Been attempting to run Winter Train Part 1 on the Pipestone Pass DLC and am having serious trouble remembering how to smoothly brake once you start descending the mountain.

Whenever I use the train brake, a few seconds after I apply it I get a fairly hefty forward lurch that's bad enough to cause a drive quality penalty, and this also occurs if I release the train brake before it happens. I remember this happening when I did the first four scenarios, but I figured out a way to manage it; that was a couple of months ago and either I can't remember how I was doing it, the patch affected it, or the helpers/less snowy conditions in the other scenarios were allowing me to descend with less drama.

I've tried this with and without the dynamic brake on with roughly the same results either way. I've been attempting to maintain 15-17 mph on the downhill.

    Any assistance/tips would be appreciated.

Partial train brake with dynamic brake to change speed. I have found it is possible to add carriage brakes to help (coupling screen). Not sure this is appropriate however it can help add to the friction if the downhill movement.

I'll give that method a shot. I managed to get down to Piedmont just now by doing the opposite...dynamic on 73 percent or so (any more and I'd get wheel slip) and using the train brake to slow down as I approached the speed limit. Didn't feel "ideal"; I suspect your suggestion will be smoother.

    Many thanks.
