Having a yearly version of the game would be a massive plus if it weren't for having to re-download the damn game. Since I always buy deluxe, at least I don't have to wait for the new iteration + past Addons. I have good internet and it probably would take me 4 hours for a new TSW6. I could watch a cab ride from Euston to Glasgow in that time.
It’s worse on PS5, even though I only select the PS5 version, for many DLCs it downloads the PS4 ones. It’s really annoying.
I will never understand how this is an argument against a new game. If you have enough time to play games for an average of 4 hours a day, then it shouldnt be a problem to redownload the game once a year. Perhaps they found a solution for this by now. At least they told us they were looking into options. On PC this isnt an issue as it normally doesnt take much more than 1 hour, but on console even tiny updates take years to download. Thats was the situation on my Ps4 back then, so maybe this has changed since then with Gen 9.
Im xbox x and the last lot of updates took me 20 mins to download and install. When people moan slow updates they must have super slow Internet connection.
It’s all fine until you have 98 addons and bad internet meaning your “4 hours” ends up two days, that’s what happened with tsw 5 for me and hell I was a next gen console as well
To move content instead of redownloading it everytime probably is a better solution. If its possible for DTG somehow of course. To be honest 98 dlcs is a rather high amount, so i wouldnt point at DTG for it taking so long. 2 days is also extremely long amount of time, which even for 98 dlcs seems to point out a rather slow internet connection.
No sure base TSW might take 10 minutes. But the sheer amount of Addons I own might up that up to a full WCML Class 6 service :/
It's a perfectly valid reason. I'm on PC too and own all released content, it takes roughly a day and a half for a full download, so yes, it is an issue. If they allowed us to copy/paste our owned DLC content from one game folder to another on PC, that would definitely alleviate the issue on that platform. Not sure what could be done for consoles though.
It's not just the time it takes. A 'new' version of the game doesn't copy across any settings changes you've made to the previous version, so you have to remember what they were (or screenshot them) and re-apply them. Then for those of us on PC who use addons, reinstalling them all and hoping they don't break the 'new' game in some way (and then testing them individually when something inevitably doesn't work), or waiting for the addon author to update it. It literally took me several weeks of fiddling with TSW5 to get it to the same playable state as TSW4. And for those on console, the game still isn't as stable now, 9 months later, as it was then.
That is why on day one I only installed the routes I wanted to play at that moment and not all of them. After that, started the download of the rest. Meanwhile I was playing the game as usual.
I really hope we don’t have to endure this tedium again this year. Even though we are getting (finally) our fast fibre next month, it’s still subject to how fast Steam decides to push the download and of course my potato PC. It doesn’t help that Steam doesn’t allow you to untick all your DLC so it has to be done one at a time, then add back in small batches. Otherwise if you leave everything ticked, then interrupt the download it all resets back to zero. So if we are lumbered with a “new” version of TSW I sincerely hope DTG are addressing the process so that content installed in TSW5 on our hard drives comes across with smaller patch files applied as necessary to bring it up to snuff.
TSW5 absolutely eats into my space on PS5 because it downloads multiple versions of my DLCS automatically, it's the only version of TSW that does this. It's a right royal pain in the bum because I have to then try and find the duplicates and then uninstall them, and that's after several hours of downloading the DLCs.
If you use the 'manage content' option for downloading instead of downloading from store or library, you only download the required version.
You missed the point. I know you can untick them. Just there is no way or option to do it in one go. You need to untick each item individually. Unless there’s a step I missed.
On PS5, there are three things which make it a bit indecent. 1. the downloading time 2. the need to cancel PS4 downloads which are automatically triggered as well 3. the confusion it creates when installing/uninstalling content on PS5. TSW5 shows not only TSW5 add-ons but also TSW 3 and TSW 4 ones. If I had TSW 2 on my PS5, it would probably also show TSW 2 add-ons. You have to scroll all the way down to get to the current TSW 5 stuff.
With steam it doesn't matter how fast the connection is, steam is generally limited to 10mbps whereas Xbox usually dl at 30mbps or more on the same connection. Idk why dtg can't make it so it would dl the new tsw core and just update the dlc library instead of downloading the whole lot again.
With 2: if you use 'manage content' instead of store or library, it only installs the right one. With 3: this is just a bug with TSW5 that was reported on day one, but was never fixed. Has nothing to do with PS5 and it's not present on TSW 3 and TSW 4.
Indeed. There are now so many iterations of each DLC, it's becoming ridiculous. There are 4 versions of TSW2 routes, 3 versions of TSW3 routes, and so on. What on earth will all the stores look like in a few years time if we keep getting a 'new' version of the game every year? At what point do they find a solution that isn't multiple purchasable copies of each route (5 versions of TSW2 routes? 10 versions?)?
Thanks. I will try if it ever becomes relevant again. I was under the impression that, in order to "claim" your existing TSW 4 DLCs under TSW 5, you would have to download them from the PlayStation Store in order to make them available in your library. But my memory may be wrong there.
I don't know why that is happening to you; Steam (over a fiber-optic connection) routinely gives me 350-500 Mbps, and the bottleneck is writing to SSD (on a PCie bus, it only writes at about 200)
True, but the difference between my old copper wire connection and my current fiber- optic link is night and day. The former was sometimes agonizingly slow.
Not to sound like I’m coming across aggressive or anything, but do you live in the middle of nowhere? A village perhaps? That’s shocking DL speeds tbh. I used to live in a semi busy suburban area at the time and I remember I used to have 20mb with talk talk back in 2010, that was painfully slow, then slowly but surely I upgraded to super fibre. I used to download a few films all roughly 20gb each and I’d put them on DL before I went to bed, when I woke up I would still waiting for one to finish. I have an average now of 130mb in my area even though I should be getting 145mb. Luckily when I put all my content on download, it’s finished within 2 hours or less. I just have to stop the PS4 downloads, downloading too with the PS5 versions that’s the only annoying part.
I live rural yeah. I still have 1gb connection though. Steam is just slow. It always maxes out around 10mbps for me. I can download something from a fast server and reach 300mbps on the same connection.
Of course, then there're those on metered connections. I know at least one person on the forums has a data limit on downloads before incurring additional charges, and while the vast majority probably don't have this problem, I imagine a number of players do.
That's an issue that goes a lot further than only TSW. Imagine having to decide every time before watching some video if it's worth it or not...
At that point I imagine it's worth getting a plan with a little more allowance. However, since TSW's downloads are only once a year, it probably isn't worth upgrading your plan for another 100GB on top of what you normally use if your upgrade is solely for TSW. I know there then comes the argument of having bigger issues if TSW causes financial difficulty, but costs are costs and while margins are seldom so fine that you have to choose between food and trains, it is still a cost that has to be considered.
That’s awful man. There’s got to be a solution to your problem. I don’t know if the connection works like a VPN, maybe try changing your region in the Steam settings? It doesn’t make sense if you’re able to achieve DL speed of 300mb. No wonder you don’t want a new game each, it would be like waiting till Christmas for everything to DL
Steam downloads run at the max speed of my line ~55Mbps. I've been promised FTTH in a month or two ...
Don't understand it. I've tried different servers on steam, other downloads are fast, got a super fast nvme drive. Perhaps I'm on steams hit list. Server over use from downloading tsw every year
I've tried changing the DL server. I will try a region change. Sometimes I do put off buying games due to the long wait.
