    Can I ask what version of Windows you’re on and are you using lossless scaling?

    Beast mode can actually give me more fps in certain situations. For example, in the Innsbruck roundhouse I was getting significantly more fps sitting in the 1020 cab than with ultra. When there’s more vegetation it’s the other way around.

    I was ripping my hair out a bit earlier as I couldn’t figure out why my GPU was very heavily utilised but the clock speed and temperature were both very low.

    I should have reiterated that now Microsoft have fixed the problem, Windows 24H2 is worth updating to and it really matters which capture mode you use lossless scaling in. There wasn’t much difference between WGI and DXGI under Windows 23H2 but under the 2024 update the difference is massive, for me at least. Under WGI my GPU usage was approx 90% and nothing I changed in the ini was altering it. When I remember I’d made the change I switched back to DXGI my GPU utilisation dropped to 50%, the clock speed doubled and I could play the game as I remembered it, including some bonkers LODs on Mittendwald.

    In a nutshell, given Lossless Scaling now works fine with the new windows update I’d suggest updating and when done make sure Lossless Scaling is set to DXGI as the capture mode.

    That suggests you’re maybe being CPU bottlenecked in certain scenarios. By making your GPU the limiting factor it explains why you’re seeing better fps.

    It's possible, although running a 4090 and a 13-600K.

    Ok, maybe not then!

    Out of interest, do you use lossless scaling? I’m still using it with a 4090 and the results are amazing really. Given Nvidia seems hell-bent on frame-generation as the future I figured why not.

    I’ve got to say, ‘beast’ mode + ‘better shadows’ mod on WCMLOS looks stunning; going over Shap on a late June evening, the lighting is fantastic and with a distinct absence of suffering the immersion killing distant cuttings, embankments, trees and overbridges being in full sunlight until youre nearly upon them. The ‘better shadows’ mod is a real game changer and this JetWash mod, as ever, gives the best lighting and graphic setting results you could ever wish for.:cool:

    Yes I sometimes use lossless scaling frame gen to push it to 118 Hz (with game fps capped at 59 Hz) with good results. I have set up g-sync as per Blur Busters (https://blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101-input-lag-tests-and-settings/14/) and apart from the occasional UE traversal stutter, it's all running super smoothly on my 4K 120 Hz TV with 100% in-game scaling. :) Did a run on Boston-Worcester this morning which I grabbed in the sale, what a nice route!

    I've not been on TSW for a while, noticed there was a couple of updates for this mod. I leave 1.6 the beast until I get a new PC (awaiting release of GTA6).

    I must say, what a difference V1.5 has made, vastly reduced the stuttering, yes I still get the UE minor ones but are barely noticeable, so an excellent job there.

    One question JetWash is it possible to change the outdoor brightness when sitting in carriages as a passenger, without having the brightness in the carriage also change.

    I just find some of the carriages have the default windows tinted far too high (390 Pendo for example) and 12noon in Summer can look like 5pm during Winter. I've tried enviroment settings in godmode but not always useful, just wondering if there was something in the ini settings I could use.

    Oh also, is there something that can be done on the 801 on the ECML where passengers go completely black when going through tunnels

    Hey Jetwash do you by chance know if dovetail removed Denuvo from tsw 5 aswell? I believe removing this has a massive improvement on performance from what I've read online.

    I have a 4080 Super and I used beast mode yesterday and my true FPS in places was 18fps on Mittenwaldbahn. But I was using lossless scaling. But I don't think I'm on 24h2 yet or the latest Nvidia driver. This is with 1440p on 200%.

    Hiho JetWash, yeah I know, I'm really really late for the party. Yesterday I've had a look into your mod and was surprised (in a positive way) how easy installation/implementation is now. Years ago it was overwhelming and I stopped reading when the Nvidia Control Panel came up ;-) Good ol days ...

    Anyway, before I thank you on the mod page I don't want to use it to query you with a question: I've mad a run yesterday with the "Beast" preset and the Mittenwaldbahn - first things first - (capped) 60 FPS for the entire run (sunny), not a single loading hitch, ABSOLUTELY FREAKING AMAZING! The only (!) thing I noticed and I wanted to ask you is I have the feeling, that some of the trees were kind of "transforming" in front of me, some bushes dissapeared and reappered while my croc moves forward. I've had this issue with the vanilla ini and remembered that upping some distant scaling (not sure if it was ViewDistance or something else) fixed it completely for me, with the cost of FPS of course. I plan to copy over the distant-stuff from my old ini to my new ini (the one from your manual for VRAM > 10 GB) - will this work? I suppose you set this values dynamic on per route basis? Will my idea work at all? :)

    Anyway, I'm really amazed what you archieved (and shared with the community!!!) and will most definitely leave you a tip :-D

    Hi there! Thanks so much and glad it’s having the desired effect on your game :)

    I’ve been playing around with Mittendwald specifically as it is (happily) a very demanding route. I’ve been using the ‘Better Shadows’ mod as I’m sure that’ll prove popular and obviously have to be very careful as to how far I push these settings. By its nature the better shadows mod is also demanding on routes with lots of trees and terrain. I’ve been away working the last few days but am home now so intend to update the mod again before long. I’ve also noticed a couple of errant things have crept in (actually, to be fair, bescot spotted them!) which I’d like to tidy up too.

    I’ll go and have a look in a minute at what I currently have for that route. Draw distance and foliage LOD are the two things that hurt performance the most. I’m trying to balance this across the whole route in both directions and have found that heading South (towards Innsbruck) is much more demanding, with my GPU usage can varying from long periods at 40% to as much as 100% on the final descent in to Innsbruck. I’m pretty sure off the top of my head that the top 3 lines in the ini (view distance, foliage LOD and foliage dithered LOD) are set to 1 / 4 / 9 respectively now and I don’t see any pop-in.

    As an aside, I also discovered that if you use lossless scaling there are definite benefits (there were for me at least) to running the latest version of Windows (24H2), the latest version of Lossless Scaling and the capture mode to DXGI. Doing that literally knocked 40-50% off my GPU usage.

    Hiya!

    So first of all, I would like to offer thanks for this incredible work. Thank you so much, this mod really improves the look and immersion of TSW a lot.

    While I have been using the mod for some time now without issues, I did run into a rather interesting issue when loading up WCMLOS today that I wanted to share. Namely, everything looks like this:
    20250221041618_1.jpg
    The issue disappears when selecting another preset (like PBL) and also appears on other routes when selecting the Preston-Carlisle preset there. So I guess the issue is related to something in the preset rather than something to do with the route.
    The issue is easy to work around by simply selecting another preset, but I was still motivated to make an account here and share it.

    Is this also happening with this preset for other people or is it an issue on my end? Any ideas as to what is causing this?
    For the record, I am using the ultra version of the mod.

    I’ve never seen that I’ve got to be honest and this is the first report I’ve had of it, but definitely worth sharing. I have occasionally seen a similar effect when taking screenshots in TSW5 (but not to the same extent and never in photo mode) and suspect that, for some reason, it’s connected to Lossless Scaling in some way. That’s assuming you use it of course.

    I don’t really know what’s causing it, but there’s nothing in there that would trigger an effect like that

    Heya, sorry for jumping in again (even though I only did one or two more services since my last post this week) to ask about light sources flickering. I was experiencing this in the past with a different ini and got it of it sorted by removing a line from the engine.ini regarding something about Anti-Aliasing (IIRC - I documented it somewhere, currently not on my gaming PC while writing this) but that was with my old GFX and playing the game in DX11. I notice a slight (not strobo-party like in the past) flickering on the closest (to me) lamp posts, especially while standing still. Is this due to DX12 or are there lines (MITT) that could affect this in the dynamic ini?

    And may I politely ask you, JetWash, if you are working on an updated version for MITT (because of Foliage Distant Scaling, LOD stuff reported earlier) or if I should frickle around myself (no offence!) on Saturday? :)

    I’m working on an entirely new version at the moment. Which preset do you use out of interest?

    The flickering is impossible to get rid of as far as I’m aware.

    Oah great!! Thank you in advance! Take your time!

    I've had ULTRA first but after I saw Frankfurt Fulda with high FPS and MITT with constant 60 FPS I switched over to "The Beast" :)

    So it's an DX12 thing I guess :-\

    I no longer use lossless scaling since upgrading my PC last month, so I did some testing to see if I could figure out what the cause was. After removing every single mod and additional ini tweaks I added the issue still persisted, so that wasn't it. I then started playing around with the graphics settings of the game and quickly discovered the issue: it was the antialiasing. A few days back I switched the antialiasing from TAA to FXAA in order to see if that would affect some flickering issues. And apparently I forgot to switch it back to TAA.
    Now what is interesting is that most of the route presets seem to work regardless of whether there is no antialiasing, FXAA or TAA. But the Preston-Carlisle preset only works when antialiasing is set to TAA. When you turn antialiasing off or switch it to FXAA you get the effect in my screenshot. Or at least, that is what happens for me. Simply switching to TAA removes the weird effects and makes everything look great again.

    My PC has been out of action due to needing to be updated add to that that I started a new job and then got sick and I haven’t had much time for TSW.

    I finally got my PC up and running again and tried the new ‘Beast’ settings. Even without Lossless, it’s running pretty well and with it, it’s really smooth.

    I continue to be grateful for your work Jetwash. Having only played on PS5 for the last 3 months, it really was a massive difference with your latest updates.

    Not got any plans for the weekend and so it’s time to buy TSG’s new route and get back into the game a bit more.

    FWIW I just upgraded my machine to a bit of a beast and still use lossless scaling. I can make the game look unbelievable and still comfortably get my 30/60fps with between 40-60% GPU usage. That’s 4K running at 140% screen percentage.

    Apologies if this is covered somewhere in the previous pages but is Horseshoe Curve not included in this intentionally or has it disappeared in error?

    Nothing for that route in 1.6 or 1.6.1 versions of the mod.

    I don’t own the route which is why it’s not included. As I believe it’s not ToDv4 there’s not much can be done with it really so not worth buying. However, it’s easy enough to copy and paste one of the TOD3 routes and adjust the gamma levels to suit.

    Afternoon all

    Just a little post to update you all on some work that's been going on with this mod which, all being well, will be updated to Version 2.0 next week when Mild May releases. It's been thoroughly tested by a number of people and I'm confident this is now the best I can get this mod to be. There are many reasons for this but amongst the changes are;

    - The mod had become very difficult and time consuming to maintain. One change I could make to improve this and make my life easier was to reduce the amount of information in the GodMode element. As such, I’ve taken the much needed step of moving ALL non-route specific commands out of the dynamic GodMode.sav to the main engine.ini. This means that if needed I only need to make a single change to 5 files instead of 5 pre-sets x 61 routes (and growing) = 305 separate changes with every edit. This also vastly reduces the chance of a typo or error

    - I had been meaning to do something about the darkness under overcast skies for a while. Having worked on this for a bit I now believe we have a much better solution, almost like the last box is ticked. Driving under clouds up to about 4/5ths coverage is a much nicer and more realistic experience now, and the world should stay brighter (as per the real world) without becoming over-exposed and washed out. This adjusts the sun intensity but alongside that a lot of work has gone in to the skies and general lighting, including...

    - ...the addition of a subtle, extra volumetric cloud layer to Beast and Ultra. In addition I have brought back the higher level Cirrus cloud which adds more depth to the skies without washing out the lighting.

    - Added commands to enable lens flare as people had experienced it on Mittendwaldbahn and seemed to be into it. It's disabled by default as it's not to everyone's taste but there if people wish to give it a go

    Finally, I have recently uploaded the new Version 2 manual to TSC in the hope people read it before the mod gets updated. Why? The last version of the mod had close to 2000 downloads but the manual was only downloaded 987 times. I'm putting this in bold because it's important, you must read the manual and follow the instructions or this mod will simply not work as designed. Things have changed from previous iterations and without reading the manual it will not work properly! The good news is that to all intents and purposes the installation process remains very similar indeed. I've also translated the manual into German and uploaded that but it will be proof read and corrected around the time the mod goes live

    So that's that. The manuals can be downloaded from here;

    TSW 5 | Lighting & Visual Quality Enhancement - Train Sim Community

    and here's a few screenshots of a few routes for good measure.

    ps READ THE MANUAL :)

    Amazing work by the way!

    The lens flare looks amazing! However, I’ve noticed that it appears to be low resolution, with some pixelation and jagged edges around the flares. I’m not sure if this is because I’m playing a TSW2 route, but is there any way to improve the resolution or quality of the flare?

    No, that’s the funk bit. It needs setting up properly (like on Mittendwald) whereas this just enables it all the time. It’s a bit all over the place sadly.

    I think you should enjoy v2 when it’s out. It’s running very nicely on my 4090 and looking amazing.

    Oh, that's awesome to hear! I'm very excited. A while back you sent me a stack of tweaks to add there to help with stuttering. Are those going to be apart of V2 or is that something I should keep in there?

    edit: okay, so I have noticed on TOD4 routes the solar flare is much better! I really hope DTG makes this a route standard whenever the next re-issue of this game is released lol.

    Hi JetWash I downloaded your High preset but theres only a godmode.sav in it? Should there be an engine.ini file with the settings?

    One thing I wanted to quickly point out that I'll need to change in the manual. At the very end I make mention of the 'Better Shadows' mod and then of flickering on BCC. I was a bit perplexed as to why I was seeing this flickering and had a look at WCMLS and the same flickering was back at Euston. After a bit of investigation I discovered that it is the better shadows mod that is causing it to become apparent again.

    So get rid of it right? Well, that's going to come down to personal preference. They say a picture paints a thousand words, well once I had this mod, even with the issues it causes, I can't go back. To me this is what Ultra should look like by default.

    This is Mittendwaldbahn with the Beast pre-set and no better shadows mod;

    1.jpg

    and this is the exact same circumstance with it installed;

    2.jpg

    Again, personal preference but as frustrating as it is, I will take the lower res cab shadows and the flickering I've discovered in two isolated places over a realistic scene as above.

    Another thing to note is that I had alluded in the manual to the fact that I'd set up GWE and ECW to work with Muff's TOD4 enabling mod for non-TOD4 routes. After a request from one of the guys testing this for me yesterday to do a couple more routes I've gone all in and done the lot, over all 5 pre-sets. I never touch these older routes because the TOD3 lighting is just so appalling, and although this methodology means playing outside of daytime isn't possible and some of the signals aren't as bright as they should be it makes long-forgotten routes playable again. My advice is that if you don't wish to do this, and have a real hankering to play old routes at night time (eek!) then simply delete the pre-set from the GodMode ini for the relevant route and you can play with default TOD3 lighting to your hearts content.

    If you wish to get Muff's TOD4 enabling mod and haven't already got it it can be download here;

    Vlakové simulátory (trainsim.cz)

    As will all TSW mods the installation method is exactly the same, drag and drop

    It really is like getting some new routes

    I'd also noticed flickering after installing the better shadows mod and did initially think about removing it but difference it makes for easily 99% of the time is enough to have the odd location when stood have a little bit of flickering.

    You’re obviously misunderstanding something.

    v1.6/v1.61 is the current version with the associated manual.

    I have put the v2 manual up ahead of release because it is imperative people read it BEFORE installing that version, when it releases. That is clearly stated at the top of the page, underlined for good measure. There is no engine.ini file in v1.61, nor is there meant to be. The mod and manual versions are appended to the relevant files.

    If I’ve not made it obvious enough I apologise, but I don’t really know what else I could have done to make it any clearer.

    You are right mate serves me right for not reading properly. The difference in Mittenwaldbahn with your mod on pc compared to console is not even close! Great work!
