Just saw the pop add for this new route looks good but £25 for 11 mile is a bit on the steep side I think i thought it would have been £15 at tops but kudos to the guy who is doing.
When I see the effort put into this route by the sole developer, I will happily fork out my €30. Just my opinion. The only question for me will be performance on PS5. Will all those layers affect textures.
Considering it’s a one-man-army work and it’s a suburban line with 18 stations so it’ll be quite busy and not just going from A then stoping at B sometimes to end at C, I find the £24.99 price to be correct. £15 is more of loco DLC’s price.
For a one man show with new rolling stock and a load of bonus re skins for AI, I think £25 is reasonable. Was expecting £30 to be honest.
Its not even the full length if it was then I would happily pay £25 there not even that long these routes
Ps5 performance for this route will be like the rest of the routes. Poor. Tsw5 runs terrible on PlayStation 5 and dgt will do nothing about it. I've not played it for a couple of months now because of performance issues.
Rather pay 40 bucks for a full line than 25 for a half one. Despite being a no buy for me, infact the route looks great and seems to have a lot of traffic / variety.
Same here. At one point I had almost relented and was going to buy. However I don’t think we should let sympathy blind objectivity. It may be a one man project but it’s still being released as payware and therefore subject to all the caveats and checks that any other DLC needs to tick. If it had gone to Richmond and/or Clapham I’d have been poised with my mouse on Steam at 1801 on release day. However in the cold light of day, I already have numerous barely played UK electric bus stop routes (Goblin, Glossop etc.) the TSW5 core continues to be of concern as regards ever getting fixed, so there is absolutely no good reason to make a full price purchase rather than wait six months and probably pick it up for 40 or 50% off in a sale.
I hope the developer explores extending the route to Richmond. Would be an extension I'm willing to pay for. Saying that, I'd much prefer seeing the route being extended to Dagenham Docks as it would include Ripple Lane and would provide great opportunities for semi-full freight runs. I know many trains stop at Wembley for a while before continuing on their journey, a route hopping feature could be included so you could continue the journey to Milton Keynes. However I'm excited for whatever is to come from this developer. I have a feeling the next few releases will be London-centric as he was originally planning to create the whole of London so I'm excited to see what will be included.
100% agree, had it been the full line It would be a day 1 purchase for me. But being only half a route it doesn't appeal to me at . Sure it does look great, but as you said, the size of the development team doesn't matter, it should be treated the same as any other payware addon. And I'm not a fan when routes are cut at an unreasonable place
Personally I would wait for a sale with 50%+ and/or an extension because even if the quality is there, the length is not. I know that if I buy it in its current state I won't play for long because is short and linear like Glossop or Goblin and 30€ for that...no, sorry (+ I found 30€ has always been expensive for a route honestly) But I'm still hyped for this route and the 378 but I will wait my sale
WJ is probably quite a logical end point as it keeps everything the same and doesn't leave a "why have you included Richmond/Clapham but not Clapham/Richmond" situation - and also doesn't leave half of the services cut short while half are full runs.
Your points are well taken and, as I have said, I also don't need yet another electrostar bus stop London route. But I don't see purchasing this route as " sympathy ", rather a way of encouraging quality route building which is currently only coming from third parties rather than DTG. Plus, as a non UK player, unfamiliar with the real life route, whether it goes to Richmond, Clapham or some other suburb doesn't really matter to me. It's short yes, but it looks better than Goblin in terms of a busier timetable and AI stock.
I will be more than happy to explore London via rail in-game... in general one of my fav things in all railway-related stuff is the sound train makes when passing switches/joints in tracks, so when departing/approaching a big/complex station or switching tracks is bound to happen in such as London content
The shortened route is still 40 minutes with stops so more than long enough for a good run. Extension to CJ or Rich would have required considerable extra work to provide the huge array of AI services required at CJ or workable District line stock for the lower end of the Richmond route.
This electric bus stop route will sell more than any new steam route introduced to the game. Let that sink in. People want more routes like this, including myself. I couldn’t be more happier with this route coming to the game, since I commute daily to London on way to work.
Great. Btw a service is 40 minutes long still, so route length isn’t important. The scenery is what’s going to be the selling point, you’re not going to see all that whilst bombing down the line at 100mph like on the half finished WCML route
I agree and disagree at the same time if that makes sense? Richmond should have been the natural terminating point from Stratford and I stand by that as I've said countless times in other threads... However, I have changed my tune on this since I initially heard of it's announcement. I think the single developer has done a superb job with a great eye for detail, from scenery, to timetable and AI. It's really put egg on the face of other developers with a larger work force. I genuinely think given the vocal feedback even before its release, it will eventually be extended to Richmond in time. The lad does have his head screwed on and I want to give him confidence in his abilities as a developer and encourage such clear talent. Secondly, I think it's important to note, if he doesn't get the support he needs, the line may never be revisited by another developer as it would be considered 'done' already. I have changed my tune slightly and have hight hopes in the developers abilities and from his FB interactions I get the feeling Richmond will be included in time! I want to support such talent when there seems to be a decline of it elsewhere in the game at the moment and show my support in him developing this further aswell as making other content.
Absolute bargain in my opinion, new train. Plenty of new AI stock including new buses and taxis to make it look more realistic. I've no issue paying £25 for a one man project that makes other developers look sloppy.
I am afraid I am another dissenting voice. The route looks fantastic as does the stock. I wish the developer every success as clearly a lot of work has gone into it. However I see it as a route I would run a couple of times and not come back to. I will likely buy it at some point but not yet. If it was definitely going to be extended I would buy it now. For me, I don't mind a short route if you can finish a service, I wouldn't find this immersive giving up control at Willesden. I have found myself going back to TSC largely. I am getting a bit weary of modern shorter routes. Whilst I won't be abandoning TSW, with my shopping list of TSC stuff, TSW DLC is going to have to really get my attention now. I haven't bought the TSG route yet and that is something I dearly want. I will still watch the stream with interest and I can see that this route is going to be up there with the best quality add-ons.
I do hear what you say and as I said a bit conflicted. But ultimately it has been presented as a complete project with a payware price tag and that means a cold hard evaluation of what’s on offer for my entertainment and edification. Similar to TheOrganist above I am being more selective about what I buy for TSW, though in my case TSC is currently uninstalled. However what I will say is that I will be following along with the streams and release. Also unlike the half baked effort Rivet made with Bernina, there is a 90% chance I will pick this up the first time the route hits the sales. And if DTG were to resume their previous practice of a prerelease purchase 10% discount I could also be swayed.
That's as long as West Somerset Railway is. Isle of Wight is only 8.5 miles. What do they cost? That would seem to be a fair price. Although as always, it's up to personal choice and taste. I didn't find the Isle of Wight that interesting as a route, regardless of length but I have spent a LOT of hours on West Somerset, so it really is down to whether it's worth it to the individual. If you want numbers... just figure how many hours you'll spend on it and divide the price by that.... Yes some lines are cheaper per mile, but there is a certain economy of scale and minimum investment. A single person doing all the work on their own spare time might not be doing it for the money, but it's still time the guy has put in making it and you'll be enjoying it. Then DTG gets a cut. Then Steam/SONY/Microsoft takes a cut.
Exactly my point of view. Of all possible route choices in the uk, why pick a line which has a "too big" scope for the team, that the route has to be released as a half line. Short enclosed routes / lines are very much welcome and for me worth a full price purchais too. The second reason im going with a no Buy is, in case there wont be any extension, this wonderful line would be doomed in TSWs future. Because a separate attempt with the remaining "bit" would likly be a hot iron for every dev. Suggestion to devs: please prepare your route choice carefully if the team is not up to the scope.
The revamped Island Line 2022 is £13.49 on xbox and that includes a brand new train, so maybe not the best like-for-like comparison when trying to justify an extra 3.5miles for approaching double the price of the Rivet route.
It was rebuilt from the ferry terminal down to Ryde station and had a scenery revamp throughout, so not exactly a copy/paste job. At the end of the day though, the answer to part 2 of the "what do they cost" question is £13.49
Comparing Mildmay to IOW doesn't work, IOW has two trains going down it all day and that's about it, Mildmay while short has frequent stopper services, freight, tons of AI that make BML look weak in comparison and of course modelling London is a much more difficult task than the island. Is it worth £25? That's purely subjective but in my opinion yes. Goblin was also £25 and from what i've seen so far, this route has more going for it.
Well to be fair, Operator didn't specify which IOW. So taking the more applicable - not necessarily just the cheaper - of the two (the original route being scratch built with one new train, rather than a rebuild with a new train), it was £20 a few years ago now for a route that was shorter, came with the same number of new trains, and lacked all of the AI layering that Mildmay is going to have, so I would say a £5 increase over IOW is more than reasonable IMO
£25 is a very good price considering the effort put in by a single developer and the excellent standard of work shown to date. £25 is not very much in money terms today and you will spend that on a round in a pub these days. At least you will have something to savour for your investment, so dal#7945 stop moaning and pay the price for an outstanding route or wait a year and get it in a sale at 40% discount, the choice is yours!!! First day buy for me as it looks a quality route worth having!
Oh, you're right I didn't even think about the GOBLIN and that's actually closer to what you're getting than WSR or IOW. So yeah that could be very comparable. I was just thinking about lines I own and I didn't pick up the GOBLIN. $25.00 is what... an hour of work for most folks? In my mind, I ask if it's worth the time I'd spend working for the amount of fun I'd get out of the cost.
Train Sim World® 5: London Overground Suffragette line: Gospel Oak - Barking Riverside Route Add-On was also £24.99 on release and in the February Sale recently was £9.99. So the choice is buy London Overground Mildmay Line on the 4th or wait for a reasonable sale. End of!
One developer so not exactly a team, it’s clear the scope was too big but atleast we’re getting the route + new loco.
Very poor choice of words. This route was created by one person, for what they’ve achieved should be appreciated. If the end point doesn’t suit your standards, simply don’t buy it or wait for a sale (probably like what you did with the suffragette line). No need to attack the dev.
Sounds and Looks fantastic. Seems to be of JT quality from what's been shown so far. Day one purchase for me, price seems good to me. I hope it sells well and we see more from this dev.
You're being antagonising though? As mentioned by others in earlier, if you can't behave yourself you'll get the thread locked. If you have a dispute use the PM facility...
Well let's agree to disagree. I don't want this thread to be locked or anyone to get a moderator warning over something that's not worth it. I think that's fair enough?
Yes the work went into the route (judging from the pics) by this dev is very promising, and chapeau for creating a new train and route as a one man team. My point was an other one, and can be seen on the german Dlc br187, whch is one of the biggest cash grabs i have spent money since my change to tsw. As a supporter of this franchais for years now, who is gonna develop and release a br 187 up to standard? I like the loco and it deserves better than taken as a puppet dlc choice for a dev team who wasnt capable of. So as a huge fan of the london area railway network, chances of getting a full mildmay line are getting very low at this point, except this one dev might consider an extension
Good morning folks, this is your regular reminder to keep things civil and respectful. Arguing with someone online because they disagree with you is a waste of valuable time. Off-topic, argumentative posts will be edited or removed. All the best, Jan
I’m not familiar with the BR 187 situation, so I can’t give much input there. I will say that a product should be up to standards though and you have every right to be frustrated if it’s not. I have a feeling this dev may tackle more London content in the future, considering all the work that has been put into the assets on the route (TFL buses, Black taxi’s etc). So more overground routes/extensions isn’t off the cards. When it comes to London content I would definitely love to see more of Southeastern explored. The class 465, 466, 700, 707 preferably. TSC is my go to sim for that right now as they have the whole SE network created. I hope some day a SE network is made in TSW, obviously not to the scale of TSC, but say the Bexley and Greenwich lines starting from Dartford and ending at either London Charing X, Cannon Street. I would love to journey from Faversham to Dartford, then route hop from Dartford to Charing Cross on TSW.
Personally I wouldn't even consider the route until it has the full North London Line and the West London Line.
aka mildmay, as the mildmay line includes before north and west london lines, so calling it mildmay is still wrong ig.
Can anyone confirm the 378 layering onto other routes? I'm hoping it layers/substitutes onto the WCMLS Watford DC lines.
