Hi, I’ve been playing TSW for a few months on PC and apart from a few issues it’s been ok. I’ve taken full advantage of the train sim community upgrades which I suspect really do improve the user experience. I’ve held off the new Overground and TFL route because whilst they’re nice, I personally don’t feel the price is justified in my opinion. It’s my own personal opinion and I’ll probably wait for the next sale to pick these up. Do any of you play SimRail and how would you compare it to TSW? I know it’s entirely Polish driving but I’m just curious before I consider buying. Thanks
I will copy my comment from the similar topic Neraly any TSW's addon is meaningless. 90 percent of the routes are single-use. These are essentially closed, isolated systems without any real overlap- you will never get an physical extension of the route within the framework of the same rail-road network. While the addons in the form of routes in games like RUN8, ETS2 and now in Simrail make sense - you really get an increase in the territory, where in the future you will have multiple options for trips and interesting events in the living world, unlike the ossified and overscripted, I would add outdated TSW's system. Simrail has broad perspectives under certain circumstances, TSW - no. Personally, I get a lot of pleasure from driving process in SimRail. Every time you get into a new live situation, and when you exit the game, you realize that life doesn't end there - that there are services going on, the time of day is changing, people are going home or to work, some of the dispatchers are yawning at their modest stops, and there are those who solve serious problems. A commuter train raced by...here the heavy "bull " ET22 is pulling tank wagons past an industrial zone- each other day in the life of the railway is not like the previous one even with the same service!!!...Simrail is unique in some respect. And Simrail is less buggy than TSW, has less stutters and better lighting. The whole feeling of the railway is transmitted much better in Simrail.
I would suggest checking out this thread in the off topic section https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/is-simrail-what-tsw-should-have-been.62467/
I have Simrail, but do not play it much due to no US content. It seems okay from what I have played so far, but still needs a lot of work.
SimRail is good, the trains generally sound and handle very well and the scenery/graphics have improved as development continues. However as you will see discussed in the Off Topic thread, the focus remains almost entirely multiplayer. Very little progress being made on a better single player game. So although the overall route is very long, you can only grab a drive with what’s available on the MP server when you sign in. Then you can’t save to resume that run later from the same location. I would say wait for a sale and give it a go, there is fun to be had for sure.
The main thing to remember is that SimRail is only at the very beginning of the journey and takes a more innovative approachan the game design. Many things have yet to be implemented. While TSW has already exhausted its potential on the current game engine, we will not see anything new except an endless pipeline of useless and overpriced add-ons. TSW can use abb "OOO "- Overbugged, Overpriced, Outdated
I fire up Simrail once every few months just to see if any progress has been made with regards to a single player timetable mode (or heaven forbid a route outside Poland). As has already been mentioned, that no longer seems to be a priority for the developer. I use TSW however, nearly every day and love it dearly warts and all.
This is about my view. Progress has seemed glacial to me, and in some ways there's a lot to like about that approach compared to DTG's. They probably won't have to go back and fix a lot of sloppy code and/or live with the legacy of keeping 752 pieces of DLC all working together. The problem for me is that while there seems to be a good core developing, i just plain don't care for the currently available routes. I'm not sure why i dislike them so much- i play all the countries in TSW, so i usually at least like getting to learn about railways in different places, but i've bounced off these ones hard. The lack of SP content is concerning because while the MP is implemented very well IMO, 98% of the game's content relies on the servers being up, so if somewhere down the line the devs can't or won't keep them going, the game is basically dead. I doubt i'll buy any more DLC for it unless the rumored US freight route materializes, but i'll keep an eye on it.
I would say currently simrail can't compete with tsw. Apart from simrail having MP and tsw hasn't, that's the only advantage simrail has over tsw right now. Oh and route length. Personally I get bored with the same route rather quickly, and simrail doesn't have many, tsw does! Several years down the the line simrail may become a competitor but not right now.
I hope Simrail is not going to compete TSW because the last one's approach is already outdated and boring with no hope for any improvment. What's the point that TSW has a ton of cropped and half-baked routes with the same scripts and without such an important part of the railway as the dispatcher's job?
Seems this denis is pretty partial to Simrail .... To each his own in train simulation. I do not care for 24/7 operations on a compulsory server running a still limited network with only a small choice in rolling stock and schedules. Without a decent single player operation with AI trains, free roam and your own schedules/scenarios and without any words from the developers on these features, SimRail is a dead end for me. And what about the eagerness to enter the lucrative console market? A small team can only manage so many priorities without quality suffering, like is happening with DTG's TSW already.
SR is something I fire up every 6 months to see if anything major has happened. Usually I run it for an hour or two before jumping off. There’s nothing there that keeps me sticking around like TSW does. Doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s just not for me.
MSFS doesn't have an air traffic contoller mode either. Have you tried Rail Route its a great dispatcher simulator.
Simrail looks very good and for that I like it a lot, but: I am not interested in multiplayer. Heard a lot of people frustrating gameplay. For singe player a game save is badly needed, because scenarios may take more than two hours There is a steep learning curve and combined with the game save issue this makes that I never play it, waiting for better times. They tried to make the startup procedure a bit more realistic, but then you really need manuals.
I love SimRail and I almost exclusively use multiplayer. As I don't really like multiplayer games I was a bit sceptical at the beginning, but the fact that you have an actual 24h hour timetable and at the same time no run is like another because you have the human factor for dispatchers and other drivers. Even the AI dispatchers make different decisions (and not all are great, just like in reality). Also, as a driver you mostly don't have to interact with other people if you don't want and there are always servers with almost no dispatchers. There was a Driver's Only server too, but this was closed down because it was empty almost all the time. I just pick a train on the route I want to drive and just leave whenever I feel like it, so no need for a save game for me. Since you can leave anytime for short sessions when I don't know how much time I really have I prefer SimRail over TSW. Except for times shortly after an update with new trains or routes there's almost no problem to get on the route you want. I have to admit though, that the learning curve is quite steep. As a Zusi user since the first demo version in December 2000 and with quite a few hours in Maszyna and before even Mechanik EN57, SimRail wasn't quite a problem for me, but for someone who plays a train simulator for the first time or only used TS Classic/TSW standard stock up to now, the operation is quite complex and sometimes counterintuitive. There are tutorials, but even they expect users to have some general knowledge about trains and don't seem to be made for real beginners. If SimKol wants to broaden their audience, they should make the game more beginner-friendly. Still, because of the broader variety in TSW, I guess it's 70 percent TSW and 30 percent SimRail for me.
I tried Simrail’s demo back before it released and wasn’t blown away. Overall, I think TSW looks and feels better but despite that I do feel like DTG are capable of much more than they currently release. Not purchased the full game as multiplayer doesn’t interest me and more importantly, it needs UK content for me to even consider buying it. I am however curious to see how their steam simulation comes out!
DTG are capable only to stamp the current of useless and overpriced DLCs cause the current game engine has limitatons ( actually this is proper for shooters not for railway sim) and DTG have reached these limitations. In fact, TSW stuck in the 00 years of the last century and looks outdated both ideologically and technically -the need to clog your hard disk with useless addons only for the sake of layers is worth it. The impossibility of physically extending routes or merging has already been mentioned. The year is 2025, and we still don't have AI dispatcher in the railway simulator! But soon we will see routes 5 miles long for 30 euro )))) Therefore, Simrail (and not only) looks like a breath of fresh air and is quite innovative and more perspective in all aspects when we take railway into account.
You don't sound very biased, fair play. I wouldn't say my TSW addons are useless, I play them all on a regular rotation. Anyway, as I've said above. No UK routes, no purchase for Simrail from me. That is the absolute bare minimum factor to make me consider a purchase
Anyhow when you put 95%of your eggs in the MP basket... just read on the Steam forum for the game there has been a significant outage of all the servers so no one was able to get on and play the game. Exactly why it needs a decent single player game, preferably with a save feature.
