    Zwolle-Groningen
SPR (9051) Lelystad Centrum to Leeuwarden at 15:24

Some good stuff for a 16 minute run!
You catch up to the 15:21 freight out of Zwolle
I love the way ATB works, especially the way it clears restrictions before you get to the next signal. I am really enjoying this route and can only imagine how much fun it would be to have a Dutch route with the traffic density of DRA or FFA.

1D14 on ECML route with azuma (801/2).

Approximately 39 miles or so from Doncaster you start chasing double yellows. Lots of slowing down then going back to line speed. And given the speed you travel at on such a route if you aren't careful you may get the TPWS trip you.

Do you have all necessary DLCs installed? It uses cars from Spirit of Steam.

Another cracking Mildmay line freight service to recommend in the Class 66:

11.49 EWR from Bow East Flhh (Olympics) to Wembley Receptions 1-7

You are pulling a heavy aggregates manifest to Camden Road. There are sporadic adverse signals but the real fun comes when you are stopped at a red 1.3 miles from Camden Road on a steep gradient for a heavy freight load which requires quite a powerful hill start to get going. You then pass two other freight services being held at reds (including one of ones that is held for 45 minutes) so it's a busy time of day for freight in North London

    Another one for Mildmay Line

2Y64 at 11.57 in the Class 378 Stratford to Clapham Junction

Heavy traffic including the midday freight services mean you have several adverse signals to deal with including at least 2 reds outside stations - some SPAD potential

Had a good weekend on Mildmay. 2N63 Stratford to Richmond in Class 378 at 11.51 has you running behind the EWR freight I mentioned yesterday for part of the way between Highbury and Islington and Camden Road.

Looking back, the 11.49 freight and 2Y64 are pretty close to being GOAT runs, but I know these things are a matter of taste so I'll leave that up to JustWentSouth to decide!

I don't have Mildmay, but your recommended runs are tempting me ...

Also, even for routes that I have, I don't get around to all the recommended runs. So, I shouldn't be the only GOAT keeper!

I will leave it to you. I think the general rule of thumb is that a GOAT should be in the top 3% or so of the recommended runs. For TSW1-5, we have 24 GOATs out of over 700 total recommended runs.

Thanks for your entries. I appreciate that they have all the information I need for the spreadsheets and I look forward to running them!

MBTA Commuter P589 at 07:28 from Boston South to Ashland with the HSP46.

Depart Boston 30-45 seconds late and you'll have a 5 way meet just south of the station. Lots of AI along the way. Can also continue this as P590 after switching ends at Ashland and head back inbound.

If you mean "lots of signaling challenges," I would agree, because NYT's signals are totally borked: FUBAR in the old GI acronym.

2p34 on preston to carlisle. Get held at a red outside of Lancaster.

Get delayed by about one minute or so waiting on 101 service. Approximately 3 minutes late.

I think it is because at least it's not just letting you be released from red. And plenty of double yellows to chase

WCML Preston - Carlisle: haven't played this in a while but I'm on annual leave and decided to give the 87 a spin. Glad I did too - ran 1S89 which is a lovely evening run north with plenty of AI traffic (just after 20:00 out of Preston). Set it to June and got a lovely sunset over Morecambe Bay as well.

Only stops at Lancaster then fast to Carlisle, had to remember my neutral sections!

New Koln-Aachen timetable: IC 1927 to Berlin. Just another LZB auto-run, right? WRONG. You will be engaged (and stressed) from start to finish- just shows what traffic can do.

Keep your fingers supple, boys. (Can run with either BR 101)

Thanks for that nice run, solicitr! The only glitch I experienced was an invisible (to me) 500Hz magnet just outside Köln which gave me an emergency brake application. The lights ahead were green and I was still crawling at ~25kph at that point! The only way I could find to avoid it was to turn safety systems off for a few seconds.

    Nice run indeed!

IC1941 is very nice in a similar style, except it's night. Well you can get some evening light out of Aachen if you're running it in summer. Plenty of PZB action, some LZB teasing.
You're following an intermodal from the beginning, seeing it leave Aachen while loading passengers and overtaking it after Düren. LZB then lets you run at almost full speed, just hinting at another express a few kilometers ahead that'll slow you down into Köln.

That is a GOAT for me. Anyone else agree?

Any opinions on whether I should post the revamped timetable runs on the TSW3-5 sheet or the TSW1-2 sheet? I am leaning towards TSW3-5; while the scenery is not updated, the traffic and AI is TSW3-5.

Thanks, Joethefish for making this route even better! It was always one of my favorites and still is in the top 3 in kilometers driven. I very much appreciate all the effort you have put into TSW timetables. Are there any runs on this timetable that you would recommend?

    Aye, well deserved

TSW3-5 for sure, it would be fitting to treat the new SKA timetable the way you did SEHS and DRA. I don't know if the new timetable has been made available for TSW1-2 but you do need quite a lot of TSW3-5 DLCs for the layers.

Great run. It is different from the IC1941 from the TSW2 New Journey Expansion Pack. Both are excellent and worth a go!

    SKA Revamp - GAGC 48573 Antwerpen - Wackerwerk @ 07:21

Not one of the "everything is in flames" runs, but rather a normal day in freight driver's life offering all the little things that we like. You'll be transferring some empty tankers, light and short train with good brakes, PZB O, although timetabled only for 100 km/h, so you will feel the pressure of always having peak commuters bound for Köln on your heels. Don't forget front panto, it's tankers!

There are longer stretches that offer chill ride, the train is holding speed rather well (I don't use AFB), so mostly look out for few slope changes so you don't overspeed.

At one point you will start catching up with RB20 stopper offering a handful of PZB checks, but in O mode, it's not hectic. Don't slack too much though, don't forget you are the slow train here!

You have a short scheduled stop in hole in Düren Vorbahnhof to let the faster trains in front of you, if it works for you like for me, you'll have two ICEs crossing each other right in front of your cab.

Then you return to mainline with your slow train and start accumulating more faster trains behind you, so second hole it is in Lövenich!

Afterwards you need to wait a bit for a gap in mainline to cross it to the other side and finally hand over the train in Ehrenfeld Gbf to another driver.

I drove it with expert 101 through substitution mod, so I also had to deal with a broken cooling pump and loss of LZB signal once which added some pressure on top.

It's not too hectic, but a realistic amount of twists to spice up what would be a simple A-B on other routes. A pleasant drive for morning to sip your coffee along!

Very cool, but it does kinda feel like our IC should have been let past the RE in front of us at Horrem.

Now this was cool. After handing the train over to my replacement, I climbed on top of the wagon loading facility catwalk at Ehrenfeld and watched the action unfold. So! Many! Trains! It was epic.

Just ran an ICE 1 service starting at Aachen at 7:38. It was absolute chaos! I missed my departure time, firstly because the oncoming freight train did not pass me at the platform quickly enough ( all services spawn stationary and have to accelerate from 0 kmh) and then because I forgot to turn the brake key, wasting another minute. This then meant that I arrived at my first stop, Düren, with such a delay that I lost my slot and had to wait for the freight train behind me to pass, slowing me all the way to Koln! Absolute cinema!

I ran the same service, Haribo, and though I was ready to depart on time the platform signal was red until a freight coming the other way cleared the tracks I needed to cross, so I was 2-3 minutes late departing. The timetable to Düren is really tight, so there's no legit way to make up time, and thus I also was passed by the freight (not very prototypical, I suggest), resulting in arriving at Köln 15 minutes late. Still got platinum, though :D

An excellent run! The AI at Aachen, Düren, and Köln was amazing.
This is ICE 545 Aachen Hbf to Berlin Ostbahnof at 07:38 with the ICE I.

The new SKA timetable is a real treat. I would direct you to FLX 1230 departing Köln at 1347.

You will encounter LZB braking as you overtake an RE service, see tons of AI, and finish with a stabling manoeuvre.

That's true, IRL the freight would be either held at the main line signal or directed to the next available loop track. That kind of advanced decision making is not supported by TSW unfortunately. But it's fine; it made for a very entertaining run!

Having a lot of fun with the SKA update. More than any other improvement, new timetables are really breathing life into old routes.

If you’re having fun with the new timetable, I highly suggest installing community-created timetables available here: https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/mods/c3-train-sim-world/c111-timetables

These are very easy to install. But keep in mind you must also install all dependencies listed, including all livery mods, even if you only care about the timetable. It won’t work correctly otherwise.

(Apologies to console users unfortunately, I know you guys have been getting burned lately.)

I can only speak to the German content, as that is what I mostly play, but these community timetables are fantastic. I’ll make a point to suggest GOAT runs from these unless a new thread is more appropriate for that.

I think maybe a new spreadsheet is needed as there are several big timetables available for Uk routes too which will have their own top runs which are worth discussing, but since not all have access to these, best kept seperate.

Apologies for the late response, glad you guys are enjoying the timetable! :D

I would really recommend the 363 service "Köln Carriage Shunting". It requires the RSN 363 and BR 101 and has the 363 shunting a 101 set out of one of the cleaning tracks and into the siding at Hansaring depot. Lots of traffic to see around you!

It is Time for a Change!

I started the Awesome Services thread in December of 2020 when I was looking for some runs that would test and improve my PZB skills. I am amazed at what the community has done with it. We have over 700 recommended runs and I have enjoyed experiencing the game play and cataloguing the community recommendations in the spreadsheets. I am grateful to Callum B. and LeadCatcher for helping get the spreadsheets going.

However, I feel like it is time to move on. I still love TSW, but other obligations have limited my time in the game. So, after nearly 4 and half years, perhaps it is time to pass this on and get some fresh ideas and fresh leadership.

I am not sure what that change would look like; should a new thread be started or should this one continue? Regardless, I think it shouldn't be up to me. I still plan to participate and post runs I have enjoyed, particularly once I get the time to explore Frankfurt S Bahn.

Thanks for all who have participated. TSW helped get me through a very stressful time and your participation in this thread made the escape so much more enjoyable for me.

    With gratitude, JWS

    JustWentSouth, and Callum B., LeadCatcher,

thank you very much for keeping this thread going and catalogued for as long as it has. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that it has become a firmly established part of the community here on the forums.

It is always a pleasure to come on here and read about people’s experiences or use the spreadsheet to find fine runs for exploring the full potential of new routes.

Hats off to you for your hard work :)

I surely know that you need to do an extra year to master ATB now ;)
Thank you for making this wonderful thread, this was my n1 place to go before i did a timetable.

I suppose this thread can just continue when you give write access to the sheets (maybe Callum B. and LeadCatcher or another volunteer)

So, thank you for all the joy you brought!

It would be nice if DTG were to add a “community recommended” tag to the timetable services listed in the spreadsheet.

I want to thank you for taking up the standard and in keeping this community feed service alive and improving on my initial spreadsheets. It has been a great thread to follow and read about others finding enjoyment in this simulation and a breath of fresh air compared to the normal discussions. Again thanks for your dedication in keeping this alive for as long as you have.

    Jay

I don't know I'm afraid. The staggered release was not my choice.

I would be happy to volunteer to join a "committee" of a few people with write access to the spreadsheets. I don't have time to maintain them by myself but I'm sure a few of us could between us...

I found S8 (35860) Hanau Hbf to Wiesbaden Hbf at 18:46 to be a reasonably enjoyable run. I suppose it worth noting this was on PC/Steam with the full timetable and I own practically all German routes so have maximum layers.
Met a train in a curve, an unexpected stop waiting for another train making me late and not making that time up until several stops later, some spots of PZB action throughout including crawling out of a station at 40km/h under a Hp.2+Vr.2

Yep finished without issue - I don't recall even hitting a red on the way into Wiesbaden.

Thanks for the suggestion, great run besides the issue below.

Same thing happened to me although with some tricks I did manage to finish the service.
I got stuck at Wiesbaden Ost too, with another train to the track on the right. The issue was that there is a bit of a traffic jam that is deadlocked in Wiesbaden Hbf. See the spoiler for details and screenshots.

Sorry about phone taken screenshots, I couldn't take one normally for some reason.

I believe this is the train that is causing the issue in Wiesbaden Hbf:

It looks like it's trying to pull into a platform another one is trying to pull out of.

There is this other one waiting right behind it:

After deleting these 2 trains on the map, the one train the first one at Wiesbaden Hbf (35156) started moving, but got stuck again before Wiesbaden Ost, for some reason.

This probably would have cleared had I waited a bit longer, but I decided to delete this one too because I had some IRL stuff to take care of. :D
After these steps the stop signal for the train on my right at Wiesbaden Ost cleared, and after it had pulled into the station I got my green as well, completing the service.

This looks like an issue with either the dispatcher or the timetable to me, or just simply that the trains were too long so they entered a deadlock at a switch with a shorter platform at Wiesbaden Hbf. Or something, I dunno. :D

DTG Matt DTG Lukas could you please take a look at this?

UPDATE: To clarify, this was on Steam with the normal (non-reduced) timetable.
