cool, and while dtg wastes time, resources and efforts with absolutely IRRELEVANT content, the tsw core melts in bugs and chronic problems of memory leaks and blurred textures... no comments

 

I think DTG needs to worry about the amount of bugs and core issues that are plaguing the game instead of appealing to the investors and shareholders

 

£8 for some green paint - actually impressive levels of money grabbing

 

As much as I like this ,even I can’t justify paying £8 for a beeping reskin

 

Taking an idea and squeezing it for every ounce of monetary value you can gain from it.

It's honestly getting exhausting at this point when the game at its core is still broken.

Ok, so I enjoyed the previous release and I spawn Thomas in free roam often.

But a new DLC that has no new content except for Thomas in a new livery and a story for £7.99.....that's taking the Mickey.

I won't be purchasing this one.

 

Is this the new UK gameplay pack announced in the May routemap?

Dev here. Going to keep this polite and professional.

To curtail some of the gripes regarding this. I, for one, as a developer, am proud to have worked on this for many reasons. Most relevant is that I had to learn new skills in objective blue printing that can be carried forward to other projects moving forward. It has helped me streamline my workflow and the objective blue printing itself, leading to better and faster development going forward, leaving me more time to ensure my work is polished.

I can't comment on price as a developer, nor am I in any position at DTG to reveal how much time was spent on this project, but I can assure you that it wasn't time wasted. Unlike some of you are saying, this isn't 'just a reskin', as it comes with three short scenarios totalling just over an hour in gameplay, telling an overarching story that complements and adds to the existing content.

It isn't going to be for everybody, and that's fine. But please understand that I am working on the gameplay. A completely different team handles blurry textures and memory issues. If I even looked at the backend code, it would probably break, let alone if I were tasked with fixing anything.

I hope that those who buy the content find it enjoyable. For those of you who don't, that is completely your choice, and you are, as always, free to have your own opinions.

I can't watch this calmly! DTG answers questions that are relevant to society by saying that they don't have any plans for this and they are not going to change anything in the old routes. It turns out that Thomas has a priority over everything else. I tried to remain indifferent to the release of Thomas, but this announcement drove me crazy again. Will this madness ever stop?

I once abandoned the legendary Total War because the studio deviated from historical companies and went into a fantasy franchise!!!

 

At first I was like that's a kinda nice idea, free expansion for Thomas fans but then I read further down and saw it wasn't free and it costs £8.

I genuinely don't know what to say. A bit of green paint and a couple of scenarios should not be payware.

 

Learning new skills for the resumption of new steam locos coming to the game soon I hope wink wink.

 

Even god damn holiday express has more content than this pack, a t least you get 5 missions and a whole room to explore and use for screenshots compared to this thing where you only have a hour worth of gameplay and one reskin

I guess this is someone's passion project at DTG and besides which they need to make their money back on whatever it cost them for the license!

We can talk about the price not being fair but saying that content people worked on should be free is quite insulting to the devs.

Just Trains have dropped five new Livery variations for the class 87...for free.

So yeah while developers should be paid for their work, I wouldn't work for free. There are times when something is released unexpectedly for free can do a lot more good for a company than releasing a new livery and expecting people to pay.

 

Is it? Just Trains just added 5 new livery variations to the Class 87 at no additional cost. Also devs don't set the price, my message was directed at whoever is in charge of the pricing

 

But devs (usually) don't work for free. The scenarios likely are much more work than that livery.

 

This is doing nothing more than making TSW a bigger joke than it already is! Instead of getting bugs fixed, DTG waste time doing stuff like this that's outrageously overpriced when you consider other gameplay packs that have three times as much content and cost 5 quid.

 

Im surprised this is getting released based on the response from the last one. What's the point in the suggestions and feedback threads when instead of listening to the community and fixing the many bugs in the game, releasing something nobody has asked for.

 

While I have no interest in the Thomas add on I would imagine the people who like it will far exceed the noisy few on the forums etc.

A new paintjob and an hour of story content for 8 pounds seems steep. Then again I don't know how much story was there in the base Thomas expansion, so maybe it correlates somehow, no idea. But it's a pricing issue, not a content issue. Nothing against the work that Rob put in it, I think the sentiment is more towards "if you are doing Thomas stuff, do it right". Which to majority I think means "recreate Sodor, more than a few characters, and go from there". Which, I get it, did not happen right from the get go, as DTG was just looking at whether any of it will sell, but we are past that stage now.

That point aside, though - claiming that the game is broken is because the company prioritizes Thomas over optimization because a dev or two crafted some scenarios and a reskin is such a bollocks statement. There are dozens of people at DTG doing different things, and it is not indicative of a company's strategy. Chill out.

 

Now I would happily pay £8.00 for a Class 45 rework and green repaint and a 1960's timetable on Peak Forest (along with a green Class 101) but no one at DTG seems interested in making that happen.

 

It is clearly not for the audience of this forum, but I do not see a need to be so negative on a new bundle of scenarios. even before it is released. We do not know all details, but I guess this is relatively a lot of work to get the narrative correct and localized. If you don't like it is enough to vote with your feet. I see no need to start bashing DTG for all kinds of statements on the game, true or not. There is more content in development that any one of us can play, so why does it matter if a small bit of content is not for you?

 

Would rather DTG put a dev on fixing the WCML south turd route. But that was only one of the flagship TWS5 routes so why bother!!

That's quite the fancy dress you put Thomas in for his birthday KTL_Rob Powell , I love it.

The only thing from getting the Thomas Packs, despite it not being number one on my wish list (it's a solid two and a half) so far is every time something Thomas related released, some other content I'm more interested in released. And the last month's and upcoming months/weeks were and are certainly not shy of interesting releases (Mittenwald, Cardiff, Metro link F59PHR, Mildmay, upcoming Frankfurt S-Bahn, E94 Railtour Pack, JT stuff) that just appeal more to me than Thomas.

I will get the Thomas content at some point, but when, I don't know yet.
If I was 30 years younger, it might be on top of my wishlist maybe.

I'm happy the license is being used for more than just a one-off and that it will bring joy to the people who will get it.

 

One further thought and appreciating the work Rob has put into this, but surely what the fans of Thomas really want (and deserve) is an actual Isle Of Sodor inspired route to fully immerse themselves in the genre? Not a rework/scenario pack.

 

Maybe because DTG seem unwilling to correct the numerous problems with the core game?!

 

The first DLC probably sold pretty well, as will this one. Nothing the moaners on this forum can do about that.

 

I just worked on some of the scenario stuff (along with others on the team). Other teams put together different parts of the pack, which was a team effort overall. I just spoke up a bit because I wanted to clear the air that it isn't a waste of time from my perspective

I would have thought a logical expansion for Thomas and Friends would be a new character (Gordon, James, Edward?), or an Isle of Sodor route. A single reskin pack suggests a certain disregard for its clients on the part of DTG. Sorry to say it but another wasted opportunity, and whoever dreamed this up should probably find another career, because they haven’t a clue what players actually want.

 

I'm not totally for this pack it has to be said.

But the southern railway Fan boy in me does really appreciate seeing LBSC on TSW. Just be better if it was on a Terrier

 

Given how quickly this happened after the prior pack this was likely planned out before Thomas was even out. Also given how much less effort this would've taken compared to building Thomas & Diesel plus timetable and scenarios, it would've need to bomb hard to cancel something like this. I don't think this DLC"s existence really means much one way or another in regards to sales success at this point.

 

I imagine the considerable funding that would be needed to develop Sodor would depend both on the success of these and whether there's reason to believe something that size would still sell enough to be worth it. We also don't know how much of the creation and money, if any, comes from Mattel in advance, or whether DTG does everything with Mattel watching over.

I'm curious about how this structure works. I thought DLCs couldn't have DLCs, but here we have a Thomas DLC depending on a Thomas DLC depending on a route DLC.

 

Is times like this i wish the de-like button was back.

I am pretty sure the main reason for not doing this in most cases is a matter of financial viability. The more nested you make the dependencies upon other content being owned, the fewer sales you can expect.
