It's also very useful if the British Transport Police are waiting at the next station to escort someone off the train. Open one set of doors at the front to let them on and find their target. Previously you'd have coppers with all their gear trying to squeeze through the cab door which wasn't ideal.

a question - does this train have a rollback thing going? I have noticed that even when I have power controller on either B0 or Coast, it doesnt roll back or start moving forward if on gradient (rollback isolation on the left screen isnt clickable lol)

Hi, sorry havent looked at this thread for ages!

ASDO is indeed Automatic Selective Door Opening. Each station has a balise (track beacon) pictured below on approach.... which the train takes information from via a reciever underneath. It contains information on what side the doors should release and also how many doorsets should open (if the platform is short). The stop board at that station will have an aditional board (for example SDO14) To indicate only 14 sets of doors should open here. Any doors that should be locked out are locked out automaticly by the system. If the driver gives an incorrect side release or train does not pick up the balise (which can happen sometimes as tracks get very very filthy) the doors wont open, and you are presented with an ASDO overide screen, whereby you need to confirm the pattern before giving a release again and report. A train cannot enter service with ASDO off, and if defective enroute has to be taken out of service. Hope this helps!

Yes these trains do have automatic rollback protection and its very touchy! Can be rather embarrasing during coupling when you are trying to creep up to the other unit and train slams the brakes on over and over as it "believes" you are a rolling away :| You can theoreticly leave the TBC in coast and the train wont go anywhere. Useful for hill starts though. Every other unit Ive driven will happilly roll away with or without you in it.

Hi, thank you very much for your sharing your knowledge with us regarding the Class 710 and it's various operations, I found them very interesting and informative!

    A few questions of mine:
    - Is there any way of/ how do you tell the reading of the brake cylinder pressure; It doesn't seem there is a gauge in the cab telling you.
    - When coupling to another unit, is there an option on the TCMS (if I've got that correct), whereby the holding brake Is isolated so as to draw up to the second unit you are coupling up to with ease?
    - Is the wiper speed faster in real life than in game? I find it a lot slower than i think it’s supposed to be, same with the Class 395.

    Thanks!

    Hi!

    1. Alstom decided the was no need for such a gauge as the train uses regenerative braking nearly all the time, so for most of the time the is no or very little pressure in the brake cylinder when braking. Electrostars were the same (contrary to some sims) A step 2 application for example would initially show the corresponding cylinder pressure (maybe 2.6 bar roughly) and bleed off to near 0 bar immediatley as the regen took over the work. Under 5mph the brakes blend back to normal disc brakes and the cylinder would refill to the expected pressure. Except when under wheelslide the regen cuts out immediatley and uses only the discs. Its just not something you need to see anymore on modern trains.

    2. There is a rollback protection inhibit in the TCMS yes but we are not permited to operate it unless intructed to in a unit fault scenario.

    3. Slow and intermittent are spot on, fast is a tiny bit quicker in real life but not much. The wipers are actually one my least favourite parts of the train :D Because of its size common for sections of the blade not to make contact in areas meaning nice streaks!

    I looked briefly, didn't think I saw a guess.
Is it to protect your (the driver's) body in a collision?
Might make for less aggressive hard surfaces to be thrown into... which happens at about the speed the vehicle is traveling during the impact.
I wouldn't want to know what 10 mph feels like, let alone anything like 60 or above.

It did take a lot of scrolling to rediscover the answers - certainly not something I would expect anyone to find without using too much effort.
