TSW5 has been added to the games catalogue for PS+ Extra and Premium subscribers from June 17th. https://blog.playstation.com/2025/0...ive-nights-at-freddys-help-wanted-2-and-more/
A good way to attract new players to the franchise whilst sucking them into forking out for TSW6 a month later.
Interesting that it’s coming (presumably) so late into TSW 5’s life cycle. Wonder if this suggests that this year may be a Rush Hour/TSW2020 situation rather than TSW 6. Not likely but we can dream…
If they have any empathy at all with the feedback last year, let's hope so. If only to avoid the pain of reinstalling all that DLC.
No, just that it's available to those who have a Playstation plus subscription. Once they download it they'll have it for as long as they have Playstation plus....or until DTG/Sony remove it from there.
Maybe I have got the logic wrong but surely this points at TSW6 going back to the paid update status unlike the free starter pack for loyal customers model that TSW5 was released under. Giving TSW5 away for PS+ and Premium would also give users access to a TSW6 free starter pack if it is actually released plus any routes included in whatever TSW5 package is included. Maybe DTG are being magnanimous having had good financial returns from changing their yearly incrementing product number farce from being a paywall for further updates to allowing loyal customers to remain with the game and not have to pay for basically the same fairly buggy core over and over. I hope I am WRONG and TSW6 arrives with a free starter pack (like TSW5) but my gut feeling is that the shortsighted bean counters are returning to the lure of instant gratification and quick money rather than valuing customer loyalty and on going long term DLC purchases from people still remaining active with the game. I left TSW for almost 3 years because of the yearly update wall and will have no hesitation in boycotting this game permanently if that despicable marketing hustle returns.
I believe this is a way to try and attract more people into the genre. TSW5 being available to play via extra and premium PS+ subscriptions is the same as MS do with XBLive. It won't be available to play for standard subscribers. Whilst it may be free to play whilst you have a subscription, if your membership lapses, you can't play it. You don't own any of the games obtained or played through the PS+ subscription, you only lease/rent a licence to play said title. Also remember that games can be taken out of the catalogue for subscribers at any time because both Sony and MS rotate their catalogue of games in and out of the subscriptions.
