TSW6 is probably coming this September. And genuinely, though its costly. I am excited for it. I feel like though core routes can have initial problems. Its really exciting when loads of stuff gets released at the same time. I was SOOO excited for TSW5 and am delighted with it. At the end of the day, DTG is a business and do need to esrn money to run. But, they really should listen to the community more and fix ongoing problems before going onto new stuff. Thoughts?
Same as usual. If the routes and features are going to be mediocre for this title, it's another miss for me. Same with TSW5.
Unless they pull a rabbit out of the hat with some genuine much needed core fixes and QOL updates plus some quality routes, perhaps a new region or back to classic era maybe doing steam properly I find myself with little enthusiasm. Certainly not to the tune of parting with £40 or £50 for the experience.
It is a slippery slope. When TSW6 releases, it is - no offence to DTG - rather unlikely that some nagging issues present since TSW 5, 4, 3 and 2 will be resolved. Layering issues, the 90° tilted external camera, trees hanging off OHLE, stuff like that. The more versions and routes to take care of, the less care can be given to every one of them,
TSW5 has for me, when all is said and done, been a letdown. WCML South with a lost licence just before launch and performance issues on PS5 to begin with. (Which have mostly been sorted to be fair). Frankfurt-Fulda with performance issues since launch which still take my enjoyment from the route today and those blurry textures still affecting many other routes as well. It is either hit or miss at the moment. - If TSW6 is announced in a few months it will be the first title I won‘t pre order until I see how it runs.
So, my prediction for TSW6 (Or whatever name it uses). It'll have three routes A UK route a very small minority have asked for set in the current era starting and ending at bizarre places and probably have Rivet's hands all over it. A German route that'll be leaps and bounds superior to the other two routes. A US route that'll be a pale imitation of the other two routes. It'll be full of bugs and issues and items that are promised for day one will be delayed for months while DTG repeatedly state it was never promised for day one.
As long as DTG stick with the free starter pack release (as with TSW5) then I will be OK and put up with the tedious grind of downloading all my DLC yet again. I won't even charge them for my time! Any attempt by DTG to extract more money out of me (for essentially the same game I have already bought 3 times) and locking me out of updates and future DLC will fail badly. I will not pay for TSW6 and will be furious at DTG for bringing back their universally hated yearly con job. I hope the decision makers at DTG make the right choice. My mind is firmly made up. TSW5 still has problems, bugs and performance issues which have not been fixed so any repulsive attempt to charge me for TSW6 will be met with a clear reply as to where DTG can shove their below par and faulty product. I will include anatomical diagrams should there be any doubt exactly where I am referring to.
With the head burying in sand, and very selective replies treatment by DTG, because of the extent of unresolvable core issues with TSW5, I'll be giving the paid version of the next title a very wide miss. WCMLS is still in a poor state regardless of promises made, and if thats anything to judge what the treatment of the next installment will be like, then, nah not for me. (Just to note, I'm talking about UK content. Other countries routes seem to be upto scratch. And we all know the reasons without saying). Whilst I'll personally most definitely be giving it a miss, I'd advise those who are unhappy to stick to their guns rather then give in and vote with your wallet. It's the only guaranteed way of getting much needed improvements in a way that is a direct message... Far to often people will moan persistently about the games/add on issues and then continue to fund mediocre content with day 1 purchases on newly released content, find more issues, continue to moan about quality and repeat the cycle. If you want the game to improve, protest with your wallet. Don't keep investing in something you know isn't upto scratch. The head burying in the sand treatment will definitely come to and end if you stop investing money believe me. So yeah, for the first time I won't be pre ordering or forking out money on the new TSW title. I'm out and won't be investing until I see a satisfactory improvement and promises that are kept to.
Roll it back to TSW4 levels. It's never going to happen because human nature's not like that; it wants to hype up and increase things the whole time. Roll it back and keep it there until next gen consoles come out, otherwise the game's just going to go downhill forcing more and more into a struggling machine. But, that'd take a humility rarely seen in businesses
I’m gonna say what everybody else is saying, I will not be buying TSW6 at launch (I never buy stuff at launch anyway), if it’s a free starter pack, maybe so, but if previous DLC’s are broken, that otherwise work fine on TSW5, it will be a miss for me, they should instead focus on fixing bugs and unplayable and immersion breaking glitches, maybe even, Oh I don’t know, take a year off or wait until Christmas? But I swear they better not even think about locking GWE’s Remaster behind it (which given silence on that, and other DLC’s in production recently seems with everyday to be a potential possibility.)
TSW has ended up like the FIFA franchise from EA Sports. Small changes, 3 new routes and a bunch of bugs which never seem to be fixed.
At least new stuff is relatively often. Also most fixes are fixed. It's unfortunate they don't fix all but look. Its a video game. It's not going to be perfect
I'm hoping the routes for TSW6 will be at least decent, though the release of TSW6 will probably mean the optimisation fixes (Frankfurt Fulda performance is still less ideal), and improvements to WCML south will most likely be quietly forgotten by DTG.
I think TSW 6 should be where they cut off last gen once and for all. The PS4 and Xbox One had its time now it should be gone.
Oh another Tsw 6 thread how suprising... anyways count me in for deluxe as long as the german rolling stock will be on the same level as last year with ICE T. Praying for an ICE 4 or Flirt 3. For me the rolling stock of a route is more important than the route itself, at least for the core ones. An important part is if it gets a free starter pack like last year, as this one was perfect for people who passed on previous titles. If they drop Gen 8 and i really hope they do then the next part might have good chances to be one of the best Tsw versions.
TSW6 is going to be a crossroads for me. If there’s not any single item from my wish list then I am going to move my gaming budget and invest in MSFS for a year or two. I am currently just buying the new TSW DLCs for the sake of it while also growing increasingly frustrated.
As soon as the next episode of this franchise lands I'll definitely be there not only on day one slapping down money for the most expensive version of the game, [EDIT - Jan - Unnecessary]
TSW5 release as far as WCMLS, one of its core routes, was an unmitigated disaster if you take the rosy specs off and look back.
Well I won't be making the same stupid mistake I made last year, buying the deluxe edition and ending up with 3 mediocre routes and no substantial improvements to the core. I hope they offer a free " upgrade " this year. I'll take that and then cherry pick any routes and locos that appeal to me, if any show up. If they don't offer a free version, I'll just pass on TSW6. I have a very large catalog that will keep me busy through the rest of the decade.
Quite apart from the core and other issues this is an increasing problem Matt & Co need to contemplate. The game is now awash with content, much of it very similar and much of it largely unplayed. Even Shap, Mittenwald and the Dutch route have faded after a few plays in each direction. Just pushing out more of the same content and in a mediocre state at that is not going to sustain the business. That’s why I think they maybe need to take a leaf out of the SimRail playbook and start expanding existing routes into longer versions or networks. Just don’t think I could take another 15 or 20 mile electric bus stop UK route, a 50 mile flat German line or a trundly US diesel commuter line.
I would say id give it a miss, but of course if I want any new content beyond tsw5. As usual I'm forced to upgrade. Which will add more bugs and problems that I'll no choice but to live with. As for the next UK route I'm guessing it will be swanley new barn railway. Short and simple. (Without the steam trains of course)
For me depends what contents come for each version of new release, have buyed the deluxe for the current title because was very hyped for 390 and Flixtrain
Surprisingly, given that I'm totally in the dark about what DTG are releasing this year I know exactly what I'm going to do. 1. If it's a route I want or it's got rolling stock I want to drive. I'll buy it. 2. If I'm not overly excited, I'll watch the streams and see if they change my mind. 3. If I really don't like any of the TSW6 (if it's called that) content, I'll get the upgrade and wait for something for something else to come out then go back to no.1 in my purchase decision process. That's basically everyone's options there. Nobody is forcing anybody to buy anything. You can sometimes just take a break from things like I did with TSC and MSFS for much of 2024, without "quitting" or it being "the final straw" or any drama like that. I didn't buy any peanut butter at the village shop this morning. It's not my thing. Luckily the shop had other products that I like so I bought them instead.
Last year the routes didn't interest me and the preview for WCML south was....well, it was shocking so I decided I wouldn't bother purchasing any of the stuff. I downloaded the free upgrade and when I got some PS giftcards for my birthday a few days later I downloaded WCML south. I'll do the same this year, if it doesn't interest me I won't buy it. I'll get the free upgrade if there is one. My hard earned money will go elsewhere.
