…looks pretty bad! I know we have gripes with TSW, but this seems to be a pretty poor pretender! Seen at least one YouTuber get a Steam refund due to awful performance and the graphics and gameplay don’t seem great,,
Fair enough, I was just watching a YT vid and it looked pretty good to me. Will be interesting to hear about it on here from folks that have purchased...
I decided to give it try and I don't think the game play is too bad. With two cities and a scenario mode along side the timetable there's definitely more variety. However, the timings of the scenarios don't seem to be correct. I selected a 20 minute scenario that actually took around 45-50 minutes. The performance is pretty bad; there were only a few areas where the frame rate was above 30fps. I also saw some strange effects on the Oktoberfest scenario. I think this is supposed to be lights from around the city reflecting off the glass, but it seems overdone, and at some points I could barely see out the window. UPDATE: I've just changed some settings, namely, changed the version of Proton I'm using and the performance seems a lot better now, around 50-55fps
Personally, I find the game very interesting: enormous progress has been made since version 1, with lighting, save games, career mode and tutorials. I also use lossless scaling, which works very well and allows you to limit the game to 30 fps and enjoy 60 fps, for example.
Having picked it up yesterday on PS5, I have to say I am impressed overall. For me it takes a huge step forward over TSW with the career mode. It feels really immersive and like you are actually doing something a real driver would do, rather than just going from A to B and back to A. The sounds are another highlight. The sounds seem pretty spot on to me for Berlin (Not tried Hamburg yet) and a functioning announcement system that is controllable is again another huge step over TSW. Another big plus, is that in 2 hours of playing there was no game breaking bugs or crashes to the main menu, not even a hint it might which demonstrates to me a lot of time and care has gone into making sure it works as it should. Graphics wise it is not as good as what DTG produce, but for me that can be put aside for the reasons I have stated above. I hope this game gets updates and grows as it deserves too. On the metro scene DTG have a huge competitor here. Would recommend picking it up if you are interested in shorter stop routes
To be fair, this was basically my experience the last few times I tried to drive an older ICE service on one of the german routes in TSW. The flickering reflection in the window just made it impossible.
I was very tempted to pick this up tonight, but wanted to watch some actually gameplay before I made up my mind. I think this game has a lot to offer thanks to the scale of the two cities it’s representing. It will be interesting to see if Aerosoft expand on what they’ve build in future updates, paid or unpaid. I would hate to see this game become abandonware.
I played it for a few hours now, and I have to say I really like it. Especially the new HK Train for Berlin. Overall, a really solid Simulator
I got this, just because I really wanted to drive trains in Berlin. I’m really enjoying it. I already had Subway Sim 1 so got a decent discount on Steam, so I think it’s pretty good value for me. One thing I really like are the passenger announcements. They are really good and immediately reminded me of my last visit. I also like that they have simulated the platform mirrors. Scenary is pretty good close up but the distant scenery is not so good. That’s my main criticism at the moment. Overall though, happy to add it to my collection of train sims. Will definitely get a decent amount of play time from this one.
Useful to know. Will probably still pencil this in for a future sale as what with the Monthly’s to do in TSW, now being able to save SP scenarios in SimRail (albeit still in alpha), plus running tasks in Snowrunner I have rather a lot to occupy myself. Oh actually quick question, in SS2 can you save a run in progress and resume or not?
There is a save button. I haven’t had a chance to see if it works or not. I only ever start runs that I know I’ll finish. If I get a chance over the weekend, I’ll try it and report back.
It is a very good Sim. Very immersive. The announcements are amazing. Something TSW still does not have after all these years. DTG you really need to implement this soon. Career mode is more like a unlimited scenario mode , very nice, making it fun! Very happy with this Metrosimulator.
