You cannot spawn trains from portals anymore. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the ability was removed in one of the core updates.
I think you can. Certainly existing scenarios with the feature still work. I believe it was unintentionally removed with one update and subsequently reinstated. Happy to be proved wrong, though. However, spawning from portals is "no longer supported" by Dovetail and its predecessors, and has not been for many years. In other words, it should work but its use is not encouraged owing to collision risk as trains might not be separated by signals. Essentially, spawning from portals is a very old feature which really isn't needed any more, but is left there so as to not break existing scenarios that use that feature. John
ahh i see. so when your placing a.i trains in your own scenarios. You really just have to place them down beforehand and set them at a certain time to move to a portal?
That is the normal way. For a technically correct and compete reply, an AI train does not HAVE to end its journey at a portal, it could just as easily end at a station or siding, if it isn't going to obstruct anything else. But finishing at a portal is best practise. John
For QuickDrive I certainly route all AI to end at a Portal.(so they disappear). Otherwise the AI ervices could end up with multiple services backed up behind each other, trying to do things and taking up resources from the computer.
I was told you can. I haven't tried. Is it likely that scenarios using it already will still do it, but you can no longer set it in the editor? The one thing I was told is that spawning from a portal puts a junkyard of lag into your experience, so it's not advised. DTG scenarios park all the trains along the route to move when needed. Just see Sherman Hill's scenarios from Laramie. Old AP scenarios also did it, and I remember a now pulled HAA scenario where three trains start BEHIND you and later are scheduled to pass you while you sit in a siding for half an hour. I presume AP still does it.
