I wonder when TSW6 releases, if we already have the .pak file for Caltrain on PC, can we port it over to TSW6. It it doesn't happen from DTG, hopefully someone from the modding community can make this happen. I definitely wish the preservation crew was still around
For the sake of the future of the game I really hope that doesn't happen unless agreed by Caltrain, as not only is that likely to alienate Caltrain from ever re-entering into licensing discussions, it could very easily dissuade other companies from granting licenses as well.
Yes, I'd much rather DTG did the porting. I don't see a problem as no future sales will happen. It's just a way for players who've already bought and paid for the route and rolling stock to continue enjoying their purchase. So it costs them a little money, more than repaid in goodwill.
and what about us who pay for the content? (I have the 3 caltrain dlcs) are we screwed? and why? because dtg won't stop releasing a "new" tsw every year... so there has to be a way to let those who bought the content use it whenever they want
There is keep, TSW5 (or earlier) installed with only the required DLC. No one is taking TSW5 off you and no one is forcing you to delete it
You bought Pen Corr as a (probably) TSW2 route. You did not buy it again, and DTG have been nice enough to upgrade it to 3, 4, and 5 for free. Nothing obligates them to keep making new versions of it.
Must admit I got a good chuckle at the above comments, are we really at this level of white knighting for DTG? I think it’s bad enough that the borderline pointless sequential releases are coming every 12 months, but DTG will be crossing new lines when they start making a a habit of leaving content behind. This isn’t FIFA or CoD.
And unless I’ve missed something, at this stage the loss is purely unconfirmed, TSW6 is not announced and this whole thing is purely a hypothetical scenario being raged about. TSW6 may never come and even if it did Caltrain may already have agreed whilst new copies can’t be sold existing owners can have the content ported over. Let’s hold back the pitchforks at this point in time hey?
if you are referring to the three dlcs that remained in tsw2020 (sw1000r, gp40-2 and nec: new-york, which I also have) it was due to technical limitations at the time to carry out the port, in other words, they are two completely different situations
In ten years time... how many versions of tsw will need to be installed to use the content I payed for? Have dtg directly answered the question about this dlc being brought forward to tsw6 or not? I know it's been asked more than once. Or will we have to buy tsw6 to find out.
As they havent acknowledged TSW6 is even a thing they can hardly confirm or deny what will happen to PC when/if it releases.
Nothing " nice " about it. Just good customer service motivated by the outcry that caused DTG to port routes and locos into TSW2 when they initially planned not to. DTG are not particularly altruistic but it makes good business sense to make all current dlc available in the next iteration.
Classic propaganda strategy: Complain about white knighting to divert attention from the vigorous black knighting.
