Anyone know which trains are able to couple to and pull the 350 or 801 other than another 350 and 801 respectively please? The ROG 37 just doesn't connect for some reason. Thanks
You can get the 37/7 to couple to other trains like the 700 and 710 (and 390 iirc) but it won't work electrically so you'll need to manually drop the brakes and then have fun trying to stop.
Plenty of barrier wagons required (some mk1/2s do the trick), as per reality, to get a good level of braking force! But it is good fun dragging non-375/377/387 units along in the way you describe. In the 390 cab however there is a switch which has been modelled and would’ve been used when the fleet was hauled by Class 57s on a regular basis. It controls the brakes / ETS combination in reality, and is somewhere closer to the cab door but still on the side with the other switches from memory. Have you / any user managed to get this to work? As theoretically, there should be an air pipe between the ROG 37 and the 390 but I’m just not sure if the switch in the 390 to control the brakes / ETS actually does anything, or if I’ll need to stick with my barrier wagons!
I was not aware of this switch but now am very curious, I'm not too familiar with how things work in the UK irl on the railways and so just guessed but if I can ask about the Mk1s or Mk2s, where would they be placed for helping with braking? Apologies if this is a dumb one. I'll give this a go and report back.
It’s not perfect, as you still need the 37 next to the 390 as it’s the only thing that can couple to it. In reality, you’d have just the one loco at the front (and no loco in the middle of the consist), and the 390 would be coupled to a coach fitted with the correct coupler, a barrier wagon / translator. But as we don’t have those in the game, you need to run with the 37 in the middle of the consist. But then the other end (let’s say the front) of the 37 can attach to effectively any compatible coach / wagon / loco with a hook coupler. So an example might be Class 66 + 4 Mk1 coaches + 37 + 390. The brakes will run between whatever loco + whatever wagons / coaches you choose as far as the 37, and then the 390 will run as a ‘swinger’ without any brakes (unless we can get the aforementioned brake switch in the 390 to do anything). Basically more ‘stuff’ you have in the train between the driving cab and the 37+390, the more you’ll be able to control the consist. I mean, even take it international and stick a Vectron on the front! I quite enjoy mixing UK / German stock on German routes in free roam
