With GTA VI on the horizon and the subject of TSW performance on Gen 9 console following Frankfurt S-Bahn, I've been recently pondering if I should get a 2 TB Series X sometime in the near future?

I'm no tech expert, so I was wondering would this actually provide any better overall experience when playing TSW regarding frame rate and performance etc compared with a standard Series X (which I currently have). I'd also assume that if I did upgrade, I'd be able to transfer my existing TSW profile across too?

    Thank you.

2 terabytes for a console from the get-go is pretty good. That is however, if you're upgrading from something like an Xbox one or Xbox Series S.

Else than that, not much of a performance boost if at all. It's literally just more storage.
Also yes, you can transfer your profile.

No performance boost at all, but it’s good to have the space. I would just plug in an expansion card to achieve the same.

Performance does not change. You can get a 2TB expansion card (I use one myself) to increase internal storage.

Do be aware that the official expansion cards from Seagate and WD using MS' unique flavour of CFExpress plug only go up to 2TB, and Microsoft have previously at least once issued a firmware update that rendered some of the unofficial storage cards available out there unusable.

For backwards-compatible games from earlier XBox generations however, which do not require the you can easily connect an 8TB external SSD via USB no problem. Haven't tried larger SSD, since I don't have that kind of money, but I assume it will handle at least 12 just fine as that's the size of the HDD hooked up to my XBox One.

Obviously though, that's no good for any Gen9 game designed around having 6Gbps of read speed.

Ditto, I just invested in the bigger Seagate card a couple months ago because the TSW DLC alone was adding up. It was expensive, but I was able to sell my 1TB card on eBay to recover some of the cost.

Yeah, it was a factor in my decision to move to PC, since my TSW install is at this point pushing close to 500GB

My PC already needs an SSD bump from a 2TB to a 4TB just for the TSC and OR/MSTS content I have on it, I don't even want to think about the space TSW would take up on top of all that.

I went through my ancient monolith of a Lenovo tower a few years back and upgraded pretty much everything except the motherboard, which has me restricted from upgrading further. I could probably bump up to a stronger GPU, but my current 1650 does what I need it to do just fine. At some point in the future I'd like to build my own tower from scratch and go the AMD route, but I really don't need to until my current PC gives up on life (which after the upgrades I put into it, it better ****'ing not!)

I've also toyed with the idea of trying TSW on PC, but I realized I play TSC and TSW for two different reasons. TSW is more of my plop in the recliner and drive trains from the big screen in the living room after work game, where TSC is more my hide in my room at the computer desk and break out the Raildriver game, if that makes sense?

Honestly, if DTG today were to say that they were dropping consoles on their next yearly release (I'm not saying they will, this is purely hypothetical) I wouldn't be terribly heartbroken. I've put a pause on buying DLC until they get some of the texture and memory issues corrected (if ever), and I've got such a backlog of routes and timetables for the existing content that I'm set for a while. That's not even getting into all the other Xbox games I have in my back catalog, my stack of books to read that keeps growing, my getting back into going to the gym a couple nights a week, my just started getting into writing fan fiction, house shopping, the eventual HO/OO and Lego train layouts I'm planning once we find said house, etc. etc. etc. I think it's been at least a couple weeks since I've even touched TSW lol.

I don't think I could cope with the limited storage of a console. My pc is close to 30tb of storage with about 20% free space!

Yes that's mainly games. I have a 1tb portable hd of movies and music. A lot of these modern games just keep growing. Msfs nearly 1tb. Tsw and TSC is more than 2 tb to date. GTA v is heavily modded around 500gb. There's several other games that are heavily modded using several tb. And a load of other games.
Its mad considering 500+ SNES games use under a GB of space!

That looks neat. I think I have 7 drives. Sometimes I don't remember what's on what. Apart from the drives that are named after the game they house.

Wow, can you guys tell I am clearly not a gamer? lol

Next time I'm on my PC at home I'll share what's on my measly 2TB drive; I think aside from the train stuff, the two biggest game files I have are probably either modded Empire at War or Rimworld. Most of the other stuff is all early 00's RTS games that my PC doesn't even bat an eye at. The rest of my SSD is mostly music and movies for my personal Plex server.
