The quality control seems to vary massively, especially when some third parties are involved. The GOBLIN for example was excellent in my opinion. It was short, but manageable and rich with detail. These network routes offer variety but will be racked with the danger of corners being cut, and glaring errors across the route, particularly when there are some third parties involved.

They have already done one network route. You could say two really as LIRR surely is one.

I won't pass judgement on the route till I have seen some streams, you don't even begin to get an idea from a short trailer. From what I've seen I can't see anything to put me off at the moment.

It will hinge mainly on how the Sprinters sound for me.

Do we know when the timetable is based?
I'm trying to figure out the possible service patterns.

It was said in a q&a post that it was based around 2023.

Can't be much younger than 2022 seeing as Radyr isn't electrified in the route. OHLE masts started popping up around RDR and the city line by the 3rd Quarter of 2022 so should really be based 2021-Mid 2022.

Unfortunately took a backseat during my degree and now working most of the time haven't really gotten back round to it. Did restart the route making it better. Did have someone else helping but again it all needs to fit around peoples lives. Definitely need to get back into it, this TSW route giving me a bit of motivation to crack on with it!

Fancy helping? ;) ............that offer goes for anyone who is interested in Route Building in TSC!

:D My modelling skills are non-existent sadly. I can just about make working scenarios! The TSC editor is very finicky haha. That, and like you, with work; time is a premium. I’m surprised I’ve not seen you on any of my trains yet!

Just worth mentioning really that there will be no more EP’s along the lines of Fife Circle or WCMLS going forward, or at least not from the group that did those packs.

If you were planning to buy Cardiff on that basis then please understand that what you buy is what you’ll get.

I agree but to add on to that, surely as a dev you’d want to do it to the best quality first time round so it doesn’t need improving or expecting the community to make it better

I can't answer for the other guys but as someone who is also in the modding community, it's tiring having to fix things which should have been part of the base route to start off with. Especially so if the base route is missing so much in the first place.

Imagine paying for a route that you have to fix yourself because the developers don't make any effort. :D

As has been rightly pointed out in the past to myself, as much as I've ranted and raved about my suspicion of Rivets involvement, even if they are involved, if it is marketed as a DTG product the buck stops at them as they know of the valid resentment in the community with their involvement and still go ahead with allowing such things to go ahead.

I find it interesting that some mods have come out and said they will not be releasing extensive EPs like they have previously with other releases. That'll definitely wind DTG and PC users if the content is not upto scratch and which I think DTG seem to be relying on as part of their PC sales knowing EPs will boost sales regardless of the original quality of the route.

As London Midland said, why should it be down to them in the first place to fix things that should already be in place?

I am anticipating the preview in light of this.

I don't understand why it's set a couple years ago but there using the new timetable and anyway the old one fits the route better than the new timetable.
With rivet they probably let them do wcmls and ccn before they came out so they probably didn't expect it to be this bad.

Just so they have the excuse of running Penarth - Coryton services. Seeing the only services from Penarth on the older timetable were to Bargoed/Rhymney. They could’ve utilised the older timetable with the Cardiff Bay to Coryton shuttles whereas they’ll milk Cardiff Bay-Queen Street Shuttle scenarios.

So before 2024. Perfect, thank you.

Yeah I would too. Modding is a ton of work and skilled modders like londonmidland and crew deserve to be rewarded.
I was happy to see JetWash finally cave (;)) and set up a way to get a few bucks.... wait.. quid.. sorry.

Fife Circle, despite it's rough release, has become a favorite UK route for me because of the mods both of you worked on. And I'm grateful. It's such an atmospheric run.

Skilled modders becoming disenchanted almost immediately after the release of a public editor.. that makes me so sad. But I can't say I blame them for their disenchantment. Hopefully time (or the potential for compensation) will change that.

I'll use the truck simulators as an example. I almost exclusively drive payware modded trucks by Jon Ruda. If you know, you know.

I second that as well. I have made a contribution to a modder with great gladness as he and his mates do a fantastic job and I would not be with Train Sim World without them. I might perhaps run a slimmed down version of TSW with third party routes only.

I and many others were happy to pay Armstrong Powerhouse and others for their improvemnts to Train Simulator and would be happy to do the same re TSW. When I say happy, I would still be extremely annoyed at the need to do it at all.

Anyway the EP makers can be proud to have gone out in a blaze of glory over WCMLS not to mention their other fantastic work.

Bethesda had similar issues with Skyrim and the fallout series. Poor release after poor release, saved by the modding community every time. People eventually grew tired of it.

With two units (three subclasses) in total to form the bulk of traffic, I can see this route escaping some of the core issue flak of late. Frame rate will predictably drop around Cardiff Central though, with a few extra layers contributing!

DTG: We heard your calls for a new British Heavy Freight loco, we considered the Class 56, 58, Even the Class 60. But then we realised what you were actually asking for. Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you the remastered Class 66! (Crowd gasps).

They are hardly going to make a new freight loco for a route with very little if any playable freight traffic! What class of freight locomotive do you imagine is by far the most common not just in South Wales but in the UK?

I don't like the class 66 and too think there should be other freight loco's, but this is hardly the add-on to labour the point when it is a local passenger network!

Considering freight will only pass through Cardiff central, it’s only going to be an AI layer. It really wouldn’t make sense to be playable.

Yes that is what I imagined, and therefore don't understand the angst about the class 66 appearing. I would appear to be the logical option.

The only other option would be a 67… but they only operate LHCS.

The only real freight services that come through are 66 hauled.

Of course if the route had gone to Barry Island and at least Caerphilly in the north (as it should) there would have been some scope for freight with anything that comes out of Cwmbargoed at the time the route is set plus freight traffic heading for Aberthaw or Bridgend via the VOG.

The route could potentially layer in the RHTT train as well.

150 sounds are identical to the WCL one. Judging by their silence on Rivet’s involvement, I think we know the answer!

Confirmed by Matt, right now! Rivet Involved! In fact, this route gives me WCMLS vibes...
Scenery is good, but that 150 sounds... Physics has been revised, however. And that's a big step forward!
EDIT - Obviously, scenery is Rivet made! I think 70% of this route was made by them... It doesn't look bad at all, though! Waiting for 153...

So, Confirmation that Rivet have had a hand in this. I wonder if it's the stations, as they did a good job on them usually.

Haven't watched the stream, but do appreciate Matt being upfront on this. It is relevant important information for purchasing decisions. Not one for me I think for a variety of reasons, mostly being the core issues. Any mention of progress on these?

Haha the forum sleuths were right all along of course.

Hopefully DTG at least did the timetable themselves, that might just about save it if it's good.

Edit: any timetable clues from the stream?
