Welcome back to the Train Simulator 20 Screenshot Contest!

This is the 3rd Week of September 2019

This week's theme: Freestyle (freestyle again, but it's ok - feel free to test your skills with the new graphical settings :))

Follow us on Instagram (instagram.com/trainsim) to see your screenshots featured on our feed!

    How it Works?

Every Friday the Dovetail team will be choosing the winner of the previous week's contest, announcing the winners immediately and opening the new week's thread with the new theme.

    • Screenshots must fit the theme of the week, as stated at the end of this post.
    • Official content only. Please make sure anything that is not available on the Steam Store or Dovetail Store is not shown in the screenshot. - This means no reshade, repaint mods, track upgrades or workshop routes.

    • Your entry may be disqualified if it is deemed to not follow these rules. Please limit chat to only when absolutely necessary.
    • Competition closes at mid-day Friday (UK time). The winner will be chosen internally by Dovetail team every Friday.
    • Winner's Prize: The winning screenshot will appear in the game as a loadscreen for 4 weeks!
    T&C:

In 1986, a GWR Castle class leads a railtour along the north Wales coast line from Llandudno towards Holyhead. The mixed stock reflects the period when preserved coaches (red, chocolate and cream) were mixed with British Rail's blue and grey livery, which was just starting to be replaced at this time. The blue-grey stock would've been taken from regular service, while the preserved stock would've come from preserved railways. This train is 14 coaches long, so we can safely say it's a Summer holidays special. The train is pictured here leaving Bangor station, before entering the tunnel to the west. Shortly beyond that, the train will cross over the Menai straights onto the island of Anglesey.

You can't have any 3rd party add-ons unfortunately. I see that you have the AP Track Enhancement Pack and what appears to be RW Enhancer.

Wow! Absolutely stunning. The new black and white filter really makes this look like one of those classic old steam engine photos in my grandpa's books. I'd be delighted if this wins. Great shot!

I'd love to include some shots, but I'm pretty certain using RW enhancer is against the rules even though the route and loco are official. Here's a shot of the Gatwick Express old school, class 442 on it's way to London.

Yeah you can't use RW Enhancer. I don't think you're supposed to post pictures that break the rules here either. It is a really nice shot though!

And in an ideal world, the shot below would be acceptable :) How about a truly freestyle competition thread to show what TS2020 can be capable of with less restrictions?

    Thank you mate.

I can't see myself downgrading the work I've put into railworks64 at this stage but I would really appreciate the opportunity to take part in screenshot competitions that feature on the splash loading screens, perhaps in an unrestricted category. Dimitri, could you possibly arrange this and get a stamp of approval from the main man? No worries if not, if you don't ask, you don't get :)

There is a screenshot thread with no rules if you want to post there instead. You don't get your pictures featured but it is nice to get feedback from fellow users. I also use a lot of mods, from visual to sounds, but I just enter with unmodded stuff. I may or may not use sound mods on some of the entries but you can't tell so it really doesn't matter ;)

This would be great. I've always struggled with the "no add ons" rule because 90% of my screenshots (including most of the best ones) are ineligible because they use a non-standard livery or non-standard rolling stock. One time I had someone complain because I posted a picture of Flying Scotsman and somebody objected that I had a freaking sound pack installed. Ouff....

Except the SSS sound packs also significantly change the particles, so the steam and smoke coming out is visibly very different.

You can't blame Dovetail for only wanting to promote their stuff, indeed it might get them into trouble if what they show requires extra cost options outside what they are referencing on the screen shot.

It seems very petty that not everyone can take part, or have their screenshots featured because of minor differences.

To be perfectly frank, I thought TS looked pretty garbage when I first installed it. The splash screens, no matter how talented the pic taker, look like they were rustled up on a Pentium 133 back in 1998. The 3d graphics are dull and lifeless.

Invest in a few 3rd party add ons and the whole package begins to shine and look like it was made in 2019. It can _almost_ look photo-real. Which makes a huge difference for simulation immersion.

I think, at a business level, DTG should perhaps partner with the very best 3rd party providers and endorse as official add ons, as this benefits absolutely everyone.

I'm not one for petty exclusions. If it's a good looking screenshot, or an end user has spent £800 on official DLC and £400 on unofficial DLC and weeks tweaking their rig to support an ageing and badly maintained framework to offset neglect in investment of said framework, then the very least the parent company could do is allow a few screenshots.

Because, really, who's it hurting? Nobody.

Reminds me of a Stuart Lee quote, "Get back in the sea..." :)
