Do you have the list ready for tonight’s live stream? You said you’d tell us the most requested routes during the stream on Tuesday.

I’d love 1, 2 and 6. But anything in the top 6 would be nice to have.

I can’t believe Cambrian coast is only joint 20th... it’s a beautiful part of the world and in cab signalling too good to see some healthy variation in the list though.

Overall I pretty much agree with the list. I'm surprised the Cumbrian Coast didn't make it on there at all!

I still think the Three Country Corner route would be the best choice.

There is no 46, there are several at 45. Sam called them equal 23rd but they are all actually equal 45th, and that’s how I put them.

This list is in my opinion a pretty bad representation of the entire community. It just shows that there is a large English speaking majority on the forums from English speaking countries, as the amount of British, American (and even Australian) routes is quite disproportionate.

I mean alot of people have not much info on other countries railroads, and are listed as such...
    45) Any Swiss route
    45) Any Austrian Route
    45) Any Indian Route
    33) Any French Route
    23) Any Scottish Route
    18) Any Japanese Route
    17) Any Italian Route
    5) Anything in the Netherlands
    3) Anything in Australia

Most of the English routes are usually listed by name, destinations or operators.

It’s not surprising for a company based in England that produce a game where there is a lot of content from English speaking countries to have a mainly English speaking fan community. The forum is English language too for those reasons. They do make an awful lot of German content too though. Nobody has engineered the community to be this way but it is easier for English speaking people to join in. I would be very unlikely to join a Chinese train sim community, so the North Wales coastal route would probably be under-represented in their top 50, as they would be missing my vote.

    No Yugoslavian narrow gauge... :(

Surprised not to see the Somerset and Dorset or Great Central on there, but guess that will come if/when steam traction arrives.

For TSxxxx there are many Dutch routes, all of them created by the Dutch TS community with some rolling stock from professional developers (Chris Longhurst created some nice scenery packs as well, which he gives for free). So there is a lot of interest. It took about four years to get the first route. Due to the lack of proper tools for TSW this is not happening for TSW, unfortunately and the interest from Dutch players for TSW is not very high. We Dutch would be happy with any first Dutch route. I would suggest to build one of the awesome regional routes. That would be not so hard to build. So I think this list is a bit biased.

Exactly right, but it's even more biased than that: this is a list based on those who have talked to us either here, on Facebook, on Twitter or on Instagram, and those who responded to surveys. Those who were merrily playing the game but not part of the conversational community didn't vote.

As mentioned at the time, this list is used by us as an indication of interest if we're torn between what we want to create. Some of what's listed will never be made (for various reasons) but we thought you might be interested in seeing the most popular suggestions we've received.

Germany being one of the three major countries (DE, UK, US) is almost not on the list. But there are a multitude of amazing German routes possible. They are especially versatile because they are not as siloed as the UK/US parts.

Hence my mention of bias - this is the community's list. If the community don't tell us what we want, we don't know to include it.

I certainly have seen posts with proposed German routes in the Suggestions forum. So the question is, what is the criteria for appearing on the front of this community list? Number of threads/posts/likes?

It is the amount of support something gets, yes. Ultimately you only need to appear on the list, how high up doesn't really matter - if we're looking for a German route to consider we'll find one that has more support than others. We won't decide not to do a German route simply because there are a dozen UK routes with more "votes".

How about the Portland Trimet Max? It has five routes: Blue, Orange, Yellow, Green, and Red.
Blue goes from Hillsboro, Oregon To Portland City Center and then to Gresham, Oregon.
Orange line from Milwaukie Oregon to Portland City Center.
Yellow Line is from the Portland Expo Center to the Portland City Center and terminates at PSU (Portland State University).
Green Line: Clackamas Town Center in Clackamas Oregon to Portland City Center and then Terminates at Portland State University.
Red Line: Hillsboro Airport to Beaverton Transit Center and terminates at PDX (Portland International Airport).
There are way more stops between those on all Five routes. you can see more Data about the Trimet Max system on their Website @https://trimet.org/max/
they also sometimes have Closures of part of the Routes like a few months ago they had Part of the Red Line Gateway Transit Center to PDX closed so a Shuttle bus was needed to take Passengers going there and back. But please make this and I would be happy because I am from Beaverton and I was Raised on the Max. Trimet has 5 different Trains they use on all of their Routes from Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, Type 4, and type 5. The type1s will be replaced by the Type 6 shortly later this year. they have some testing on the Red Line. So if you Ever go to the US again try Portland you might like it there is now much to do.

Interesting piece of history this thread is. 4 years after, it seems completely put out of context to our modern suggestion system, however in comparison to it allows an immediate view on what's requested more than another one.

I suppose back in 2020, the suggestion forum didn't exist. But how were routes requested (to be included in that list) back then? I saw they gathered information from social media. But how did that work exactly?

Are there any more information about how this list has been collected and entries have been listed (f.e. number of requests, geographic spread of the participants around the world, etc.)?

DTG Protagonist also "has left the building" on Dec 8, 2023 to quote his profile. Going by some comments, it seems to be the Sam I heard a lot about in this forum. Especially regarding the Preservation Crew.

I think it did. I’m pretty sure it’s been here as long as I can remember and I was around for this. As I recall, it was literally an insight into the information DTG had gathered across the suggestions forum (+ social media, apparently).

Yes, that’s Sam. He truly was of a different calibre. His streams were honest, blunt, and to the point instead of the far more marketing and PR oriented streams of today (no offence to all the community managers just doing their job). His decades-long establishment in the game industry just allowed him to approach his role differently than someone starting out or only some years in.

The suggestions forum was very much a thing in 2020!

If I remember correctly then this list was formed from that year’s Train Sim World 2 player survey. The end of each TSW survey asks one simple question: What’s your most wanted route for TSW? This list compiled all the answers to that one question.

EDIT: No. I’m wrong. They added up all the suggestion from the forums and various social medias.

By the way since it hasn’t been linked it this thread at all, this is the stream that has been being referenced! Sam starts talking about the list 26 minutes in.

Should DTG make another Top 50 most requested routes list since it's already 4 years when the last one was released?
