes in TSW. Fictional city, plan your routes, build your routes, expand your fleet, that kind of thing. Not really a simulator. That’s my guess. Now, let’s have a look at DTG’s other new trademark, Heroes In Flames. What’s that going to be? That’s a real head scratcher.
I seriously doubt Docetail will discuss any upcoming un announced content in a stream with any one. So prepare to be dissapointed. Hentis
I've got a sneaking suspicion that they've obtained publishing rights to that woefully bad metro simulator thing that's been floating around on consoles for a few years and they're just going to add it alongside Tramsim as part of their railway collection. Besides, is there any real point in Dovetail Games spending precious time on a project with no guaranteed success when they could just as easily add something like that into a ready made TSW as a £33 DLC?
Aha, that's the one. A grand total of three reviews on XBox....all of which were in the 'waste of money' category.
Good idea. I had this route on my old PC with the S7 but after updates, TSC ran like a tortoise (with no option to revert to an earlier version). It’s much better on the new one so I’ll have to dig out all the requirements and the latest version and install it.
The opposition period was already extended on January 27. The name was probably too generic and faced denial from some other third party. I'll keep an eye out for any new trademark applications by DTG. I doubt they filed a trademark just for fun.
I have asked the question for the Roadmap stream but it does seem this may have been pre-emptive future proofing rather than something that is live now. It will be interesting to see if DTG respond, though I suspect they won't!
And we've got a new trademark application. Now under the name "Track Titans". https://trademarks.ipo.gov.uk/ipo-tmcase/page/Results/1/UK00004161202
guess it wasn’t deleted after all! Anyway. I feel like DTG could do the successor of Train Sim World this year. Like they did with TSC, when TSW was the new kid on the block. History could be repeating itself. However, with this name..”track trains” this is definitely adding uncertainty to where the games franchise is steering towards. are we going to steer towards a less simulator game, and more of a casual gameplay experience?
Until now we only have the name. And whilst it is a bit of a cheesy name, I wouldn't say that it hints towards a more casual train game. I am a bit confused about what the product will end up being, as both "Project Subway" and "Track Titans" are probably names for the same product. And whilst things like the Thomas DLC are moving away from the simulation aspect of TSW, we've also gotten the BR 101 Expert and other great rolling stock from third-party developers. So in general TSW isn't moving away from simulation but rather expands its range.
Just speculating but maybe we’ll have some kind of carrer mode something like that, or we’ll be acting as a TOC CEO etc. But yeah it’s really too soon to say what DTG is preparing.
In which case, let the speculation begin! For the UK a Deltic. For the USA the GTEL. For Germany a V200/BR 220. Yes please. Day one. Off to Sainsbury’s for some more Steam Gift Cards!
If TSW is already being replaced then that says a lot, when TSC is still going even if DTG no longer are working on it I suspect this will be a new timetable alongside TSW but it will be interesting to see what evolves.
