It depends on their operating model. Perhaps contracting isn't working very well for DTG but lots of software companies do it. I work at a software company which directly employs thousands of high-calibre software engineers and we still hire contractors for some things.
You think it's a dud. Some other vocal people here think it's a dud. Fine. But there are many people who appear to like it, despite its imperfections. It's totally ok not to want to purchase it but it's all the sanctimonious drama that goes with it that is completely unnecessary. Contrary to what you seem to think, most people tend to stop listening when they are nagged and harangued at length. I'm sure you don't behave like this at home but, if you do, I send my heartfelt condolences to your domestic companion(s).
l would say that some route designers are not up to the job. If l was designing a route. l would take so much pride in producing it correctly and would work diligently to make sure that it was accurately representing the original. I would never release it, like some routes have been passed for the public use. It makes me cross when l see such poor efforts in some parts of routes and that isn’t acceptable to the paying public. I could accept it in freeware offerings. I used to play golf games and the design of the game and courses are spot on, so why cannot this be achieved in TSW5.

Are we doing this again, really? If you want to, buy or don't buy. Not up to anyone else what they do with their money. Everyone has their reasons. I bought it because I like Sprinters, it's a network and diesel operated. Someone else hasn't bought it because a certain developer made it. Which is fine. Their choice to do that. Respect that, and stop with these petty arguments that don't get anyone anywhere.
Now everyone should listen to this woman she has the best solution on this matter, but lock up your best one liners, she likes to quietly steal them......

My personal opinion on why this route is selling: the vast majority of it’s audience isn’t from the area and thus, isn’t likely aware of its many glaring issues. Don’t forget, wales only makes up about 3m of the UKs 60m population. the route in itself is just good enough for those people to think it’s fine and worth the purchase. You also have those that are generally easy to please and will accept almost anything that’s served unless it’s 100% abysmal. It is also the first (and probably the last, hopefully not) Welsh route. There’s appeal for it regardless since the routes release, and what I’ve seen and tested today - I wouldn’t give the route any more than a 6/10. Bang average. Decent in areas, but woeful in others.
That’s your right I guess - I don’t think it’s overblown though. Some of it, maybe. But there’s 100% valid concerns that’s been raised. Surely most people can at least agree with that?
This is a HUGE nitpick on my part. I noticed earlier tap on tap off posters, which only came into play last year. The route is set in 2022/23 Mix of eras anyone?
As well as Cathcart. The remaster is set in 2024, all the Class 314s, apart from one converted to a Class 614, were scrapped after withdrawal in 2019. A mix of eras isn't too bad, as long as it doesn't go over the top.
It's probably not. I struggle to remember a single route that had a measly 20 reviews on Steam after 3 days of availability. Even Fife Circle, similarly plagued by Rivet involvement, had 30+ at a similar point in time. Review counts aren't absolute measures of sold copies, but you can compare DLCs between each other and get a rough picture. What we're seeing, in my purely speculative opinion, is the fact that no one besides hardcore supporters is buying on day 1 anymore. I know I'm not. And if my opinion of the route (which is negative) has been cemented, why would I buy it on day 1? So that I could leave a negative review, and then refund? Nah, too much work. I'll leave my negative review when this thing is 60%+ off. Which is bound to happen soon enough.
just responding to the claims being made. Should’ve added “probably selling” rather than just selling. But steam doesn’t just make up the market anymore. It’s epic and both main console platforms. I do agree, though. I think my point was also mainly about the core demographic of people that are currently buying the DLC.
I am trying to use the 153 in free roam but after a while I encounter an issue with the interlocking holding the brakes on. This affects all units coupled to the affected 153(s) but when uncoupled then only affects the 153 as I am able to operate the 158 on it's own that was with the two 153s this last encounter. I tried resetting the simulation physics but it didn't make any difference. I have noticed the GKS indicator turns in the opposite direction to the GKS when the issue is manifesting but in the same direction in a working 153, irrelevant to which GKS is being used.
You can't disable the interlocking, only AWS/TPWS/DSD. I figured out something is causing door defects and while tinkering with the doors on an affected pair of 153s there was a sequence that seemed to fix it [key in to a guard's panel, open local door on the platform side, open all doors on that side, observe any doors that aren't open, close doors, close local door, key out, go to the door that did not open, key in to that guard's panel, open local, open all (platform side), check all are open, close doors, close local door, key out]. After that exact sequence the train was once again driveable.
Aware you can’t disable interlock - but I found having AWS on sometimes caused issues. that’s a weird one, will keep an eye out on it if I ever pick the route up again.
One thing about the 153 interior. The lights appear to show through the PIS screens. I’m sure this is probably a reflection issue more than anything.
