Honestly doubt it, even with Gen 9 starting to receive cuts it doesn’t stop the fact that the game itself is poorly optimised. If DTG make a PC only route then chances are that route is extremely bad in terms of memory and that would definitely affect PC users as well. Anyways Gen 8 has received cuts for years but hasn’t been “dropped” until recently and even then dlc is still coming out for it.
Fun fact that will probably kill the game faster than anything else, console players are already mad so if this were to happen I think about 50 to 60% of the players would just quit the game
I think I'd be done with it. Especially if DTG didn't give free PC keys for whatever we owned on console. Having bought a PS5 only last year, and only for TSW4 (at the time) and specifically the ECML crashes, I would be very frustrated if consoles got scrapped.
If this is the case whit future dlcs i would just quit game because cannot afford a pc after 6 months whit PS5
I would eat my hat if they started doing PC only DLC, wasn't part of the whole point of TSW to get into the console market, which is also a significant majority of TSW's playerbase unless I'm misremembering. It would be totally shooting themselves in the foot to abandon console releases at all for some content. Last gen consoles, however, is a completely different can of worms.
They'd possibly do something like.. "This route is meant for PC and consoles, however we are having issues with the Console version so for now it'll be PC only as we try to work out issues".....and then after several months they'll drop the Console version as well. There's a reason the Koln-Aachen timetable update hasn't been released to PS5 yet.
Wonder what the appetite would be from folk if they said we are making wholesale changes to the core, meaning current routes will not work on the new game. But we have fixed all the core issues and have a stable base going forward.
Depends if they say they’re going to fix the oldest within the first few months that I would be decently okay with this
Im sure people will be disappointed for sure due to the money poured into their hobby but it happens in other sims.. With a new version though it'll take time for DLCs and if they choose to remake those already in TSW5, there will be a transition phase where you can make the most out of TSW5 before making the switch
It would be very annoying - as one of the main pros of TSW is to be able to build up a collection for layering. They would have to reintroduce the preservation team IMO to convert existing content to be compatible.
Yeah I get that. I just can’t see TSW moving forward without something drastic like that. These yearly iterations are essentially the same game with a minimal change to lighting etc. It would be annoying but if it moved the game to a new level I’d personally not be against a line in the sand so to speak
I would be for it if it had a stable game engine that was an improvement over what we have now in every department such as physics, graphics, and a real editor. I would gladly start my huge DLC collection all over!
Tbh, what is to say that core wouldn't get messed up in time. IMO, what is needed is for DTG to stop these yearly iterations with silly things like a new main menu and music, and focus on improving the stability of the core. Surely it is possible for them to do so without rendering all old DLC unusable in future versions - but I don't know much about development so it could be a problem I guess.
I dont think you need to worry. The console market is an extremely lucrative one. There's a developer who now works on TSW (originally on TSC) in the TSC server and he said a few months ago the earning opportunities was ~10x greater in TSW. If he's saying that as a small developer imagine how much dough DTG are rolling in. I think that would explain why they were so reluctant to drop Gen 8 support, and have been dragging it along with new releases just with reduced TTs. If it were to become PC exclusive, wouldn't that make it an equivalent to it's TSC counterpart? I'd assume a good chunk of PC players would choose the latter. Although the lack of TT mode would be missed you have access to a larger choice of locomotives and rolling stock.
Its that lack of TT in TSC as to why I went with TSW, plus despite the issues faced, TSW is better graphically and I don't want to go backwards..
Maybe it's finally time for the Hudson Line. An hour journey on a local train. Just what DTG loves to make.
Something from the South western so Portsmouth direct or Bournemouth - Southampton or Southampton - London. As swr is now nationalised
I am hopeful that one day RSSLO gets into making content for TSW... they have solid reputation for making routes centered around Vienna, like Wien - Bratislava-Petržalka/Hegyeshalom and such
Quick glimpse is what I meant. Can time shots when direct is out to confirm! TbH unless they announce masses of 90s content then it stays uninstalled.
GWE could be sold as a deluxe edition route. Kind of like cajon pass with TSW5 deluxe edition because that got added in the package even after being released with TSW3. edit: it was a suggestion for TSW6 if we got a a GWR route with the rolling stock or it was connected to the past route.
The deluxe edition includes routes which are in some way connected to the core route. Its possible that GWE could be in the next deluxe bundle, but then it would only be there if rolling stock from it would find use on the UK core route. Cajon Pass was there for freight and route hopping on San Bernardino. Personally i dont buy the deluxe bundle for the additional routes but for the new locos like 390 or Flixtrain last time. Edit: Just to clarify, i think the GWE remaster will be free and not locked behind the paywall deluxe bundle.
What often frustrates me with the bundles is they tend to include stuff I already own - and it's not even like you just get a spare key you can sell or give away haha
Same thing with the german routes, which are perpetually set about 2010-2018 so they can reuse the same stock for the 15th time
Thats the sad reality if you buy all dlcs in sales so you have like a 0 chance to get one in the bundle you dont have by now. A reality im a part of...
True however when SCS release a new DLC for American Truck Simulator and include it in a bundle, while one may already own 2 of the 3 in the bundle it still works out a couple of quid cheaper than buying it on its own. That said, they use Steam and I think DTG couldn't do something similar as the marketplace is spread across multiple platforms.
positive hot take - I am sure you all have noticed the uproar about Frankfurt S-Bahn and consoles/reduced timetable... now imagine DTG actually finally bringing Ebula in some shape or form, at first at least to German trains/locos, later maybe to appropriate UK trains, or even a fictional PTC for US trains... that would trigger a positive blast maybe even bigger than that... and bring a truly new level of immersion to the game... even if it wasnt full blown Ebula like in ZUSI, but a fictional usage of data the game already has, on inactive displays, in an immersive way man that would rock ... they know there is a demand for this, so I hope to see sth like that in the future (once they manage to tame present performance / UE issues, that is, I guess)
Since Köln to Frankfurt isn't possible, I'd hope we get Karlsruhe to Strasbourg. It's a great route in TSC and it would come with an ICE3neo, and the TGV would possibly layer in. The line from Karlsruhe to Strasbourg is an high-speed line with a max speed of 250km/h that is mostly in Germany and only goes to France at the Strasbourg end.
UK route: Waterloo - Basingstoke (GBR livery), Class 450 Clearly that's not going to happen, but I can wish.
That might be a contender, DTG might have access to the SWR licence now, but you'd also need a class 444 as well, and a class 701 could be added for people that buy the deluxe edition. I think the SWT era would be better but in all honesty I can't see that happening.
Dark horse contender. As it’s fairly close to DTG Towers, the Kent and East Sussex Railway. We already have the largely underused Class 33 and no one could resist a Class 14 Teddy Bear. Mark One’s reskinned into Southern Region green and they pay JT to use the RMB, also reskinned into green. They would probably have to lose the Rother Valley Brewery branding. And the additional bonus train DLC for the Deluxe pack, a surprise steam loco. Not sure what the KESR has got but maybe a small tank engine (and I don’t mean Thomas). I can dream…
It would be awesome if DTG would manage to get a blanket license for GBR though, and starting with former SWR could add lines from all over the country as the various franchises get renationalised.
