Think they might have been referring to the Hamburg to Lubeck aside.

This user referred to Hamburg-Lubeck, which was mentioned as the home route of the BR 218. Not to Maintalbahn.

Ah. Hamburg-Lubeck isn't bad since they expanded the timetable and made Hamburg Hbf suitably busy.

What I've noticed on this route is pzb slows you down quite a bit throught out the route why is that? Its not like there is heavy traffic on this route. And some of the timing is way off gives like 90 seconds to do 2.2 miles.

I think Maintalbahn is much better than its reputation, especially if you drive it in the 218 or 628. I just wish TSG had put a little bit more work into the 218 timetable to give us a few freight trains using the 218. No, it's not realistic, but it would be fun, and it's not like the 363 is accurate either.

Finished a run with the 642 and managed to reach Aschaffenburg only about a minute late. It helped I was running with safety systems off so could exploit the fact TSW applies signalling speed limits from the track location rather than the signal post. The schedule (22xx from Miltenburg) has some pathing time at a couple of intermediate passing loops to await trains in the opposite direction. So all in all, a nice run. The other plus for Maintalbahn is that the night lighting looks fairly decent, particularly with a bit of fog or as this Journey run spawned, with light snow falling. Very relaxing with the 642 purring away and even a bit soporific, getting close to bedtime I had to shake myself alert a couple of times!

So yes, nice route, deserves more love and as stated previously would be great to see an extension into the hills beyond Miltenberg.

It’s a nice route but the hills, trees and some of the side scenery is pretty ropey at the end of the run.

The 363 is almost exclusively a shunter. Pretty much any run on the open line that TSW uses the 363 for (on any route) should actually be a 294 or something similar.

I like this route very much, but it is too bad that DTG is refusing to add missing speed signs to the Aschaffenburg area. But this month Linke Rheinstrecke got that type of love after 2 years, so anything is possible.

Conceivably the 204, which is hefty enough for local freight -and which does run freight out of A'burg on MSB. But there is something screwed up with the 204's substitution toggle.

There are some RE trips which skip a few of the smaller stations, allowing you to get a bit of a run going with the 642.

Just ran 628 for a bit the other day. Forgot it was so much fun. Dunno about running it regularly, but it's definitely a different experience.

On 642 when would you use magnetic braking.

Presumably to avoid an incident. Trespasser or animals on the line. Signal reverting to danger in front of you. Possibly to avoid a SPAD or station run by if you misjudged the braking or suddenly encountered slippery rails in the leaf fall season. Hopefully one of our real DB drivers on here can confirm.

Very good. While I absolutely love the 218 for this route, the 628 still might be my favourite. Meanwhile, the 612 is also fun for Maintalbahn as it offers a completely different experience compared with the other DMUs.

It is a tilting diesel train. On its home route of Tharandter Rampe you get extra speed (higher limit) out of it because of the Tilt. I myself find it somewhat annoying to drive due to the way the power/brake handle works.

It also has a LOT of juice for a diesel, not quite an EMU but still pretty ballsy.

Funny, I consider it to be one of my favourites, in part because of its power and brake system. Agreed it's not that easy to learn, but once you get the hang of it, it's quite fun :)
I just wish we had more GNT-equipped routes, where the 612's tilting system could be used for a nice speed advantage.

Oh yes, it packs quite a punch. The fastest German diesel vehicle ingame yet, if I'm not mistaken :D

It's the same engine family (Cummins QSK19) and power rating (750hp) as the British 22x family and the 180, so the power train is probably 200kph (125mph) capable.

    EDIT Class 185 too

As others have mentioned, it's power/brake is a lot different than other DMUs in TSW and, in my opinion, can also feel quite sluggish at lower speeds.

Regarding the 612, is it just me or does anyone else like the flange squeal from this train, especially when playing Maintalbahn.

Absolutely! The 612's sounds in total seem very spot on to me, except for the missing door-closing-beep :)

In my opinion, a remaster of the 612 is long overdue. Perhaps we'll get something like Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn did for the 425 with a future route for the 612 as well at some point :D

Gave it a shot. The 612 is kinda...meh. The 642 was... better? Although much slower and too quiet.
I still really dig the 628. Something about how homely it looks and it's simplicity. It has that boxy "city bus" feeling like the 142 Pacer.

That's almost heresy in my book

OK, this I can understand ;)
I just love them, IRL and ingame. They have a reputation for being underpowered and a little sluggish (deservedly so), but they're also very comfy and incredibly reliable.

Could have been better if they joined in at Hanau on the FTF DLC.. Talk about DTG and missed opportunities when it comes to putting their DLCs together like a Jigsaw puzzle utilizing an under valued feature in "Route Hopping", while making their DLC feel like one continuous line! They need to be smarter in this area going forward!

Gotta jump to DTG's defense here... the vast majority (all?) services on the Maintalbahn terminate at Aschaffenburg, so the route would be split in two very different parts if it were extended to Hanau regardless.
If anything, Main-Spessart-Bahn could/should be expanded towards Hanau, if it's ever gonna be blessed with a remaster. That one lends itself much better to an expansion in terms of continuous services.
And I bet that, when they created Main-Spessart-Bahn, DTG had no idea that Frankfurt-Fulda would ever be a thing in TSW :)

Has MSB ever been remastered? It still looks okay, and with it connecting to Maintalbahn (and the other north-south route that it connects to), it a revision and some addition would be nice. I know, people beg for the all the time, but I'd be willing to pay for it for more content more services, more freight operations as discussed in the other thread, I think that's the one with moving port crane and such?) and maybe some rolling stock.
I'm not sure what was running when it was set though before 2020, but the two aren't bad routes.
(and no, the 628 won't win any races or be mistaken for luxury seating, but it's reliable and sturdy =-)

I haven't played this route a ton... I like the 642 but on this route it feels like I am constantly fighting to stay on time. I've used it more on other routes where it has services than on its home route.

I get it being Maintalbahn terminates and FTF came after, but it would be nice to close the gaps, https://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/train-sim-world-1-5_1138345#7/50.740/6.416, use "route hopping", align the TTs and be able to do a continuous service through the numerous DLCs, since word is that they have no plans for long routes in TSW, where doing this gives an impression its actually one whole DLC/large route

Much agreed - the 612 deserves more. And to think that its use is less now overall than before considering the 642 replaced all the 612 services on Bremen.

No, if anything they should extend southward from Miltenberg so there's more single-track diesel action.

Some peak time services continue onward. Even the Maintalbahn TSW timetable shows a couple that go to Hanau etc.

Agreed, MSB totally needs a remaster! But, why I'd rather see it extend towards Wurzburg, I'd like Hanau too obviously. And, on the subject of MSB, I'd rather see the remaster become a totally new route considering the original has changed significantly in real life - then that would still leave the original MSB with the older layout.

    Nope.

The timetable has always been so tight with Maintalbahn and if using PZB it's even more of a challenge remaining on time.

South to where? there are no other TSW DLCs south of Miltenberg..Im referring to utilizing route hopping and joining DLC that way so we can do continuous services across a wide variety of routes without the need to return to Home page, so dont get the comment vs the quote of mine you brought up

The 642 is poorly modelled, physics-wise. It's often mentioned in here, but DTG will never go back and fix it, despite dropping it on more and more routes as a layer. It's disheartening they feel it is in a good enough state.

...and before some smart-arse jumps in and says "but the 642 is sluggish in real life", the modelling in TSW is beyond sluggish. Acceleration drops off a cliff going through the 40-60km/h range, and after that it's downright awful. A sluggish train would have the same drop off somewhere in the 70-100km/h region, with the sluggishness in the upper region to its top speed of 120km/h. The version in TSW can barely accelerate past 80km/h on a flat and it's the reason the timetable is so hard to keep whenever it's used.

On the opposite side, the brakes are far, far too effective, with minimum application giving far too much actual deceleration, meaning fine control of speed is difficult. I rant so much about this train because I'd love for it to be modelled properly.

I hear that it almost impossible to keep on time with that train. It just a little tlc and it would be an awsome train.

Honestly, since it's still available, I still use the 612 for the Bremen to Delmenhorst services. Much easier to keep on time, and more fun

Agreed, an extension towards Wertheim would compliment the route very well! And quite a number of the services continue there anyway.

Ah ok, I overlooked that. Thanks for the reminder :)

Extending MSB to Würzburg is a great idea! And in terms of route hopping, it could be connected to KWG there.
Interesting thought... being able to travel from Koblenz to Miltenberg via route hopping at Mainz, Frankfurt, Fulda, Würzburg and Aschaffenburg. That's something for a lazy rainy afternoon :D
But I gotta disagree with the MSB remaster, I'd rather have it in its state with the old Spessart ramp, and Heigenbrücken tunnel and station. In my opinion this part adds some unique flair to the route :)

    Agreed!!!

I don't see any route getting a "total rework." Theyr'e set for a period, then moving onto "something new."
That's the DTG way. I don't entirely disagree since I know I'd be very unlikely to buy the "same route again" even if a few buildings changed. Most players want something "new" for a new route, and there's no reason to develop something that players don't want.
Given a choice, they pick "new" over even remasters or fixes.
I think Amity's suggestion for a new route would go over much better.

Huh...I thought the 642 aggressive braking was just me not being used to it.
You mean it doesn't brake so fast?

Not sure if most are aware, but the PIS on Maintalbahn is quite unique with its rather comedic messages which I've not seen elsewhere on TSW. Here's a couple examples... :D

I don't speak German, so I've literally translated these into English, so it might not sound completely accurate:

"Hello Mama! Hello Papa! Guckt ich bin I'm fis!" = "Hello Mum! Hello Dad! Look I'm FIS!"
    a8152b93-bc12-4cfd-a2ea-b4d42c859a64.jpg

"Wir wissen auch nicht wann der nachstee zug fahrt, aber lange kann es nicht davern-die schienen liegen schonmal..." = We don't know when the next train will leave, but it can't be long - the tracks are already laid..." :D:D:D

I would really really enjoy this route, but using the BR 642 PZB on console is a bit of a pain. It comes with a delay of maybe half a second or so. You can notice by the fact that the beep is delayed as well.

If you use the lever in the cab this is not the case.

Spoils the entire experience, I have to say.

I was talking about Hamburg to Lübeck and how you need it for the 218 to layer in Maintalbahn. I like Maintalbahn.

    Gear Selector
    - The BR 363 has a gear selector on the central desk, this sets the locomotive up either for shunting or long
distance use by altering the gear ratio of the hydraulic transmission
    - Long Distance will allow you to reach a top speed of 60 km/h, at the expense of some tractive effort
    - Shunting will trade speed for power, you will be limited to 30 km/h but be able to haul heavier trains
    - Naturally, the mode should be switched to Long Distance on the mainline, and in Shunting when
assembling or disassembling trains in yards
    - The train must be stationary to switch between gear modes

    (From TSW4 manual page 113)

Too bad there's not more for the 363 to do. Burned through those services pertty quick. =-/
I'm with Amity on the other thread though, a 294 would be nicer for most actual runs than the 363 on many routes. The 363 would pretty much stay inside yards, but with the 204 sorta borked it's by default been used as the "go to" for the light haul. The 294 would be a lot more appropriate.

I´m really suprised this loco is not in game yet. It´s one of the most prominent locos on German railways.
