I mean away from the testing process these are good news. Love to hear that they are working on a fix and not just the new release of SBahn Frankfurt will profit on that its also good news for the blurry textures.
We looked into the Xbox Insider programme and the equivalent on PS and they just don't work at all for a game as big and complicated internally as this one - they're built for games that are basically not much more than the basic game itself and no dlc. Matt.
Dont know if it helps at all, but nvidias latest drivers are worse than garbage on the 12gb 3080, installed them this morning, lost 8 to 12 fps on most routes and stuttering like every 3 to 8 seconds, rolled back to my previous drivers (which are about 4 generations back after a full DDU wipe, 572.60 i beleave) so just be aware folks, its not always TSW thats the problem.
Well I mean, you are testing for Xbox on pc. And on ps5. There’s differences between them all. As I mentioned a few posts back, MSFS had the same issue with marketplace adding crashing the game on console as all the testing was not done on the actual console so errors slipped through the net. Im not being facetious here, my job is to user test software and we always have to do it in the right conditions so we can solve it properly.
We test on xbox for xbox, and ps5 for ps5. We're testing on the PC first because its easiest to make changes to, to make sure nothing "bad" has happened. Once we're happy that we haven't improved the memory by blasting the visuals, then we put it on xbox to test how the xbox is and can pull in beta testers for that. We are already testing the ps5 on the ps5 in internal builds. We just can't get external testers to assist on the PS5, doesnt mean it doesnt happen. Sorry, thought i'd said that. Matt.
Just out of curiosity Matt, while rummaging around with screen resolutIon, Lossless Scaling, Nvidia Upscaling and dreaming about a new PC or at least better GPU… Are the optimisation measures you’re looking at likely to benefit PC users too?
Using less memory is always a good thing, and potentially might have minor improvements to hitching (do less = hitch less one might argue) - the main focus is to improve the experience on the consoles of course as that's where the issue is, but many of the changes will be applicable to PC players, they just might not have as visible an impact.
Thanks Matt. In the meantime as stated elsewhere 1440p is giving a much more palatable frame rate. I gave up on Lossless scaling as I couldn’t see how to force Window Borderless into anything other than native 4K resolution. Leaving Nvidia scaling to play around with from a 1440p or even 1080p game out. Easier than convincing the wife now really is the time I need that new PC!
aw man, my PC is finally showing its age... it wont even run the new DOOM ... I am happy it can run TSW as well as it can... I am already prepared for some lower FPS for the new Frankfurt route (as I dont have the money for new PC , even this one back in 2017 took me almost 3yrs to pay off lol)
The funds not an issue here, getting the notion past the wife is. She has taken to being a bit minimalistic these days as regards hardware (from wanting to upgrade to the latest and greatest TV or BluRay player every couple of years a while back) and she is of the view, if it's not broken it doesn't need replacing. And she has already said, accidentally tipping a cup of tea in the case doesn't count! Other option is to pop a slightly better GPU in there but for practical purposes that's going to be a RTX3050 as the maximum my 450w PSU can drive. But the caveat there is probably not a massive increase in performance and it's £180 that could be spent towards the new PC.
best advice i can give you mate is stay away from the __50 series of cards there just an expensive mistake, go for __60 series as a minimum, the only thing __50 series are good for is HTPCs or servers, your phone probably has more 3d chops than them
Matt i have an idea about Frankfurt Fulda Memory, Can you make only the Vectron from DB and Railpool as Freight loco, that you Remove the different locos Like the 155, 182 or 185 from the List to Save memory
Classic example: paid streaming services, which used to be commercial free (that was the attraction), now stuffing their bandwidth with annoying ads and demanding premium prices to get back to what used to be the base experience
Amazon by far the worst as you pay for Prime then have to pay on top if you want ad free. Actually stopped watching Wheel Of Time as the two minute interruptions ruined the flow. Well that and it completely butchered the story from Robert Jordan's excellent books!
I am on PS5, and I have never had issues with TSW5, with all the routes I have. Around 14 ones. Even with the Frankfurt - Fulda. No issues arriving Frankfurt. Note: Most of the times lately, I run this route with "Free Roam" trains. Then adding another one. Mostly long freights, with the Vectron. Considering is long, and includes lot of trains of all types, like IC, ICE 3 and 1, Dostos, BR 143, etc. Even planes! Only issue I experience sometimes, is when taking pictures, ... I am expelled from the train! But I found a solution for that... .I always drive it with SIFA. Then the train will stop ahead. So its time for a short walk! But graphically everything is fine, with no blurred textures. Of course this new S-Bahn route, is larger and it has more trains. But frankly speaking, after seeing YT videos, it seems it is a bit "boring" after some driving. The BR 430 looks very nice and modern. So in my opinion... it does not worth it. I will wait for another interesting routes DTG, that be possible run with PS5.
Yes, we felt we had to pay the ( admittedly nominal ) $3.26 per month, because neither the wife nor I can bear to watch any TV that includes ads. But we weren't happy about it. Same with a couple of other streamers we have.
I‘m playing now Edinburgh Glasgow with the Full Sprinter Timetable and having also blurry textures on This Route or Same with Cathcart Circle
I am a pure 1440p gamer, on an RTX 4090. sure, I could if I wanted run stuff at 4k, but especially in a game like TSW, which uses TAA, shooting for a triple digit framerate is vastly preferable, as it minimises the ghosting.
When things are going badly, blame the Gen 8 consoles. When Gen 8 consoles are dropped and performance is still bad, let's blame Gen 9 instead. We can start blaming Gen 10 consoles now if you want.... Might as well get a head start and keep everyone's expectations low. If TSC had a console release, DTG would have a great excuse for that thing running like trash too...
It’s because of the Sprinter Timetable with more Trains, Same with the 380 Timetable on Cathcart Too much Trains for Memory
On Series X I get blurry textures on Cathcart (380 timetable), SEHS (full timetable) EGL (Sprinter timetable), ECML (full timetable), SKA (new timetable) FTF, Kaiserluten, Salzburg, Semmeringbahn, WCML. I havent bought anything since Mannheim Kaiserluten because of the blurry textures. So I have no clue about Mittenwald, Mildmay, the Dutch or Cardiff routes.
That’s completely unacceptable. It’s like a virus. Why in the memory leak effecting older routes that used to run fine? They haven’t been updated or had anything added to them have they?
The problem is with the core, the game engine, TSW5 itself. Therefor it will affect anything that runs on it, even routes which used to run perfectly. I get blurry textures on Koln - Aachen, on PS5 which is yet to receive the new timetable and so should still be in its TSW2 condition.
But surely this now becomes a legal issue? If it was only effecting newer routes you could argue that they are latest builds and more demanding. But older routes that were once fine? That’s potentially hundreds and hundreds of pounds of broken dlc!
And that is why I haven't bought anything for awhile It's time to get this figured out since I have been complaining about it since October. So now is the time I feel that I need to vote with my wallet. ECML, and SEHS it started when I installed Cargo lines Vol 1 and 2. And if I turn off those layers it works fine and Cathcart Circle has been since the 380 timetable I remove a couple of layers and I can it to work still fine. EDG just the sprinter timetable causes blurry textures. Salzburg since the OBB Taurus came out for the regular timetable and the 101 timetable is worse. WCML since the updated timetable but only the 710 seems to be affected. FTF since day one...it worked fine during preorder before all my DLC moved over. Except Frankfurt was choppy. Dresden only with the expert 101 timetable. SKA only the new timetable the older ones no problem. Mannheim Kaiserluten as soon as they added the extra AI traffic to the timetable So it seems like anytime something is added to the existing DLC it causes it. To me seems like each route is pushed to the memory limit too much with no room to spare if anything else gets added to it. At least with the way consoles work with memory. I'm not holding my breath for a fix before the September release however. From what has been said so far with updates from Matt that it is a big undertaking up there with the sound upgrade and DLC Manager is the opinion I get. What boggles the mind is that if console users make up almost 80% of players why has it taken this long to get serious abouy it 3/4 through the life cycle of the game. Especially when users like me have been complaining since October.l about it.
Kassel Würzburg was probably the First Route with blurry textures and This was in TSW 3 only with Both ICEs and Freight Trains available. the 423 Timetable on Köln has also blurry textures, but Happen on the Second Run First
What I don't get about routes like Frankfurt S-Bahn is why this was not put on hold immediately when the plans to build it were put on the table? When you plan a route you should be able to predict how much memory you are going to need on consoles. I don't get why someone said "Good idea and if it does not work on consoles we cut the timetable" instead of "should we not wait with this idea until it's actually feasible on consoles?"
It does certainly seem more creative control needed to be exercised in this instance. Not being sure what the route “Green lighting” process is of course, hard to say. Did DTG commission this route from the German team, or did they come along to Matt and say, “Hey we’ve been working on this behind the scenes for a couple of months and want to put it on the A List”? The situation certainly goes some way to explaining why DTG have steered clear of anything around Berlin and hopes of getting the Tokyo Yamanote Line at this point with trains on the core every 90 seconds let alone all the intersecting lines, well it just ain’t going to happen. Hopefully they will have something less optimistic in mind for the next German route, in particular the TSW6 effort otherwise it will be rinse and repeat. Go back to a rural main line such as Obereruhrtalbahn with two or maybe three trains an hour in each direction and less demanding as regards infrastructure size.
Yep, this is something I noticed with TSW 5. The only route that lived up to my personal expectations was a 2- to 3-train timetable. I think that's very concerning for the future in my view. With these routes, you have to have a big affinity with the route, I guess, to really enjoy them because I'm not waiting for a 2- to 3-train timetable German route. I bought into this game with the promise of Rush Hour. Seems we’re not going to get that anytime soon in a decent fashion on consoles.
Well it would mean future routes not utilising the investment made by everyone using their purchased dlcs which was what I thought was the point of the ecosystem.
Same thing for me, on my PS5. This just confirms that texture blurring is not just a problem with the console's performance. This bug wasn't there in TSW4. RoadCraf works perfectly fine on quality mode.
Moving from PS4 to PS5 was night and day performance wise IMO. I too have not experienced a lot of the issues raised in these forum's. I sometimes wonder if people come here simply to vent and often exaggerate on how bad things really are. Yes, I would love for the stuttering issue to be resolved, but I have come to accept this is something we currently have to live with. I have mentioned previously, JustTrains have proved it’s possible to develop one of the largest routes in the game with an extremely busy timetable and the PS5 handles this perfectly fine.
On PS5 Pro The textures on the Preston Carlisle are also slightly blurred, but it's not that noticeable......especially the stripes on the Mk3 and then slightly the cockpit in class87
Just to mention, about my comment above ... "I am expelled from the train!".... this only happens on the BR193, and when taking pictures! But of course it does not always behaves that way! Apart from that I am OK on PS5.
Actually I think it is. Both Xbox Series X and the PS5 have 16GB of GDDR6 shared between the CPU and GPU, which isn't a lot by today's standards. Prettymuch all PCs that can run TSW at high-ish settings have at least 16Gb of RAM and 6GB of VRAM on top of that. 16 gigs total is clearly not enough for TSW and it gets worse if running above 1080p.
So why do textures break even in DLCs where the texture bug didn't appear in TSW4? If the memory was enough in TSW4, why isn't it enough in TSW5?
It won't be because TSW4 didn't have a mod guard, didn't have as many functions in 2Dmap, etc....... it started to appear again towards the end of TSW4, after the last update bringing the suspension update, I think August 2024
