Hello. Recently I bought the Stanier mogul sound pack from SSS. I cannot figure out how to get it work. I have tried reinstalling the loco, deleting the stock sound files completely, and many other things. If anyone knows how to solve this then any help greatly appreciated. I have emailed SSS but I am yet to receive a response.
I presume you have this loco installed ? https://store.steampowered.com/app/1515068/Train_Simulator_LMS_Stanier_Mogul_Steam_Loco_AddOn/
Yes that is correct, I bought it off of steam a few months ago. I have tried reinstalling many times and it doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure if it is a file issue as I have used SSS sound packs for locos bought off of steam before without any issues.
You don't need to reinstall the Loco if it is the SSS Sound pack that is not working. Check the instructions for the sound pack to see if you missed a step
I did think to check instructions that came with the download. However the download from the website seems to only be the installation software. I did buy the sound pack a few months ago so maybe repurchasing may fix it? I honestly have no idea.
Did it come with an Installation .exe file and if so did you Run as Administrator when you installed it? With this game once you have purchased anything you don't have to buy it again as it would be the same software
I don't know the answer to this, but the question needs asking of somebody that does - does this sound pack apply to the model available from the precision Loco Developments site, the one on Steam, or both? Whilst the two sites offer essentially the same locomotive, it is unlikely that both are identical. The Steam Sounds Supreme web page refers to Precision Locomotive Developments but isn't at all specific, and provides no links that I can see. Their Facebook site refers to Bossman Games (the old name of the same trader) but the given link to their site is dead. It is possible that this sound pack isn't intended to work with the version available on Steam. John
Thanks, Trev - in that case Oscar's issue must be the installation procedure, perhaps you can guide him. John
Is the sound pack installing to the right location? I expect it probably is, but it's worth checking on install that the path it's using to the Railworks folder is correct. BTW, I don't have this pack, so can't help further.
Ok something I have noticed. Installing off of steam creates one file titled "LMSStanierMogul" which only contains the the AP file named: "LMSStanierMogulAssets.ap". Then after installing the SSS sound pack it creates another file titled: "StanierMogulPack01" which contains all the usual items you would expect to be in a loco file, with a separate SSS sound file inside. This seems strange to me and is the only loco that does this. I tried combining the files but this usually results in not being able to load the loco in game. I have no idea why it is doing this and if this could be a cause of the issue.
I would guess that they named the loco packs differently and the sound pack wants the version bought directly from PLD. I discovered there's a few locos where this happens when I downloaded some weathering textures from GAD. One example is the SR Schools where the steam version is named 'SRSchoolsClass' but the GAD reskin wants puts the files in 'SchoolsClassPack01.
I have just purchased the LMS Stanier Mogul from Steam at 50% off in the sale and the pack from SSS installed it and it works perfectly. Your install path should be, your drive\ Steam Library \steamapps \common \Railworks \ the installer will find where to put the files. To see if it has installed look inside your Railworks folder Assets BMG, StanierMogulPack01, Audio and you should have a SteamSoundsSupreme folder there with the Mogul sounds in it. I have most of SSS software and have never had an issue with them only when DTG released an update for TSC 2024 which stopped a couple of routes from working properly.
Interesting. This gave me the idea to rename the original file to the the ''01'' file. This seemed to put everything in one file. Sadly this now only allows me to spawn in tenders and not the loco. I am honestly stumped with this.
The SSS installer does all of what you mentioned correctly. The problem is steam installs a different file which the SSS sound pack doesn't use, but this file must be kept separate for the loco to work. I'm not sure why it is doing this and how to fix it. I may just bite the bullet and buy it again directly from PLD.
I don't understand you Steam installs a different file. Steam has nothing to do with the installation of the SSS Mogul Soundpack. Who is PLD and what do they have to do with this?
Sorry, PLD is the new name for Bossman Games, who make the loco. What I'm trying to say is the steam is installing a file that is different to what the sound pack works with. As Heardturkey pointed out that the files may be slightly different. However this doesn't explain why it works for you.
I have just purchased both the Mogul in the Steam sale at 50% off and the soundpack from SSS and everything works 100%.
Then I honestly don't know what the problem is. I think it may be an issue with steam in some shape or form. Perhaps when I bought it off of steam a few months ago it was out of date. I have no idea.
So let's clarify things here. Where did you by the Mogul from Steam or PLD? I still don't understand you about Steam trying to install a file different to the sound pack. Do you mean Steam Sounds Supreme? It is just a straight install which takes a few seconds to install. So you have checked that you have the files in your folder as per the screenshot.
^This is what steam installs and what is contained in the file. This must be installed and separate for the loco to work. This also means that default sounds are used. ^This is the file that appears when the SSS installer is finished. I believe this is the file that you have. It is worth noting that packs with ''01'' at the end of them come directly from PLD, whereas the e.g. the schools came from steam. This is strange as I have used SSS sound packs before without an issue so I am truly puzzled here. The problem seems to be the file titled ''LMSStanierMogul''.
Yes, I have both those folders but the SSS sounds are in the 01 folder. I ask you again where did you get the Mogul from Steam or PDL? No, the o1 pack comes from SSS. You can manually install the sound pack by first installing it into a separate folder on your computer then manually copy and paste the o1 folder into your railworks assets BMG folder.
I bought it off of steam as stated in previous replies. Manually copying the the 01 folder to my BMG folder still yields the same result of having the loco work but using its original sounds.
I will buy the loco directly from PLD and see if that works. This does truly seem to be unexplainable. Either way thank you all for your responses and trying to help. Cheers EDIT: After purchasing the loco from PLD I can confirm the sounds are working correctly=)
That is very strange as I got my Mogul from Steam. Usually buying something from another source like PLD than Steam it sometimes won't work as the file structure could be wrong ie have the wrong installation path. I'm referring to the SSS Mogul pack.
I would be more inclined to contact SSS (which I have) as the loco worked fine in the first place. I'm just happy to have gotten it to work in the end.
I don't see what contacting SSS will do as this pack has been out for a couple of years. Unless other people have had the same issue they won't do anything and if they have they would have released an update to fix the issue. Before you purchased it again did you try uninstalling the Mogul and the sound pack?
It might help to specifically determine which locomotive the sounds apply to. The Steam Sounds Supreme web site clearly states it applies to the Precision Loco Developments locomotive, whereas you say it applies to the Steam version which is described there as made by Bossman Games. We know that they are one and the same business, but there is a heck of a lot of ambiguity there which could certainly do with resolving. Maybe the pack works with both but we don't know . . . John
I am suspicious that it doesn't as the Steam version installs to a differently named folder than the BMG/PLD , bought direct, version and the sound pack tries to install into the directly bought folder. A look at the SSS site and I found this: Although a different loco , there is no such 'Bonus Extra' comment for the mogul.
BMG and PLD are the same company and run by the same people, with just a name change. I don't know why some people are getting confused about this, as it is fairly straightforward. Most of PLD software was released under the branding BMG Bossman Games. Anyway, this thread is getting off-topic as it concerns the OP's issues with the LMS Stanier Mogul, which have now been solved.
