Someone's comments on another threat made me think about the lack of a Mk 3 EMU in TSW, I realised that the oldest British era EMU we have at the moment is the Class 465 Networker. With these workhorses from the 80s and early 90s disappearing fast from our network, which would you like to see DTG make? Only two in the list couldn't be used on a TSW route they've served; the 317/2 and 455 (updated design)
321/322 probably have the broadest base for use, especially if we ever got a GEML route or more Glasgow suburban.
Biased towards the 320 because you could use it on Cathcart Circle either alongside or as a substitute for the 314. But as it's the 3-car version of a 321, you could at the same time make a 320, 321 and 322. Although it would be good for the 320 to have 2 versions. The original non toilet version with no yaw dampers that was limited to 75mph and the post 2011 version with toilets and top speed of 90mph. And with the 321 you have a home for them on the WCML South if you wanted to turn the clock back. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/nse-legends-of-the-wcml.87450/#post-951932
I'm voting for all of them as I LOVE the MK3 EMUs! Easily my favourite EMUs out there on the network. As long as we can give them a proper thrashing and they sound good, I'm happy with any really.
Probably going to go with the 321 because it could be used on a broader amount of routes, and also the 320 variant could substitute into Cathcart Circle.
I voted for the 455s and 456. Sadly I think if we do get a route out of Waterloo it will be with the 701, as DTG only want to do ultra-modern content, not even backdating by just a few years.
The problem is that, lots of these (the 322’s & 456’s) 317’s, 321’s & 325’s, will never run again (or are all Scrapped, making them extinct). So it will be harder for a developer to find a realistic reference and data to recreate the rolling stock. Personally think the 320 & 455 are suitable candidates for the fact they’re still running. But time is running out for the remaining classes.
Not necessarily. AP have an extensive back catalogue of reference material DTG could come to an agreement and use. Definitely not impossible.
All of them would be nice but the 319 is my top pic, I don’t really mind whether it’s Northern, Thameslink or even Connex as long as it’s in game.
Ugh really tough choice :/ I’ll go for the 319, 321/322 and 455, I really appreciate their loud and screaming DC motors, especially when accelerating. DC motor sounds are becoming more and more rare to hear so let’s enjoy while we can. The 455 might be a reason to have a route in the south of London, who knows it might be easier when it’ll be renationalised as SWR contract won’t be renewed.
I may do a poll for Mk1-based EMUs units too. As they're also considered as 1st Generation BR multiple units, I'll throw the couple of classes that were based on Mk2 coaches.
Does the 442 count? I’d give my right arm for one of those in GAX colours (and both arms if it came with the 73 thunderbird)
Yes it does, that was quite the oversight on my part. I mean they're literally MK 3 coaches with cabs at either end.
And of course reused the traction motors from the 4 REP’s. Though never having travelled on a 442 (believe it or not) couldn’t say whether they ended up sounding the same.
A 319 would be a brilliant addition to the Brighton Mainline, turn the clocks back but only by a few years
I travelled on them back before they went on the Gatwick Express and can't recall them sounding like the 4-REPs but the 442 coaches were pretty quiet so they probably well sound-proofed. I see them as the Class 309s of the southern region. Amazing express trains that should have been built for other lines, especially given that both classes were rescued by other TOCs and repurposed.
I think it would be an earlier period, rather than current. They had to ‘improvise’ on the 484 on IoW, as no licence for SWR, but they have managed to get EMR even though it no longer ran services, so an SWT Version could be possible. 350s as 444s and 450s, 700s as 707s would make the route feel alive, and 378s at Clapham and Richmond.
319 winning it at the moment. Probably because it would add something to not only the London to Brighton line but also on the ATS Manchester Commuter route and as AI for the Glossop route. Like the popular 321 and also the 317/1s they were used on so many different lines that they'd useful on a number of ATS routes. The 317/1s ran out of Fenchurch Street, Liverpool Street, Kings Cross, Moorgate (Thameslink) St. Pancras and Euston, in case some of those routes get built for TSW. The 321s didn't run out of St.Pancras but since introduction in 1988 on the London to Cambridge line did run up north around Leeds & Doncaster, some made it to Scotland converted to 320s (Cathcart Circle and Scottish Express routes) and some have now been converted to parcels units and pop up all over the place.
I'd love to see the 318 and 320 come bundled in a Glasgow network-style route at some point - some combination of the Argyll and North Clyde lines, covering the tunnels via both Central and Queen Street Low Levels. Really old school dirty and dingy stuff down there!
