The Amtrak ALC-42: The Train That Train Sim World 5 NEEDS TSW5 fans, this is it. The moment we’ve all been waiting for. If Train Sim World 5 is going to stay fresh, exciting, and ahead of the curve, there’s one locomotive that MUST be added: THE AMTRAK ALC-42! This isn’t just a train—it’s the FUTURE of American railroading. It’s sleek, it’s powerful, and it’s transforming Amtrak’s long-distance network RIGHT NOW. We’ve driven the ALP46 and its cab cars. We’ve mastered the ACS-64 and its metroliner cab car. We've mastered the F40PH and the cab cars, Now it’s time for something NEW. Something MODERN. Something that will take Train Sim World 5 to the next level. No ALC-42? No complete Amtrak experience. Period. The FUTURE of Amtrak – And TSW5 Can’t Be Left Behind! The Siemens ALC-42 is already replacing the aging P42DC fleet (Not in TSW5 at the moment), setting a new standard for Amtrak’s long-haul service. 4,200 horsepower – Unstoppable power for long-distance routes 125 MPH top speed – High-speed, high-stakes railroading State-of-the-art Siemens technology – A next-gen driving experience TSW5 is about realism. It’s about innovation. It’s about the best trains in the world. The ALC-42 isn’t just a nice addition—it’s a NECESSITY. No ALC-42? No cutting-edge Amtrak simulation. Sound That Puts You INSIDE the Cab One of the best parts of Train Sim World is immersion. And the ALC-42 would bring next-level sound design to the game. The deep, powerful growl of its Cummins QSK95 engine The crisp, commanding horn blast that echoes for miles The smooth hum of traction motors as you hit full throttle Imagine standing on the platform as an ALC-42 thunders past, shaking the ground beneath your feet. Imagine sitting in the cab, feeling every rev of the engine. This is the immersion we need. The ALC-42 is built for Train Sim World 5’s advanced sound engine. The PERFECT Train for America’s Most Iconic Routes The ALC-42 isn’t just a gorgeous locomotive—it’s the perfect fit and can be an add on for TSW5’s most legendary routes: NEC New York - Trenton/ Boston Sprinter – High-speed action through the busiest corridor in the U.S. If TSW5 wants to expand its Amtrak routes, the ALC-42 is the locomotive to make it happen. More routes, more excitement, more realism. The ALC-42 is the key! The Most Beautiful Amtrak Livery Designs – In Stunning TSW5 Quality The ALC-42 isn’t just powerful—it’s a work of art. In Train Sim World 5, it would look absolutely stunning in: Amtrak Phase VI & VII – The sleek, modern Amtrak look 50 years Siemens Livery – A nostalgic throwback for history lovers Plus, with TSW5’s Livery Designer, players could create their own custom designs on the ALC-42 Imagine the screenshots. Imagine the community creations. Imagine the possibilities. Want more creativity in TSW5? The ALC-42 makes it happen. A Gameplay Experience Unlike Any Other The ALC-42 isn’t just a pretty locomotive—it’s a challenge that will keep players hooked for hours. ✅ Head-End Power (HEP) Management – Control power to passenger cars like a real engineer ✅ Fuel Efficiency Systems – Test your skills in long-haul efficiency ✅ Modern Siemens Touchscreen Controls – A sleek, intuitive interface If TSW5 is about realism, then the ALC-42 is a must-have. The Time is NOW – We Need to Make This Happen! The ALC-42 is already dominating Amtrak’s long-distance routes. It’s the most advanced passenger locomotive in America—and it belongs in Train Sim World 5. It’s fast. It’s powerful. It’s visually stunning. It’s the next step in realistic Amtrak simulation. Leaving it out of TSW5 would be a MASSIVE missed opportunity. We’ve waited long enough. Now it’s time to MAKE SOME NOISE and bring the ALC-42 to Train Sim World 5! it could probably be a future DLC I hope DTG will consider it come to TSW5, it is a nice looking locomotive feel free to chat or discuss below
saw a couple videos, drooled ... the question would then be, which variant they would do, cos there is pure diesel one, then one with battery car, and one that has panto power car... also the coaches look nice, but then, there arent yet delivered, I think? Isnt this the thing that has those Airo coaches? Or am I confusing things?
https://www.railwaypro.com/wp/amtrak-airo-train-assembly-begins/ one of articles... these look similar to your pics... it is essentially a US answer to EU/Austrian RailJet trainsets, very nice
oh wow thanks, i also forgot about the coaches and cab car they would definitely come with ALC42 loco add on if released
oh yeah, thats Airo ... those will roll into service late this year or next year, so atm I highly doubt they will make their way into TSW... but maybe an alternative could be this: streamlined Charger 44, with Siemens Venture coaches, vmax is somewhere around 130 mph, tho they rarely exceed 125, on BrightLine in Florida, but that one may be too long with too few stations...
Down the road I wouldn't mind these, but I would like to see them tackle the P42 and P32 first while they are still in active service
Siemens Chargers are a must-have loco for me. I'd love a Pacific Surfliner (SC44 in both PS and Coaster liveries), Amtrak Cascades (SC44), Brightline/FEC (SCB-40), or BNSF Stevens Pass (ALC-42) route to run Chargers on. The ALC-42E dual-mode version with an Aero Siemens Venture consist could be added to NEC. The ALC-42 could also be layered onto the Cajon Pass, Sand Patch Grade, or Horseshoe Curve routes. Matching passenger cars (Ventures, Superliners, Surfliners, California Cars, and Horizon Cars) are needed too.
That would be a good idea but these routes are freight routes and the ALC42 is a passenger train or maybe the freight routes might have passenger stops in them like CN oakville subdivision and the Cajon Pass route.
Probably yes, I would say, I think they're on testing, that's why I put it as an add on for the NEC: new York - Trenton and Boston sprinter mostly NEC new York - Trenton because alc42s are being tested I think at new York station, not very sure but it would fit with the route. And the variants, I think the three of them would do (the pure diesel, battery car and panto power) But even though things can change so if the Amtrak ALC42 had to come to TSW5 DTG might not have all the energy to make the three variants, DTG might make 1 or 2. But I definitely know DTG would add the airo coaches and the cab car because that literally has to come with the loco
The Airo sets are not even fully built yet, and far from testing. Metro-North has been testing their two new dual-mode Chargers out of Grand Central, but these will be different than the Amtrak units. There were a couple of ALC units testing cab signals on the Hudson Line at night not terribly long ago, but they are rare sights still in the Northeast.
Yes, I did find some videos of the train and idk if it's on testing or if it's actually in service, I don't think it's around the northeast corridor area but, yeah that's the video.
The ALC locomotives are in service, mostly on the west coast and the midwest. You do see them around Ivy City and out of DC for the Cap Limited and the southeastern US trains, but they are largely absent from the Northeast Corridor and their associated TSW routes. The Airo trainsets that are planned to run over the NEC routes we have in game, have barely started production.
