In the beautiful LA to SAN BERNARDINO line I mostly miss timetable and reach stations late and that is due to braking early and sometimes i use the brakes later than usual which make me miss stations. I need hints please
I don't know what real-life procedure is, but I like to brake from 79mph about a mile out at between 20-30%, adjusting as I go. by 0.6 miles, I should be around 60mph. Try that and see. I still find myself coasting into platforms and using full service on occasion so it's not a perfect formula, but it should help.
^This. To amplify I use mental checkpoints to adjust my braking curve: 60 at a half-mile, 40 at 500 yards, 25 at the start of the platform. Adjust for uphill/downhill.
LA -> University and SB -> Rialto. I'm always late on these stretches. But on the rest of the route the problem is opposite - I'm always way ahead of schedule.
A very rough rule of thumb I use for the last half mile is what I call the rule of 10. Yards count down should approx. equal speed in mph x 10. This should be achievable with 50% brake applied, and so you have plenty of leeway for fine adjustment.
