Same here... though for me it was TSW 5 rather than 4. You really don´t miss much after stepping off the endless carousel of DLC. It´s like quitting cigarettes. After a couple of weeks you are over it for reason you stated: DLC is just abandoned after release and does not change or get fixed. Unlike Train Sim Classic DLC... Hagen-Siegen from 2012 is still beeing worked on by the freeware community. Version 4 of Hagen-Siegen released a couple of months ago on Railsim forum representing Hagen-Siegen in in modern day state with KS signalling. In TSW Ruhr-Sieg Nord just stays as it was many years ago. Same goes for all the other routes in TSW. It´s just a bunch of small little worlds, that release in whatever state and never change afterwards. It´s just not for me and if other people enjoy that kind of thing, that´s fine. In TSW it feels like most players gather on these forums listing wishes about what DLC could be made and how DTG can fix old DLC. But at the end of the day, it´s all just talk and going round and round in circles, waiting for the next fix, with nothing actually happening besides the usual formular (Mannheim-Kaiserlautern) along the occasional "wow" every two years by Just Trains and TSG. It´s very preditable and boring for me personaly.

What you said here is pathetic:
    As is this:
Learn to ignore people instead of replying if you don't like what they say.

If you play with feathers get your *fill in the blank tickled*...

Look, the last thing you want is to get warning from moderation team on Monday. So just chill out for second.

This forum is full of lively debates. I'm not saying who is right or who is wrong, but when you start hurling insults at people it will be matched and drag an arguement on unnecessarily. Sometimes you have to accept you have provoked a situation. You're both probably nice fellas in real life and would get on fine, so don't let a debate like this turn personal over something it doesn't need to.

It's good to have a lively debates, but it doesn't need to turn into hurling insults, it doesn't aid your argument and it seems a little unprovoked.

I'm not trying to be a moderator, but see sense and recognise what you're saying is not adding to a debate it's just name calling.

Yes, it's always the same small group of people ( pun intended ) that resort to foul language and personal insults, often choosing the weekend when they know moderation is minimal.

The solution, as we've been told time and time again, is to completely ignore them. But many find it impossible and then engage in a " my Dad's bigger than your Dad " back and forth which is exactly what these trolls want.

I've finally decided to uninstall TSW. Even with its many problems I've enjoyed TSW for many years and played every title for at least 600h individually. But since TSW 5 I'm just annoyed by DTG. Performance on FTF is still sh**, bugs just keep getting carried along and Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn is just an insult for a quite awesome route. DTG has a product with so much potential and keeps driving it into a wall. And whilst some third-party developers are releasing good DLCs, I'm just annoyed at the direction DTG seems to keep turning back again.
In the past TSW had the advantage of being unique with its graphics and gameplay features, but the competition is catching up. If DTG is starting to fix the bugs and starts to put some effort beyond the bare minimum into the development of new DLCs I'm happy to return.
I think this screenshot says enough about the lost appeal in playing TSW:

Completely agree with you there. A very good post!

What seems to get under my skin more then anything when this valid criticism is brought to their attention is the response we get is: "well our numbers show its selling X amount of has this much mileage achieved by players... " which comes across as very dismissive and as a complete deflection away from the criticism. For me at least that attitude is a bit of a kick in the teeth... It just comes across as "lap it up, or leave it. It doesn't bother us now we think we've got said amount of players in".

I don't think DTG see it themselves yet, but if they continue down this route it may push enough players away, and by the time they've fixed it and decided to revert the game to a very good quality with good DLC it might be little to late to gain the consistent players back...

Would you say that in general, TSW4 runs better, as in more optimized, than TSW5? Seems 5 needed a little bit more tweaking and still seems more stuttery? Even to the point of suggestions that we not run dynamic weather because it is affecting performance?

DTG has shown often enough, that as long people will buy it, they won't change. Players can complain as loud as they want, but in the end, the sales are what counts. If enough people want to support this behavior with their money, that's fine for me. I'm done supporting this. If the annoyance outweighs the joy of playing it's time to stop.

DTG must understand that JUST Trains will not be able to bail them out every year. And I suppose DTG have also finally realized that with this engine you can no longer do anything serious and you have to start from scratch and they are delaying this moment as much as they can. Therefore, we are waiting for the satisfied faces of the employees again at the presentation of TSW6 a couple of "innovations" and short term "wow" effect from the new masterpiece of JUST TRAINs

How are the sales numbers for Ludwigsbahn anyway? If the lack of reviews is anything to go by, they're down substantially which could be a good thing. Maybe customers, even those that aren't around here on the forum etc, have finally decided to not buy these mediocre releases anymore? Maybe something good will come from it? (Probably not but hope always dies last ey).

I've given up on DTG and I think I will deinstall TSW soon and not even waiting for Wales. The potential of this game is just left on the ground, for me it never took up despite early enthusiasm for it. And this really make me sad because I really want to drive trains, I have a lot of fun doing it. But over and over again DTG especially ruins the fun, wether with technical issues or with short comings from routes or stock.

I find myself playing tsc a lot more than tsw these days. I'll spend 20 hours or more on tsc a week, compared to 20 mins or so on tsw.
I was hoping tsw would be a good replacement for tsc but with the door pretty much closed for third party development. And the door completely shut for people like myself, that would be more than happy to correct the mistakes dtg don't seem interested in fixing. It's no match, never will be!

I haven't played TSW for several months now but that's jointly down to a refusing to purchase any more content after they upped the addons prices to £29.99 (you honestly don't want to hear my opinion about the latest price hike:o) and the fact that there's only so many times you can play the old stuff before it becomes a little too boring.

If truth be told though, having trawled through a mountain of comments that have been posted since my last visit I can't help but feel TSW is still on a bit of a downwards trajectory in the old quality control department, so in hindsight it's not an entirely bad thing that I decided to take a breather from the forums and direct my interests elsewhere because even back then the talking to a brick wall thing was enough to make me want to tear my hair out so I dread to think what many more months of [what felt like] fruitless discussion would have done to me.

One question I really, really need to ask though is what on earth is "over shap"?
I've seen it mentioned multiple times and really can't think what it could possibly be.

The new(ish) Just Trains route from Preston to Carlisle in the 80's, aka "WCML Over Shap". Regarded as probably the best UK route for TSW to date along with the Class 87 tap changer AC electric. Marred only by the performance issues and sound glitches which periodically impart a "lip smacking effect" or oscillate what should be smooth sounding electric sounds.

Are you perhaps asking about the geographic feature known as " Shap Fell "?

Not myself being from the UK perhaps Vern or someone could better describe it?

All I know is that it's the highest point on the West Coast Main Line.

I just answered above your post. Shap is indeed a geographic location on the route, both the Fell and a small town, more like large village.

    Don't give them ideas.

Coming soon after 3 months of announcements of announcements dates, a fireside chat, a full timetable, and multiple project deep dives.

    The Parry People Mover.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised any more.

Was concerned to see no mention of performance issues in the roadmap article (unless I've missed something). They promised significant fixes in the new year. These have not yet been delivered, and if swept under the rug (which I recognise is likely) would be most disappointing.

No mention and this is why I’m eager to see the Q&A thread for the Roadmap stream to go up, but they seem to be holding out.

Precisely! And from what’s been reported in another thread, the preview of Mittenwaldbahn has the sound distortion/squelching and stuttering evident every 10 seconds or so on the preview stream. Not good at all. How can the senior management of this game sit on their hands and not do or say anything about the state it’s in?

{XboxX} I left TSW to play MSFS year ago, expecting to play trains hardly ever since then. Now after shameful MSFS2024 premiere and conduct I found time to give a TSW5 go, finding it in much worse condition than year ago. It seems to me that,, quoting someone's words, "Worseimpro" politic is common to all devs ( and politicians, artists, writers, directors, etc) . Worseimpro means improvemts which overall worsen the situation

Exactly this?! Imagine how bad it was, if this is seen as an acceptable state for it to be in! Don't get me wrong, scenically the route looks beautiful but if performance is going to take such a big hit, it hardly seems worth. I'll be VERY interested to see how it performs on console.

Judging by some of the massive discounts on TSW and TSC in Festival Of Rail, I would say they are definitely pushing for a bit more cash flow.

Your absolutley right, i didnt buy the "newest slop", which was announced even with an entire list of whats unfinished. I guess this new feature "we'll (might) fix it later rubrique" became standard with TSW5. On top for a route in its unfinished state and with No new rolling stock, its not worth the price.

Not a single new freight wagon for the Ludwigsbahn, seems DTG just doesnt give a damn F. after what did JT well with Preston - Carlisle. Anyway i dont care.., no money from me at this.

Just bought Salzburg to Rosenheim and Suffragette on sale. I may get Ludwigsbahn when the price drops but wont be paying full whack. Chances are when its reduced it will have whatever is missing added or someone will have a mod for a new timetable. A lot of older routes are getting some re use from me thanks to the communities hard work.

I just did that with Semmeringbahn. It's okay but no way worh £30. The 1116 seems very basic and has some odd quirks. I'll probably do my next run over there in a unit.

Will probs get Semmeringbahn in next sale or expert 101. Limiting myself to £20 spend per sale. Only break that for the likes of JT stuff.

Semmering actually better when I started a night run with the 4024 and they seem to have done a reasonable job with the town and city lighting. Swinging through those curves and tunnels with snow on the ground quite zen and relaxing before bedtime.

I've got £50 credit in my Steam account (a present from a very generous friend).
I will buy the North London Line when it comes out, then I'm going to save my money for either a 730 pack or something in East Anglia/East London. I'm not complaining about TSW here, I've been making cut-backs (particularly with subscription services - I've cut all but MS 365 and saved £100 per month already) since my wife lost her job and I've been placed on indefinite sick leave because my job and my disability are a bad combo.

I suspect many others will be choosing their purchases carefully now the poorest in society are being forced to pay for tax breaks for the rich.

If you rewind to this time last year then you can't help but notice that history seems to be repeating itself. A chunk of rushed routes & addons alongside a staggering (upto) 85% off TSW4....almost like they were taking whatever means necessary in order to meet April 1st requirements.

Another thing I find a bit puzzling. When DTG introduced the last price hike all the forum apologists were quick to point out that interest rates were through the ceiling (which they were) and "the devs have gotta pay their bills" or "the devs have gotta eat". Yet here we are 5-ish years later with not only those self same interest rates FOUR TIMES less than what they were, but TSW addons possibly in the preliminary stages of another price hike! "devs still gotta eat"? "devs still gotta pay the bills"?
I don't like to state the obvious here but hasn't anyone considered that it might have nothing to do with food consumption or keeping warm.....it might be more about the hardcore element having to pay an ever-increasing premium in order to financially compensate for ever-decreasing unit sales?!
Just saying......but cue the apologists anyway;)

Just becase Mittenwaldbahn is at higher price doesn't mean DTG,s price point has gone up.

Niddertahlbahn, Blackpool, Expert 101, WCML over shap all were at higher price points, but DTG's routes have remained the same.

So it only seems to be 3rd parties asking for more. Specifically JT and TSG

This has also crossed my mind honestly and it's one of those things which really confuses me. Apart from TSG and JT honestly I haven't seen much content that could justify the new £30-£32 price tag. Which I think puts a lot of people off buying new content. And by hiking up the prices surely you sell less content as a result which furthers the problem? Especially the way things are releasing at the moment. Are new people who are just trying out the game going to sort with £30 on a regular basis to try new routes?

I think my main issue with this "Devs have to eat" is that it should not be an excuse for poor standard of content. That's not an excuse for bits releasing unfinished or without that little finish touch. I think the best way I can kind of explain that is you can see the love put into BPO and WCMLOS as well as the TSG content which isn't quite there on other bits from what I've seen personally.

And I'd also like to point out I was one of the many who supported DTG with steam content price increase despite the state of it and look where that got all of us :)

My only query with this is do third parties have much of a say? If you remember the Cargo line volume 1 release Adam at SHG put up a post saying something along the lines of "DTG have priced this at £9.99". Unsure on the exact wording but it was making it quite clear that was a DTG decision.

I think its more of a situation that the 3rd parties are making up for whatever commission DTG are making off of them.

I wouldn't doubt if you worked out the price difference in percentage it would equal what DTG's cut is.

But of course its just a guess.

Not strictly true. They charged £30 for the Ludwig route whereas previously a route release without a new train was selling for £25. That is a substantial price rise however you look at it.

Whether there was a stealth price rise was a question I posed for the Roadmap Q&A was apparently ignored. So make of that what you will. Interesting to see what Cardiff City sells for. A very small route, with two new items of rolling stock, albeit one looks like it's refurbished from the original Rivet version and the 153.
